“Can you at least smile?! It is your birthday for goddess sake!”
“I am aware it's my birthday,” I mutter back at Mark. “Which is why I am kind of pissed that you would do this. You know how I feel about parties!”
“Oh, come on!” He retorts. “What kind of future Alpha hates socializing like this?”
“Me. This kind of future Alpha. I can't believe you even planned it in a club. And invited other packs. What the hell, Mark?!”
“You should be grateful,” he mutters as we push into the club through the VIP entrance. “This su an opportunity for you to mix with people without the formalities of the other events. And besides, this is your last birthday before you find your mate. Don't you want to live a little? I mean… you are still a virgin!” He whispers that last bit.
“You say that like it's a bad thing,” I mutter.
“Not a bad thing, just a weird one. You are weird.”
“And you are annoying.”
“The birthday boy is here!!!!” The shout goes out the moment I walk into the place and soon after I am surrounded by different faces, all of them touching and patting me in the back, telling me congratulations and birthday wishes.
It's annoying.
I put on a fake smile as I nod my thanks before making my way to one of the booths.
“Could you be any colder?” Mark asks as he takes a seat beside me
“As a matter of fact, yes, I can.”
“Can you at least try to have fun? Socialize. The guys really put a lot of effort into this.”
I stare at him for a few seconds before I nod.
“Fine. I suppose I can-”
“What? You can what?”
“Who is that?”
“Who is who?” he asks as he strings around to find what had taken my attention.
“The girl with Tammy. Who is she?”
“Oh her,” he says as he leans back. “I think her name is Lisa or something. She tends to hang out with Tammy a lot.”
“She is not in our pack,” I say.
“No, clearly not. Look at the way she is dressed. So… bland. Girls in our pack like to show a lot more skin.”
His words make me take notice of her clothes.
A long oversized sweater that somehow fits her perfectly and baggy jeans to hide all curves.
And from the way she is uncomfortably looking around, this is clearly not her scene either.
“I am going to talk to her,” I say as I get to my feet.
“What?! Why?”
“You are the one who wanted me to socialize, I am going to do that now.”
“With her?!”
“Hmm.”
“Travis… Travis!”
I ignore his calls as I cut a path through the crowd, making my way towards the girl as she tries to get out of Tammy's grip.
“Nah… I am going to-oof!”
She runs straight into me and almost bounces back from the force.
I watch as she looks up at me with an annoyed pout on her lips that just makes me want to bite it and then notice when the shock takes over.
She recognizes me.
Strange.
“Hello,” I greet with a smile.
“Hi,” she gasps and somehow I am able to hear it even in the noise.
“I am Travis.”
“Louisa.”
“Oh, my goddess! It's Travis!”
The exclamation ahs us both looking at Tammy who looks like she has seen a god
“Hello, Tammy.”
“Oh, my goddess! You know my name! He knows my name, Lou!’ she squeals as she tugs on her friend's arm.
Louisa rolls her eyes at her antics before shrugging her off
“Of course I know your name. You are part of my pack aren't you?”
“Well, yeah but still … you know my name. Hi!! And uh… happy birthday.”
“Thank you. And thank you too for coming to my party,” I say as I look back at Louisa who just nods with a pretty blush.
“Hmm.”
From the corner of my eyes I see Tammy giving us a strange look before she clears her throat.
“I am going to get some drink,” she calls. “You guys have fun.”
We both watch as she leaves and I give Louisa a side look.
“She is not coming back is she?”
“Nah, she is not,” she replies with a smile.
“Would you like to dance?” I ask as I turn to her.
“Um… no? I am just… clubs aren't really my thing.”
“And yet you came to one.”
“It was Tammy. She is very persistent.”
“Hmm, I understand. I have a friend just like that. Still, what about we go somewhere quiet then?”
“It's your birthday… what would you want to leave?”
“Well, parties are not my scene either. Come on.”
I take her hand and lead her up the stairs to one of the closed and secluded booths in the club.
We would be able to see outside but no one can see in.
“Uh…” I turn to see her standing by the door looking around with an uncomfortable look on her face and I immediately realize how this looks.
“Shit,” I curse under my breath and she looks over at me in question. “I am sorry,” I tell her. “I don't realize how this would look. I don't mean to… I wouldn't… I just…”
“It's fine,” she says with a smile as she walks over and takes a seat. “It's okay.”
“I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable,” I tell her as I take a seat.
“I know,” she responds. “And strangely enough, I am not uncomfortable.”
“Strangely?”
“Yeah. You are surprisingly easy to talk to. To be around with. That's a strange thing for me.”
“Likewise,” I say as I stare Into her hazel eyes -right now, they are the color of a cloudy sky. It is beautiful. “I am never this familiar with strangers.”
“Hmm,” she hums as she stares at me in a daze.
For a long second, we just stay like that, star
ing at each other before a question filters through my mind.
A question I can't stop myself from asking.
“Louisa…”
“Hmm?”
“Can… Can I … kiss you?”
LOUISA “You don't know what you are doing…” he begins. “I won't let you.”“I, Louisa Stone…”“SHUT UP!”“...a rogue by choice,” I continue, ignoring his screams.“I SAID SHUT UP GIRL! DO YOU HEAR ME!” he snarls as he launches himself at me but Travis is faster. He grabs him by the arms and locks them behind his back.“Continue,” Travis tells me.“...stand here, before the goddess and witnesses. I call on all to witness my choice, swine never to regret. I remove my ties to the Roarke Family. I remove their authority over me. As of today, I stand apart from them. Never to acknowledge them as blood.”“Lou,” my mother whines as a blue line glows between her, me, and my dad. It glows and glows, so bright that we all have to shield our eyes from it and then… it snaps. It is done.“YOU FUCKING BITCH!” My father roars as he pushes off Travis in adrenaline and rushes at me, slamming me against the wall, his claws scratching at my neck but he is not there for long.Travis snatches him by the
LOUISA “Breathe, Lou,” I whisper to myself. “Just breathe. You can handle this. You have handled worse confrontations. This is nothing.” My parents arrived less than an hour ago and had been shown into a room to wait for me. Tammy had shown up with two caretakers and had even stayed behind to watch over them while another wolf had led me here. Except now… I have been standing in front of the door for more than five minutes and I just can't seem to get my legs to move. “Come on, Lou,” I whisper again, shaking my fingers out. “Just move.” But I don't. I can't. I thought I could handle this. That I could handle seeing them again, but I can't. All of a sudden, I am that girl again. Hiding from her father. Scared. Alone And then… a hand slips into mine. Warm. Strong. Confident. I lift my head to see Travis standing by my side, his eyes on mine, firm. Warm. “You are not alone you know?” He says quietly. “At least… you don't have to be. I am right here with you, if you
LOUISA “So?” Tammy mutters as we head back to the cottage. “How are we going to go about this?”“We?” I ask, surprised as I turn to look at her. “I might not agree with your decisions but that doesn't mean I am going to abandon you. That is your forte.”Ouch. She is still pissed. Still, I can't be mad though. She is not wrong.“I don't know,” I say in answer to her question. “There are so many things going on in my head right now. I know I need a plan to separate her from my father… but I don't know how to go about it. And I still have my kids to worry about.”“What about them?” she asks.“What do you mean “what about them?” ? Where am I going to keep them while I go face my parents?”“I didn't understand… Why do you need to keep them anywhere? What is wrong with the cottage?”“I can't leave them alone, Tammy” I scoff at her. “You have no idea how mischievous they can be. Hell, the las
TRAVISAuthor's note: Hi my lovelies. I am so sorry for the disappearance. I had some personal stuff that took me out but I am back now, and I will do my best not to disappoint. Now back to teg story.“They are being followed,” Mark says as he walks in.“What? Who?” I ask as I look up from the maps spread out on my desk.“Louisa’s parents. They are being shadowed.”“By who? Gaines? Why? He is the one who sent them here.”“Not, Gaines himself, but his people. Some of his wolves. But they are not the only ones. Two of Selene’s acolytes are shadowing Gaines Wolves."“Oh, fuck. This is going to be an issue, isn't it?““Most likely. We are going to need to find a solution to nip it in the bud.”“Hmm,” I mutter as I take a seat. “Has Tammy informed Louisa about their arrival?”“Hmm, she headed over to the cottage early this morning. They should be-”Knock. Knock.“Alpha, it is Tammy,” her voice echoes from the door. “Louisa is with me.”Mark and I exchange a glance before I nod towards the
LOUISA I wake up in a start and for a long second, I remain still, trying to figure out what had woken me up. It is already morning, but not early enough for the sun rays to start peeking through the windows. It had taken me a long time to fall asleep last night. Between being in a new place -a pack, to be exact-, having my children so close to Travis, and then that fight with Tammy, it is a wonder I had managed to even get some shut eye. I hear it again The knock. It must have been what had woken me up. Without hesitation, I get out of the bed, quietly so as not to wake the kids, and quickly make my way to the door Another knock begins to sound just as I pull the door open. It is Tammy. “Oh,” I gasp in relief. Glad that she had decided to come back. “I am so glad you came back,” I rush to say. “I didn't like how we left th
TRAVIS “We have a series of problems,” Mark says as he strolls into my study. “I suggest you brace yourself.” “What is it now?” I groan as I lean back in my chair. “Can't a man get one moment's peace?” “Not if they are an Alpha of a leading pack,” he retorts. “It is the price of greatness.” “Sure, whatever. What happened?” “Per your instructions, we followed Gaines to monitor his movements after he left the pack, and guess who visited him not long after he got home?” “I am not as obsessed with the man as he is with me, so how the hell am I supposed to know that?” I ask. “Who was it?” “Selene.” “Selene? Selene Lance? The deranged witch?” “The one and only.” “Wonderful,” I mutter. “Just bloody wonderful. What could a self made, important, egotistical witch like her want with a misogynistic and backwards man like Gaines?”
