Chapter 7: What have I gotten myself into?
Becky's POV
Seriously, what is wrong with this bastard? What part of keep your distance doesn't he understand…oh wait, I only said that In my head. Shit.
Either way, it's only been five days and this impatient buffalo of an Alpha wouldn't leave me be. How ironic.
So much for trying to keep distance. I snared in my head.
I tried to step aside but his hand held my waist firmly stopped me in my tracks.
“What seems to be the problem Mr Zach?” He asked, his voice deadly calm.
Mia jumped up from her chair as she put on an innocent and meek face.
Gosh, the urge to punch her right in the face right there and then is unbearable. Such and ungrateful, scheming bitch.
Gosh I already dislike her and I've only been here for two days and I already know everyone's attitude.
Mr Zach's face was almost as pale as a ghost's. He was about to say something when Mia, in her all innocent and heavenly act started crying crocodile tears.
“I'm sorry big brother, it's all my fault. I made a mistake with editing the number of zeros on the price project before it got presented to the investors, he got scolded. I'm sorry Mr Zach, I'm sorry guys for my mistake. I promise to do better or I'll…I'll just go draf my my resignation letter.” Mia said still crying and about to run off when Mr Zach blocked her path and told her it wasn't her fault and in a soft tone.
Hum excuse the fuck out of me? She literally just said she was the one in the wrong. So let her quit if she wants to. All she does is slack off all day and whenever she actually gets work done she makes a big mess and we the true innocent ones have to atone and clean up her mess which normally almost cost the company. This man is mentally blind.
I forcefully pushed Haunter’s hand away from my waist, ignoring the spark of heat that trailed after his touch like my body was stupidly trying to cling to it. Not now. Not when this circus of manipulation was unfolding right in front of me.
Mia was still dabbing at her dry-ass eyes with a tissue like she was auditioning for a drama she wasn’t talented enough to get cast in.
Pathetic.
I crossed my arms and narrowed my eyes at the scene, refusing to let the tension brewing in my chest win. “You know what’s funny?” I said loud enough for the room to hear, voice dipped in venom-laced honey. “She admitted it was her fault, yet somehow Mr. Zach is still apologizing for her.” I turned to look directly at him. “Is logic dead or just out on a smoke break?”
Zach flinched like I’d slapped him. Good.
Mia paused mid-sniffle, probably not expecting me to open my mouth. Her eyes darted toward Haunter, silently begging for protection. But he remained quiet, unreadable, arms crossed as he leaned against the desk like he was watching a mildly entertaining show.
“No one asked for your opinion,” Mia snapped, her meek mask slipping for just a second.
“Oh, I wasn’t offering it for you. I was making a public observation for the room.” I gave her a tight-lipped smile. “You’re welcome.”
The others in the office were frozen, pretending to work but clearly eavesdropping. Typical. No one ever wanted to speak up, but they always loved a front-row seat to someone else doing it.
“Becky,” Mr. Zach finally said, trying to sound stern but coming off like a damp sponge. “There’s no need to escalate things.”
“No, there’s no need to cover up repeated incompetence just because the mess-maker cries on cue,” I said, eyes locked with his. “You keep letting her get away with these ‘mistakes’ and sooner or later, one of them is going to sink this whole company. But sure, let’s keep shielding the walking liability with fake tears and misplaced loyalty.”
The air in the room dropped a few degrees. Even Mia had shut up.
“Enough.” Haunter’s low but deadly voice sliced through the silence like a blade.
What big thing does he want to say now? I snorted inwardly while wishing I could roll my eyes in my head.
“Becky, I think you've outdone yourself now." Lora, my wolf said.
I almost forgot. Five days ago, I found my wolf, well technically she was asleep and overslept her due date to wake up. How annoyingly typical. I wake up in time while the old wolf sleeps like a fuckin log.
" And why should I care?” I thought walking towards the wall beside the door and folding my arms while resting on it. “I am seriously tired of her constant scheming and trying to sabotage me however she can. I haven't even done anything to her but acting nice because I am a nice person but it has its limits.”
“Mr Zach, can you please explain the problem and we will look for a solution?”
Mr. Zach opened his mouth like he had something noble to say, but the hesitation in his eyes made me doubt any real substance would follow. Typical. Always too scared to rock the boat—even when it's already halfway sunk.
“I… It was a misunderstanding,” he stammered finally, not meeting anyone's eyes. “Let’s not turn this into something bigger.”
Bigger? This was already a goddamn wildfire, and you’re over here trying to put it out with a damp paper towel.
“I see,” I muttered, biting the inside of my cheek. “Then I guess the company’s standard now is emotional manipulation and blind forgiveness.”
Mia sniffled louder, clearly hoping someone would throw her another lifeline. “I said I was sorry…”
“Right, because that fixes the numbers and restores investor confidence.” I tilted my head, sarcasm seeping out of every word. “Apologies don’t come with a reset button, sweetheart.”
“Becky,” Haunter said again, quieter this time. There was a weight behind it, like a leash pulling at my rage. He pushed off the desk and walked over, the office holding its breath with each step. I held my ground even as he stopped close—too close—his scent clogging my thoughts and his eyes digging into mine.
“She’s not worth your energy.”
His words were low, meant only for me, but they echoed in my chest louder than a scream. For a moment, my rage faltered. And I hated that. I hated that he could calm the storm with just a few words. It felt like cheating.
“And yet, here I am, wasting it anyway,” I said, but my tone had softened, much to my dismay.
Mia looked between us, eyes narrowing ever so slightly, a flicker of jealousy passing through her like a shadow. Of course. She’d wanted Haunter’s attention, and now she was watching him give it to the girl who refused to bend to her bullshit.
Serves her right.
“Isn't she your sister?" I said, my voice almost as low as a whisper. “Aren't you supposed to be on her side?" I asked, sarcasm running from my mouth with every word.
Mr. Zach rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. “Look, let’s just… move on. Mia, double-check your work next time. Becky, thank you for… your input.”
“Input,” I scoffed, turning toward the door. “Call it what it is, Zach. A warning. One you’ll regret ignoring.”
Before Mr. Zach could mumble another weak protest, I pushed the door open and walked out, heels clicking hard against the tiled floor like punctuation marks to my fury. Lora stirred restlessly in the back of my mind, her presence growing heavier. While Jimmy followed closely behind, he was practically leaping with nearly contained joy.
“That girl’s soul stinks of lies and poison,” she growled. “Something isn’t right about her. Not just petty… dangerous.”
I didn’t disagree.
I made it into the hallway and paused by the water dispenser, trying to steady my breathing. The entire office felt like a cage today—and Mia? She wasn’t just some annoying coworker. No. She was something else. Something darker.
I glanced back toward the conference room, the door slowly closing behind me, the murmurs inside picking up again. As if nothing had happened. As if they could pretend the storm hadn’t just passed through.
But I saw it. The flicker in Mia’s eyes. The twitch in her lips when she thought no one was watching. That wasn’t fear. That was calculation.
She wasn’t playing the victim. She was playing the game. And somehow, she was several moves ahead.
My phone buzzed. I pulled it out instinctively, expecting a message from Haunter, maybe a half-assed warning or an apology. But it wasn’t from him.
Unknown Number:
You made a mistake. Now she's suspicious.
My blood ran cold.
“What the hell…” I whispered.
Lora growled louder, pacing now. “We’re being watched. This isn’t just office politics anymore.”
Another buzz.
Unknown Number:
Leave it alone, or we’ll bury more than just numbers.
I stared at the screen, the letters burning into my brain like a brand.
This wasn’t just about Mia messing up a report. This wasn’t about incompetence. This was something deeper. Hidden. Protected.
And I’d just stepped into the middle of it.
I slowly turned my head —just in time to catch a shadow slip around the corner at the far end of the hallway. Gone in a blink of an eye.

Chapter 6: Luna. Becky's POV “ You can't force me into marring you and being your mate. In case you didn't know or your mindset is still stuck in the eighteen or nineteen hundreds, we're already in the morden day era and shit like that isn't common anymore.” I said, glaring at him." For someone who rejects me, you're speaking quite comfortably with me.” Hunter said with a slight smirk.I stopped my pacing and turned to face him. Thank the moon goddess that dad's study was sound proof otherwise the moment I stepped out a painful slap on the back awaits me because I know everyone eagerly wants to know why I rejected the Alpha king in front of everyone and almost immediately dragged him into my Dad's study. I stared at him in silence as I walked towards my dad's chair and say on it, straighting my posture on the chair, my brain unable to think of a suitable response. So I sat like a diva crossing my legs on the table. Haunter's gaze fell on my legs before looking back at my face. “W
Chapter 5: Rejected.Becky’s POVMom's last words echoed in my head as she dragged me into the house smiling brightly as the pack members greeted her and some started at me with surprised, amused looks. I slightly shook my head, biting back the memories that I'd long buried and tucked behind my mind.Mom practically dragged me through the double doors of the pack house, her fingers laced tightly with mine as she grinned and waved at every familiar face that passed by. I kept my head low, a small smile tugging at my lips as the memories threatened to spill over. It was surreal to be back. Every smell, every sound—it all wrapped around me like a worn blanket I didn’t realize I’d missed until I was home again.“Oh hush now, I know that look,” Mom whispered, squeezing my hand. “You’re home, Pumpkin. That’s all that matters.”Seriously, this woman can never change. I thought as my smile widened. The moment we stepped into the kitchen,on one side of the large table, was the overwhelming s
Chapter 4. Roots and Shadows.Becky’s POV. I got out of the airport, cold air carrying the unmistakable scent of pine and damp earth that only my pack lands had. The familiarity hit me like a punch to the gut, stirring a wave of emotions I wasn’t ready to face. Five years away from this place, and yet it still felt like home.Dragging my suitcase behind me, I adjusted the strap of my bag on my shoulder and took a deep breath. Things would be different now. I was different now. I’d spent five years in the human world, working, studying, and building a life of independence. But the memory of why I left—the rejection, the pain—still lingered in the back of my mind, a ghost that refused to fade completely. The airport was as quiet as I remembered. I was glad to see that that didn't change with the five years I was gone. I stopped in my tracks, remembering I didn't return alone. “Becks. Slow down will ya? I know it feels good to be back home but I only have two legs and a heavy suitcase
Chapter 3: Leaving.Becky's POV I was forcefully work up the next morning by my parents arguing. I groned in annoyance, they do this almost all the time, always arguing but never leaving each other. It must be nice.I used my blacked to burry myself further into my bed and counted down from three.“Three…two…one…”And just like that, the yelling stopped. I tussed and turned trying to sleep but it was gone.Today was a Saturday so I woldn't have to go to school and start explaing to Cassy and Cindy why I suddenly disappeared at the party last night. I dragged myself out of bed, took a shower, got dressed and went downstairs imto the kitchen. My parents were all Lovie dovie in the kitchen. “Gose, I need to wash my eyes, could the both of you please stop? A kid is here." They both burs out laughing, “You're a teenager, and 17 at that, so…no go get a boyfriend if it bothers you that much.” " A hard pass.” I said taking my seat at the kitchen counter. " That reminds me, when did you
Chapter 2. The rejection.Becky’s POV They say, the day you find the chosen mate given to you by the moon goddess would be the happiest day of your life, but unfortunately…mine was hexed. Who knew the one person I was desperately waiting for all my life, wanting to spend the remaining days of my life with would reject me on the spot without batting an eye or thinking it over all because I was wolfless. What a jerk. I guess finding happiness or being happy was a curse for me since the day I opened my eyes into this world.****4 years ago I was only 17 years old when I met him. I know I was young and maybe expecting too much at that age but give me a break here. I was brainwashed by my parents' happy marriage and those around me and the stories that all told me. My parents found each other when they were only 16, a year younger than me, so don't judge me if there's anyone you want to judge or blame, do that with the moon goddess. The Alpha King. Or should I say, my fated mate…I w
