Blaze Westbrook, the future Alpha of the Blood Moon pack, sat with his back against the trunk of an old maple tree at the foot of the cross mountain.
It was not hard to see beneath the haunting of the full moon. The moon hung up high in the dark sky, bathing everything in a soft blue hue. The trees casted eerie shadows, looking ghostly but Blaze used his wolf’s eyesight to detect any movements through the dark forest.
He leaned his head against the tree trunk as his mind wandered off to the conversation he had with his parents this morning. They have been constantly reminding him of attending the mating gathering tonight. Their wish was unwavering. Since he was the future Alpha, he had to attend the gathering to find his mate but it didn’t sound appealing to him.
It’s been five years ever since he turned eighteen and he hasn’t had any luck in finding his mate during the past mating seasons held every year. Either his mate hadn’t turned eighteen yet or his destined mate wasn’t even in the Blood Moon pack.
Yet, here he was, sitting in the dark forest to kill time and waiting till dawn to return home. As he waited, he could feel the air cooling down by the mountain area.
It was irrefutable to go against his parents’ decision.
The sudden scent of jasmine and vanilla hit his nose from somewhere close. That meant only one thing, his mate was close.
He immediately stood up, permanently on guard. His heart rate picked up as he caught another whiff of the aroma. His wolf, Bash, paced around in anticipation as he urged Blaze to run towards the enticing scent that consumed them whole.
The intoxicating fragrance stood out over the other scents surrounding the forest trees and the trails left behind by the other werewolves attending the mating gathering.
Using his wolf instincts, Blaze pushed forward as he tried to make out which way the scent was coming from. He breathed in the slight refreshing wind blowing from each direction before he glanced north, straight ahead of him.
A smirk tugged at his lips once the scent intensified ten folds, right before a woman slammed straight into him. His arm instinctively wrapped around her waist to steady her.
His wolf did not have to tell him. He already knew that this woman was his mate when sparks, lots of them flared up, shooting through him like a blazing hot wire.
His eyes flashed as his wolf irately fought to break free. Bewildered at his wolf’s sudden mood swing; Blaze’s eyebrows furrowed deep in confusion before his ears picked up on the approaching werewolves.
Blaze’s entire body stood deathly as his eyes shifted between his mate and the male werewolves who were apparently chasing after her. Totally appalled, his anger and confusion refused to let him analyze this scenario.
He trailed the length of her body, taking in the bruises covering her arms and legs. His glowing blue eyes darkened as anger surged up inside him.
His wolf’s aura, an electrifying blue current wrapped around him as a protective shield when he growled, dangerously low.
Blaze’s eyes trailed the males hovering around them waiting for a chance to jump on the woman before stopping on the man whose scent was still apparent on his mate’s body. Blaze recognized him. He was Eli, one of the pack scouts.
Eli stepped back cautiously when Blaze’s eyes narrowed down into slits.
He began taking slow steps towards Eli, the werewolf who had torn her clothes and hurt her. The new terrified look he held when Blaze neared him stayed put.
“How dare you?” Blaze’s voice was low and unsettlingly calm.
“A-Alpha -”
Blaze cut him off with a hand around his throat, holding him away before tightening his hold on him, his claws digging into the flesh there. Eli trembled, trying to break free as Blaze lifted him off the ground, his legs dangling mid-air.
Fighting every urge to snap his neck, Blaze released him when he heard his heartbeat about to halt. As the future Alpha, he wasn’t going to kill one of his own members. The man dropped to the ground like a heap.
“Go” Blaze ordained.
Eli nodded, coughing and sputtering as he tried to regain himself.
A small look of discomfort tugged at Blaze’s features as he fought with his wolf. This wasn’t just about him; he has to think about the pack as well.
Blaze knew that if his wolf was unleashed, he would do a lot more damage and he did not want blood spilling on the ground tonight. Driven by their lust for their mates, these wolves were all just dazed under the full moon. Blaze thought.
Yet, he wasn’t going to keep it low as his anger radiated off of him like massive waves. It resonated within the dark night, sending the wolves a death warning.
“You should learn to respect your future Alpha.” Blaze growled his eyes blazing as his wolf fought to be released.
Not wanting to defy their future alpha, they backed away fearfully.
“Smart move” His voice was no longer completely human, his wolf’s overlapping his as Bash forced Blaze to shift midway.
They rushed to get out of his sight, not wanting to cross their Alpha when he was in this form. Seeing their submission, a smirk crossed his lips as his wolf relished in their fear.
Astounded by the fact that the future alpha was her destined mate, Lilith barely noticed the fact that Blaze’s nails had sharpened to pointy claws, something that tends to happen to werewolves whose wolves were fighting to break free.
Not everyone could control their wolves at this point.
Only those with true alpha blood could shift halfway in their human forms while some features of their wolves’ sides would be starkly visible.
Blaze’s eyes remained electrifying blue, indicating that his wolf was also below the surface, fighting for dominance yet, Blaze refused to submit to his furious wolf who wanted nothing but to break those bastards’ necks for touching his mate.
Nearing his destined mate, Blaze was completely enthralled by her as he recognized her. She was Lilith Venerelli, one of the fiercest warriors in the entire Blood Moon pack, of course after her parents though.
His wolf basked proudly at his mate’s capability.
He never paid any close attention to the women within the pack. He was always being tasked several duties by his father which required him to travel to other packs and to the Lycans’ council. Hence, he was barely able to stay within the pack.
The few days he got to stay within the pack always consisted of him getting trained by the Venerelli’s. The only time he would be left alone and free was during the mating season every year or unless he was sick which rarely happened.
Blaze had to admit that his mate was the most gorgeous woman he’s ever met. She had straight dark hair cascading to her lower back and framing her face as she regarded him. She had the most seductive full lips he has ever seen and her eyes… her eyes were the most beautiful shade of maroon he has ever seen, honey gold eyes.
Her slender body made her appear tiny and fragile, but Blaze knew that what she lacked in brute strength, she made up for it in agility and speed.
He breathed in her intoxicating scent, seemingly not having smelled enough of it when he frowned while Bash growled impatiently. Something felt off with her scent… heat!
Something was amiss here.
How could his mate be in heat at this time of the year? No one had ever been in such predicament before, that too, during the mating season unless the one hundred year old myth about the sigma was true?Blaze did not want to believe something that was only known as a myth. Yet, he still couldn’t help but think why the Moon Goddess chose to degrade Lilith to being the pack’s sigma. If Lilith was the next pack’s sigma then there was no way his parents will accept her as his destined mate and the pack’s destined Luna. She could pose a threat to the pack. That meant only one thing; Blaze wouldn’t be able to accept her as his mate.It was getting hard for him to calm his wolf when his mate was oozing such a sensuous scent. His breath hitched before his breaths started to shake as he got another whiff of her heat.He clenched his fingers tightly. His nails grew back into claws and his canines extended. No matter how much he tried t
Blaze leaned closer, their faces drawing near, and he could feel the heat of her breath mingling with his. He closed his eyes when he got a nice whiff of her delicious scent. His jaw ticked in anger. It drove his wolf insane that he couldn’t touch her that he couldn’t tell her why he had to stay away from her. Lilith’s belly churned with different emotions, fear, anticipation and desire, desire? She resisted that strong emotion, wanting nothing to do with it. Lilith’s eyes glistened with unshed tears and her lips trembled in fear. Bash whined and reluctantly let Blaze gain control, his eyes changing back to his normal silver color. Realizing that he reacted impulsively, Blaze backed away. “We’ll have to wait till dawn. That’s when the mating season usually ends.” Blaze said, avoiding her eyes. Hearing this, Lilith quickly put his jacket on to cover herself despite wanting to throw it back on his face. She wasn’t looking forward
At her parents’ side, Lilith trembled uncontrollably. She was so distraught she could not speak. Their shoulders shook with silent tears. They couldn’t bear to see their daughter in this state. “Let’s get inside.” Erica advised. They guided Lilith inside the house and sat her down on one of the couches. Lilith tightened Blaze’s jacket around her shoulders. She fisted the material in her hands. She heedlessly breathed in his scent which was strangely soothing. The mate bond was still affecting her emotions. But, my wolf died! Lilith thought. “Lucy is gone, mom! She left me.” Lilith broke down. She was devastated by the loss of her wolf. “What is a sigma, dad? What are they talking about?” Choking back her tears, Lilith asked. She couldn’t control her emotions. She was miffed that the Moon Goddess chose to mess up her life when everything was going accordingly to her plan. “There hasn’t been a record of one in almost one hundred years. People began sayi
Lilith was enthralled by the looming trees as she followed the trail to the great valley. The Blood Moon pack ground encompassed a large forest area, two huge mountains and some valleys with the great valley belonging to the Venerelli’s. The great valley stretched away ahead of them for miles, a valley with grass of a rich green, well-timbered, but more as a park is timbered. Winding lines showed here and there revealing the courses of streams and far away, the high masses of hills were visible. The continuous line of the trail was lost amongst clumps of fine tall trees, but odd stretches of it remaining visible showed it angling down until disappearing south-west, towards the pack’s south border. The Blood Moon pack would often use this ground for pack training in werewolf forms since it was the biggest of all the other valleys. Reaching the great valley, Lilith’s mind wandered over to her childhood. She would spend majority of her time training under her parent
Lilith woke up to her mom’s low and urgent voice.“Beta Travis is asking for you at the pack house.”Lilith groaned before nodding with a sigh. She got up and rushed inside her bathroom to get ready for the day.She hurried downstairs once she was done but her mom refused to let her go without having some breakfast.Lilith was aware that her parents were pretending to act like everything was normal. The tension hanging around the house spoke differently. There was less than a week time before she would have to leave the pack. Once she left, there would be no chance of her ever returning. She smiled at her parents while joining them at the kitchen table. She wanted to cherish the little moments she had left with them. She felt nervous when she entered the pack house to find the living room area filled with some pack members. The omegas were running to and fro in a frenzy, trying to keep up with Beta Travis’s list of wo
Lilith smiled at her work when she was done. She turned to talk to one of the omegas but the girl was already running towards the kitchen area. The omegas were supposed to prepare tonight’s feast. Lilith was instructed to help them. So, she got to work since dusk was falling rapidly. Lilith has not seen Blaze after she last saw him on the terrace. She actually did not want to cross his path ever again but her heart begged to differ. She rolled her eyes as she felt the mate pull when she thought about that cold-blooded egoistic jerk. Lilith was starving. She regretted not having more of the pancakes her mom made this morning. She gulped down a bottle of water to quench her hunger. She still had to serve snacks and drinks to the pack members. She glanced at the clock. It was just seven o’clock. She wondered how the omegas were still going around doing their chores in their hunger state. She hadn’t seen them eat lunch or anything. She really hoped they a
It was Blaze’s turn to be completely stunned. He couldn’t believe Lilith just spoke to him with such an attitude. His heart swelled with pride as he watched her angry walk, gaze fixed on her swaying hips.‘Why did you let her leave?’ Bash growled.Blaze ignored him. He slowly walked away, deep in thought. He had spent the entire day searching about the last sigma but he found nothing regarding her in the library’s archives room. It was strange that there were no records of the last sigma.Blaze sighed. He would have to wait until his parents return from the Lycans’ council to ask them about it. The pack had seemingly already figured out that Lilith was a sigma based on the weird event that repeated itself during this year’s mating season. They made the connection pretty fast and were now, set on banishing Lilith. If they were indeed right in their calculations, then, it was undeniable that his parents would banish
The entire pack had already gathered around Lilith’s house. Every pack member awaited Lilith’s banishment. In their world, everything needed to be in order. And having a sigma within the pack broke that order which made everyone wary of Lilith for she was classed a danger to the pack.Every werewolf nurtured an instinctive destructive, yet protective force inside them. The need to protect their loved ones came above everything else. So, as Alpha of the Blood Moon pack, Alpha Cole had to ensure safety for all the pack members.Alpha Cole stared at the Venerelli’s as they stepped outside.“Alpha Cole… Luna Mary.” Andrei and Erica bowed in front of their leaders to greet them.“I’ve heard something about your daughter. Is it true?” Alpha Cole got straight to the point.Andrei and Erica stood beside Lilith. As much as they tried acting tough and indifferent, they both feared Alpha Cole&rsquo
