Aprils pov

I’m dragged to the dungeons by the guards, and I hear people murmuring, “You don’t deserve this,” and “I’m sorry.”

However, their words are inadequate because they cannot free me from the silver chains, and they wouldn’t dare go against their Alpha for fear of being next.

Once upon a time, I used to believe that I had a pack I could rely on and one of the fairest and just Alphas, but all that went to hell today.

All this for why? Just because his son rejected me and my mum was defending me? This is not fair at all. What did my parent have to do with anything? Why are they being so damn cruel? My heart is hurting, I can’t take this anymore. They should just kill me with my parents because they are all I have.

Moon Goddess, why did you curse me so?

We enter the dungeons, and I’m instantly hit with the smell of rotten blood and dead bodies.

Is this where they torture people? Or were these people sentenced to stay in this wretched place till their last breath?

One guard escorts me to the cell and throws me in it.

It’s dark, but I can still make out my surroundings using night vision.

The walls are stained with blood, and there is only one small window in the cell. There are two people huddled over each other. They look weak and oddly familiar.

I take in the scent, and it’s the same as my parents.

" M-m-mom? D-d-dad?" I stammer.

The people straightened up and looked at me with pain and a slight bit of hope.

Why are they so hopeful at a time like this?

“April, come here, Let us have one of our family hugs.’ My father jokes.

I jump on them, and they sandwich me in the middle.

Everything is quiet, and it’s clear that everyone is shedding their invisible tears as we remember the doom that awaits us tomorrow.

Mom breaks the tense and sad atmosphere by saying, “April, we want to tell you a bed time story,”

“really mom? I’m eighteen not eight. “I say while smiling.

“please April? Just one last time.” She says while tears threaten to escape her eyes.

The way she says, “one last time,” reminds me of the fate my parents will face tomorrow.

All because of my mate’s hatred for me.

This is the last time they will ever hold me, the last time I will ever hear them talk, and this is the last time I will be with them before I lose them to the clutches of death.

This is the last time I do anything with my parents, and it’s all my fault.

The tears start flowing like the River Nile, and it’s unstoppable.

“mom? Dad? I’m very sorry this is all my fault...” I say in between hiccups.

“don’t you ever blame yourself young lady.I was the one who chose to confront the Alpha not you. So, don’t you dare blame yourself.” my mom comforts me.

“now how about that bedtime story?” My dad asks while changing the subject.

“I’m listening dad! “I try to fake being excited, but I fail miserably.

“Once upon a time, there was a couple. They loved each other very much and were mates, but unfortunately for the couple, they couldn’t have children. They tried everything, but nothing worked.

They did not lose hope. They kept on praying to the moon Goddess, and she did not fail them.

One night, when the husband was out hunting, he encountered a couple.

The couple seemed sad and afraid.

“hello? What are you doing here in the middle of the night?” The hunter asked.

The couple turned, and he was surprised to see them carrying a child.

“This is our daughter. We are in danger, and she is the last of the Sinclair bloodline.. they will find us soon and kill our baby.” They replied, both sobbing.

“what are you running from?” the hunter asked.

“we do not have time to explain. Just please take care of our daughter and make sure they never find her!” they said.

They left the hunter with the baby without answering any of his questions, transformed into their wolf form, and ran. He debated leaving the child, but when he gazed upon her face, he saw nothing but innocence. When she opened her eyes, The hunter decided he would keep her for sure because, at that moment, he felt like she needed him, and in a way, he needed her, too.

The hunter went home to his wife and told her about the child, and they raised her and loved her as though she was one of their own because, to them, she was. She was their world and was loved beyond words. They were pleased, but they never heard from the couple again. The end.” My dad concludes.

Before I can say anything, Dad has already started talking.

“April, this might be hard to hear, but you are not a Robinson. You are a Sinclair,” he tells me while not breaking eye contact.

Wait, Sinclair? Isn’t that the last name of the child that was found by the hunter? I can’t be that ch-

Before I can finish my thoughts. My dad says the words that I’ve been dreading to hear but somehow I felt they were coming.

“April, you are not our biological daughter,.”

APRILS POVThe air in the bar was thick and quiet, which made me uneasy. The kind of silence where you know something’s coming, even if you don’t know what it is. My senses were on high alert, my eyes flicking between the glass of beer in my hand and the rogue who had taken a seat at the counter. He wasn’t saying much, but his presence was loud enough.I couldn’t help but feel the weight of his gaze, the way he was watching me. I wasn’t sure if he knew exactly what I was, but I felt like he was trying to figure me out. My fingers tightened around my glass, keeping myself busy, though every nerve in my body screamed to leave the bar and get some distance between us. But I couldn’t. Not yet.It wasn’t the first time I’d encountered rogues in my travels, but something about this guy felt different. Maybe it was the quiet way he moved and seemed to be waiting for something—waiting for me to slip up. Or perhaps it was just the knowledge that he was part of the group that had been trailing

APRILS POVI felt it again. The sensation crept up my spine, that all-too-familiar prickling feeling. My senses had always been sharp, and they were telling me, without a doubt, that I wasn't alone.I turned my head slightly, watching the shadows as I continued down the quiet street. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end as I knew someone was following me. I didn't need to turn around fully to confirm it. The feeling in my gut—the way the air around me felt too heavy, too aware—told me everything I needed to know.I wasn't afraid, though. Not anymore. I could handle myself. It was what I'd been doing for months—surviving, always staying one step ahead. I was a rogue. And rogues didn't get caught."Stay close, Snow," I murmured to my wolf, whose presence stirred restlessly within me. I could feel her on edge, too. We were ready, prepared. The moment they tried something, we'd strike.I quickened my pace, keeping my steps light and deliberate. I wasn't sure how many there were o

UNKNOWNS POVAfter a couple of days of stalking the bar and the bartender. We decided to move after the bar had emptied out one night. The girl had left, and the Alpha had not returned, but something was still lingering in the air—a sense of impending danger. The streets were eerily quiet as we followed her trail. She had gone down one of the side alleys, and we were determined not to lose her this time.I wasn't sure what it was about her. She was human, at least that's what it seemed. But the way she had interacted with the Alpha… it didn't add up.We were walking into something much bigger than we realized.Suddenly, we heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps behind us. A faint rustling, just out of sight."Keep your eyes open," I muttered. We weren't alone. And I had a feeling we were about to find out exactly why this town felt so strange. The night air had turned colder, an unnatural chill creeping through the alleyways, sending a shiver down my spine. I felt it then—an unsett

Unknown's POVThe bar was thick with smoke and the murmur of voices. The fire crackled in the hearth, sending flickers of orange light dancing across the darkened corners of the room. Outside, the wind howled through the trees, the kind of storm that seemed to promise danger. But in here, everything felt still—too still, like the calm before the storm.I leaned back in the booth, the scent of cheap liquor and sweat clinging to the air, and scanned the room. My eyes flicked to Finn, who was staring at the doorway, eyes narrowed like a predator waiting for a rabbit to appear. Riker sat across from me, fiddling with his knife, his boots tapping absently on the wooden floor."Nothing yet?" Finn asked, his voice low and tight with frustration."No," I muttered. "We've been searching for weeks, and all we've found is a lot of nothing."The werewolf girl we'd been sent to find was still nowhere to be seen. The one who'd been asking too many questions—about packs, about the wolves hidden in t

April's POVThe night felt heavier than usual, the kind of weight that pressed down on your chest and made you second-guess every decision you'd ever made. I leaned against the bar counter, the polished wood smooth under my fingertips. The crowd had thinned out, leaving only the regulars murmuring in hushed tones at the far end of the room.Cassius was gone. The moment he told me he had to leave, I felt that familiar pang of uncertainty. But for the first time in months, I didn't feel abandoned. He'd looked me in the eyes, his voice steady, and told me he'd come back. And I believed him. That scared me more than I cared to admit.I wasn't used to this—to someone showing up and staying, to someone wanting me for more than fleeting moments. He'd brought me flowers and even even coaxed a few real laughs out of me before he left. It was... nice. Too nice. And yet, as much as I hated to admit it, I missed him already. But tonight wasn't about Cassius. The rogues were back. They moved like

  • The Alpha's Chosen   46

Cassius's POVThe moon hung low in the sky, shrouded by dark clouds that carried the scent of impending rain. It mirrored the heaviness in my chest as I walked the perimeter of the pack lands. Every step echoed with the weight of responsibility, but my thoughts weren't entirely here. They drifted—always—to her.April.I tightened my coat against the chill and shook my head, trying to focus on the task at hand. "She's going to drive me insane," I muttered under my breath, but there was no real heat in the words. My Beta, Gabriel, chuckled from beside me, clearly having overheard. "You've got it bad, Alpha."I shot him a sideways glance. "You don't know the half of it.""She's different," he said, his tone turning serious. "I can see why you're drawn to her. But... does she know?"I knew what he meant. Does she know I'm an Alpha? Does she know what I'm risking every time I leave her side to deal with the rogues threatening our lands?"No," I said finally. "Not yet."Gabriel stopped wal
