Chapter 4

Author: Paper
Mindy was right. I could not even wait for two days before going home.

The next day was Thanksgiving, so I had to go home to pack my things.

As I entered the house, I saw that all my things were thrown haphazardly at the door. There were even a few stray dogs tugging at my things.

A wave of anger rose in my chest, but I pushed it down.

Harvey happened to come out of the bedroom. "Mason, you really did come back, but it's only been a day! You're even more obedient than Mindy’s puppy. You're a desperate, homeless dog!" He looked at me with an openly sarcastic expression.

I ignored him, crouching down and slowly packing up my things. Everything else was there except my family photograph. It was the only remaining family photograph of my parents and me.

I stared at Harvey and shouted at him, "Where's my family photo? Where did you put my family photo?"

Harvey smiled and then took out the small photo frame from behind him. "Mason, are you looking for this?"

I was just about to reach out to snatch it when Harvey smiled and raised his hand high.

"No..."

Unfortunately, he threw the frame hard on the ground. The glass instantly shattered into pieces, dividing my parents and me into countless pieces.

I had not just lost them through death, but through this ruined photograph too.

My eyes were bloodshot as I swung my arm and struck Harvey. With a slap, a red mark instantly appeared on his face.

Just then, Mindy used all her strength to push me away, nearly causing me to stumble.

"Mason, you lunatic! What did you do to Harvey?"

Harvey's eyes were red. "Mindy, it's my fault. I shouldn't have accidentally dropped Mason's family photo."

Mindy glanced at the photograph on the floor before glaring at me fiercely. "It's just a dumb photo. If it's broken, it's broken."

She helped Harvey to his feet as she spoke.

It turned out she thought it was just a dumb photograph .

I had no idea if it was the emotional backlash or the discomfort from having my blood drawn, but a piercing pain shot through my chest. I felt as if I were being gripped by invisible hands, leaving me powerless. "Mindy, it hurts so much. Can you take me to the hospital?"

Mindy paused, her voice indifferent. "Pretending again? Pretending once might earn you sympathy, but doing it all the time will only annoy people. Get lost."

Harvey smiled smugly. "Mindy, my face hurts so much."

Mindy answered quickly and distressedly, "Come on, I'll take you to the hospital. Don't be afraid. The pain will go away soon."

With that, she wrapped her arms around Harvey, and they walked away without looking back.

Looking at her back, I was completely disappointed. I truly did not love her anymore.

I was already in the hospital when I woke up again.

The doctor breathed a sigh of relief. "Mr. Gregory, you're finally awake. Do you know that you would have died if you had come in a little later?"

I stood up. My heart skipped a beat as I thought about Mindy walking away. It turns out she could be so heartless to someone she did not love.

My assistant walked in and looked at me. "Do you want to postpone it to another day?"

My eyes were cold. "No, let's do it today, on Thanksgiving Day."

My assistant added, "Sir, I've also discovered something. Harvey's medical records are all fabricated. He wasn't ill at all. He didn't even go abroad to get medical treatment. He went abroad because he hooked up with another wealthy woman, but she later dumped him."

I answered calmly, "Really? Help me sort out the information and give it to Mindy. I want to give her a gift she'll never forget this Thanksgiving."

The country I was in would hold a day of repentance every year. Everyone would participate in repenting for their mistakes over the past year.I was walking down the road with Anthony.Just then, a commotion broke out ahead."Damn! Who is this?""She seems to be Mason's ex-wife.""She's that cheater. I've never seen such a disgusting woman before!"I looked up and saw Mindy kneeling on the ground with a thorny stick on her back.Mindy opened her eyes to me and nodded at the priest when she saw me. "I, Mindy Horton, wronged my husband. This was my first mistake."The priest hit her hard with a wide board."Contacting my previous assistant and having an affair during our marriage was my second mistake."The priest hit her again, this time harder than the last time.No one around pitied her."You deserve it, you b*tch!""I think even her kneeling there has dirtied our god.""Get lost!"Amidst the curses all around, Mindy continued, "Using my husband's blood to save the home

I had no idea when Mindy left after I went home that day, and I was not interested in knowing either. One day, I led Anthony downstairs when Anthony quickly hid behind me.I looked up and saw Mindy standing downstairs, her eyes red as she gazed at both of us. She walked toward me weirdly, looked at me, and said hoarsely, "Do you already have a child? But I've investigated and you're not married yet..."I burst into laughter, looked at her, and said, "Mindy, do you think everyone likes to fool around as much as you do? Also, we're already divorced. Stop pestering me. I adopted Anthony. He has nothing to do with you."Mindy paused. "I don't mind. Anthony can also be my child. Even if we're not related by blood, I'm willing to treat him as my own son."I turned around to leave. However, she looked at Anthony and said, "Anthony, can you call me Mom? I'm your Mom."Anthony held my hand tightly and responded, "No, you're not my mom."Mindy said, "I'm your mom. I will be as good to you

As I spoke, Mindy's face darkened more and more. She looked away guiltily. "I didn't know he was pretending to be sick."I laughed even more mockingly. "You would draw all your husband's blood for a homewrecker just because you didn't know? Did I owe it to you?"Mindy suddenly became anxious. "He's not a homewrecker. He's just my assistant. Mason, I've already apologized to you for what happened. What on earth do you want to do?""He's not a homewrecker? You've slept with him. I didn’t know women called their boytoys their assistants!Mindy held my wrist tightly. "How long are you going to keep making a fuss? Can't you be more forgiving? It's not like I’ve been fooling around with random guys. Harvey has worked for me for many years, and I was deceived by him. Instead of feeling sorry for me, you treated me like this."It was only now that I discovered that such shameless people existed. Before I could say a word, a neighbor pulled me aside."How could you be so shameless? This year marked my fourth year abroad. My child, Anthony Gregory, was playing in the courtyard while I stood at the entrance, watching him. I adopted him after going abroad.Just then, my neighbor shouted at me, "Mason, a woman is looking for you at the entrance."I paused for a moment. "A woman?""Yeah. She says she's your wife, coming to take you home."I frowned slightly before walking to the entrance. As expected, it was Mindy. She actually came looking for me. After not seeing each other for a few years, she had lost a lot of weight. Her hair was unkempt, and the wrinkles on her shirt were not smoothed out.The security guard at the entrance asked me, "Mr. Gregory, is she really your wife?"I shook my head coldly. "I don't know her."Just as I was about to turn around and leave, Mindy grabbed my hand. "Mason, I've finally found you. Do you know how long I've been looking for you? Come home with me, okay? Stop making a fuss.""Making a fuss?"It turned out that she stil

Mindy could no longer suppress her pent-up anger. She grabbed Harvey by the collar and slapped him. "You scumbag! It was you. It was all you!" Harvey did not expect Mindy to suddenly appear. The pain on his face made his expression darken. Then, he continued feebly, "Mindy, what are you talking about? Why are you being so mean?"Mindy threw the medical report and photographs at his face. She slapped Harvey hard across his face. "You b*stard! How much have you lied to me? Where did you make Mason go?"Photographs were scattered all over the floor.Harvey knew his lies had been exposed. His face darkened before he let out a mocking laugh. "What's wrong with me going abroad to look for someone better after you married Mason? You were the one who married Mason when I was in love with you. You married him, but you weren't satisfied. You were still thinking of me. Wasn't it you who hooked up with me first? Mindy, you're even more despicable than me. You're really disgusting! No wonder M

Harvey's face was no longer swollen. However, thinking about the final look Mason gave Mindy made her feel as if her heart was being crushed."What's wrong, Mindy?"Mindy came to her senses. "Nothing. I have something to do today. Stay here. I'll arrange for someone to take care of you."Harvey frowned. "But today is Thanksgiving, Mindy."However, no matter how coquettish and cute he acted, Mindy still walked away without looking back. The faster Mindy rushed home, the stronger the bad premonition she had became. It was not until she returned to the bedroom that she saw all of Mason's things were gone. She quickly took out her phone. Fortunately, the call connected, and she finally let out a sigh of relief. "Where are you?"Mason's voice came. "Why are you calling me? Today is Thanksgiving. Don't you have to spend time with your favorite assistant?"Mindy frowned. "Mason, why are you always so petty? I'm home today to spend Thanksgiving with you and also celebrate our third wedd
