Gabriel walked out of the bathroom, and dressed for work. It was Friday morning, and though he had a meeting later that day, he decided to go in late. He wanted to make sure Isla was fine before leaving the house. After what happened the previous night, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that she was still angry with him.

He thought of making her breakfast.

Could he cook? Of course not. But he still wanted to try. Maybe fry some eggs, make coffee, or at least toast bread. Anything to make her smile again.

He opened his door, and froze.

His heart nearly stopped.

There, on the cold marble floor of the hallway, lay Isla—motionless, pale, and weak.

“Isla?” His voice trembled as the word left his lips. It felt like a question. A desperate question.

In an instant, he dropped to his knees. His heart pounded painfully inside his chest as he lifted her head onto his lap. Her skin was cold, her face too pale for his comfort.

“Isla! Please, open your eyes,” he pleaded, panic thick in his

“Chris, cancel all my meetings until further notice,” Gabriel instructed over the phone, his tone calm but firm. “Another thing—” he added, pausing briefly as he turned toward the window, “I won’t be around for a while. A week, maybe. Just handle things over there. Alright, bye for now.” He ended the call and let out a soft sigh, staring out at the city below. It had been three days since he started taking care of Isla himself. Even though she still suffered from bouts of morning sickness, she was clearly getting better. Maybe it was because he never left her side, or maybe because he made sure she ate properly. Whatever the reason might be, she no longer looked pale or weak. She looked radiant now and her skin glowing, her face brighter. She looked more alive now. Today was a special day. He had promised that they would finally move into their new house. Despite her occasional mood swings and quiet attitude toward him, Isla was genuinely excited. Her heart fluttered with joy

“Since you’re both here now,” Gabriel began, his voice calm but eager, “I think it would be better if I just say it.” All eyes turned to him. There was something different about Gabriel Wyndham today. The man who was known for his strict, commanding presence now looked softer—almost boyishly excited. His usual sternness had given way to warmth, and a faint smile tugged at his lips. “So…” he said, pausing a little to amuse his audience, “we have a new house now.” He said it playfully, expecting everyone to share in his excitement. But instead of cheers, he was met with puzzled looks. Even Isla tilted her head slightly, not understanding what he meant. “What exactly are you saying, Gabriel?” Diana asked, clearly confused. “What other house are you talking about?” Realizing his lighthearted approach didn’t quite land, Gabriel let out a small laugh, rubbed his palms together, and settled back into the sofa. His face grew serious again—but his tone remained gentle. “I bought a hous

Magdalene smiled warmly at the Ainsworths when they came in. The lights from the hallway shone through the door and lit up the lovely entryway. Diana Ainsworth had a lovely bouquet of lilies and baby's breath in her hands. She said, "Good morning," to Magdalene, and the air was filled with a sweet smell. "Please come in, Mr. and Mrs. Ainsworth," Magdalene said as she stepped aside. "Mr. Wyndham is waiting for you." "Oh, thank you, dear," Diana said, her voice full of joy. "I'm so happy to be here this morning.Take this." She handed the bouquet to Magdalene, who carefully took it and smiled. Charles and Diana walked deeper into the house, their faces lit up with happiness. They were so happy they could barely contain it. Gabriel met them in the middle of the living room. He looked calm but pleased. He greeted Charles by shaking his hand. Isla was sitting quietly by the window on a soft cream sofa with her hands folded in her lap. She was worried about her parents coming to see h

Gabriel stayed outside her door for over an hour. He knocked. He pleaded. He waited in silence, hoping she would open the door, just once. But she never did. Eventually, exhaustion and disappointment weighed him down. He leaned his forehead against the wall for a moment, then turned and walked back to his room. The moment he entered, the emptiness hit him like a wave. The silence in the room was unbearable. He felt frustrated and small—like a man who had lost everything that truly mattered. He climbed into bed and lay there staring at the ceiling, unable to sleep. His chest tightened as the truth struck him; he hadn’t slept peacefully for days, and now he understood why. Isla had become his calm, his peace, and his shield. How foolish he had been to ask her to sleep in a separate room. “Her bedroom,” he corrected himself bitterly. Everything that went wrong was his fault. Every tear she shed, every ounce of pain in her voice, every cold look from her, he deserved them all. Sti

So, it wasn’t Alfred after all. Gabriel had investigated the truth himself. Exactly what she had wanted from him. But did that make her feel any better? No. It didn’t. The hurt was still there. And it was deep and with pains. He shouldn’t have doubted her. He should have trusted her the same way she trusted him, even when she had every reason not to. She sighed softly, her chest tightening as she thought about everything. These wounds would take time to heal. Still, the more she thought about it, the more irritated she became—and she couldn’t even explain why. Without replying, she brushed past him and reached for the porcelain plates. Before she could pick them up, Gabriel’s hand gently covered hers and took the plates away. “I told you before,” he said in a quiet tone, “you need to rest.” Isla didn’t argue. She couldn’t. She simply stood there and watched him as he set the plates down on the counter. He began to serve the food carefully, every movement quiet and deliberate.
