The decision to step down came three days after signing the divorce papers.

I sat in my office staring at financial reports that made no sense anymore. Lawson Corporation had pulled every contract. Forty percent of our revenue gone overnight. The board was in emergency sessions. Investors were panicking. My phone rang constantly with people demanding explanations I could not give.

Jennifer knocked on my door, walked in without waiting for permission. "The board wants to meet. Now."

"Tell them no."

"David, we just lost our biggest partner. The stock is tanking. You cannot just ignore this."

"I am not ignoring it. I am accepting it." I closed the laptop, looked at my CFO. "My ex-wife's father just pulled every contract we had with Lawson subsidiaries. This is personal. And it is deserved."

"Deserved? We have employees who depend on this company. Families who need these jobs. You think they deserve to suffer because of your divorce?"
