Every time she closed her eyes, she saw different versions of Damian.

Cold Damian at the gala.

Quiet Damian in the stairwell.

Broken Damian outside the building.

And somehow those versions of him kept colliding painfully inside her chest.

Amelia froze. The escape passage stretched ahead of her, but her mind remained trapped in the doorway behind them. The face beneath the Curator's hood...She knew it.She had seen it before. Not once. Not twice.Countless times. At the estate.Walking through the halls.Speaking with the officers.Standing near the security room.Amelia's breathing became uneven.Damian noticed immediately."Amelia?"She didn't answer."Amelia, we have to go."She finally looked at him."I know who it is."Everyone stopped.Bennett turned."Who?""The Curator."Noah's expression changed."Who?"Amelia swallowed."I saw their face."Bennett stepped closer."Tell me."She looked back toward the passage."It's someone from the estate."Nathan's eyes narrowed."One of the staff?""I don't know.""Think."Amelia closed her eyes. The image returned. The hood slipping. The eyes. The scar near the eyebrow. The familiar expression. Then it came to her."The head of security."Silence.Nathan's face hardened."

Darkness swallowed the room.Amelia felt Damian's hand close around hers.Noah immediately stepped in front of her.Bennett raised his weapon."Nobody move."A soft laugh came from somewhere near the doorway."You still think a weapon will save you, Detective?"Bennett's eyes narrowed."Show yourself."A small light flickered on.Then another. Finally, the emergency lights illuminated the room. The Curator stood at the far end.No porcelain mask this time.Only a black hood concealed most of the face.Amelia stared."Who are you?"The figure tilted their head."You already know me.""No.""You've seen me."Amelia's heart began pounding."Where?"The Curator smiled."That's what Samuel wanted you to discover."---Noah tightened his grip on Samuel's letter."You won't get this."The Curator's attention shifted toward him."You're still protecting her."Noah's expression hardened."She's my sister.""Exactly."The Curator took one step forward."And that is why she must never read that

  • THE CEO LEFT ME.... THEN CAME BACK BEGGING   CHAPTER 85: THE SECOND CHILD

Smoke spread rapidly through the Real Archive. The emergency alarms screamed overhead.Heavy steel doors continued closing one after another, sealing sections of the underground chamber."Move!" Bennett shouted.Everyone rushed toward the nearest exit.Damian kept one arm around Amelia, shielding her from the smoke."Stay close to me.""I'm fine.""You don't have to prove that."Amelia coughed.Behind them, flames crawled across rows of ancient documents.Daniel turned back."We can't let the Archive burn!"Bennett grabbed his arm."Your life comes first.""Those records are twenty-two years of evidence!""And if you die in here, they mean nothing!"Daniel reluctantly followed.---Ethan reached the security panel near the exit."The doors are locked."Nathan coughed through the smoke."Can you override them?""I'm trying."His fingers moved rapidly across the controls."Come on..."A red warning flashed.> MANUAL OVERRIDE REQUIRED.Ethan frowned."Someone designed this to trap everyo

The ancient altar continued to slide aside.Stone scraped against stone, the sound echoing through the abandoned chapel.Cold air drifted upward from the darkness below. The masked operative stood at the top of the hidden staircase, waiting.A moment later, a calm voice came through the earpiece."The entrance?""Open.""The key?""Recovered."A brief silence followed. Then the Curator spoke."Go down."The operative switched on a flashlight and descended into the darkness. The altar slowly slid back into place above them. The chapel was silent once again.---Several corridors away, Detective Bennett's team raced through the estate.Nathan checked the floor."Fresh footprints.""They came this way."Alexander stopped suddenly."The chapel."Daniel nodded."They're heading for the real Archive."Bennett frowned."How far?""Less than a minute."Everyone quickened their pace.Amelia struggled to keep up.Damian noticed immediately."Slow down.""No.""You shouldn't be running.""I won'

The tunnel echoed with hurried footsteps.Detective Bennett led the way, his flashlight cutting through the darkness as the group raced toward the hidden exit beneath the greenhouse. No one spoke. The Curator's final message lingered in everyone's mind.> I've already sent someone to collect it.Amelia instinctively placed a hand over her stomach. The baby shifted gently.Damian immediately slowed his pace to stay beside her."You don't have to run."She shook her head."I do."He looked at her with concern."Amelia—""If that box is what they're after...""...then whatever Samuel hid has been in my bedroom this entire time."Damian nodded grimly."And we can't let them get it."---They emerged through the concealed entrance inside the abandoned greenhouse.Morning light spilled across the cracked glass roof.Outside, several police vehicles had already arrived.Officers rushed toward Detective Bennett."Sir!"Bennett turned."Report.""The estate has gone into complete lockdown."Na

The silence was suffocating. No one moved. The masked figure slowly lowered the disguise to the floor.Amelia's eyes widened."...No."Nathan took an involuntary step back."It can't be."Detective Bennett's jaw clenched."I knew something wasn't adding up."Standing before them was the cybercrime examiner who had assisted the investigation from the beginning. The same man who had recovered Samuel's files. The same man who had restored Victor Hale's photograph. The same man who had traced the mysterious transmissions. He smiled calmly."I was wondering how long it would take."Damian instinctively stepped in front of Amelia."You."The examiner inclined his head."Mr. Vale.""You've been manipulating the investigation.""I've been guiding it."Nathan tightened his grip on his weapon."You're under arrest."The man chuckled."On what evidence?""You've kidnapped Sophie."The smile disappeared."I didn't kidnap her."Everyone looked at Sophie. The examiner spread his hands."I rescued h
