Luce was capable of pulling things together, and the picnic set was remarkable, considering the little time she had to bring it to existence. I got out of the car, texting her to thank her for the arrangements. She replied: “Do I get a raise then?” I chortled to myself, putting my phone inside my pocket.

Charlotte seemed to enjoy the vicinity as she walked around with her arms wide open, embracing every moment. Her dress flew with the waves of the breeze, and the black strands of her hair glossed brighter under the sun.

She is so beautiful.

“Wow! This is beautiful, Lucas. Did you plan this?” she asked me with uncertainty in her voice. I was also taken by surprise by the breathtaking beauty of the view, but could not disclose it to her as I needed to take credit for the date.

“Why do you sound like you don’t believe this is my idea?” I asked, feigning offense. I walked towards her with a hand on my chest, pretending to be hurt by her disbelief in me.
