登入Nyra's pov
I noticed the smell first, Coffee, Warm bread…Something expensive.
Then I realized, this definitely wasn't my room.
My eyes snapped open.
Gray walls, dark furniture, huge windows overlooking Vancouver, a guitar by the wall and
a familiar black hoodie on a chair.
My stomach dropped…
Oh no.
Slowly, I turned my head and a sleeping figure lay beside me.
Dark hair, sharp jawline,gray sheets.
Kaizen Arclair.
I froze.
"What the hell?!"
Kaizen groaned and pulled a pillow over his face.
"Five more minutes."
"KAIZEN!"
One eye opened, then the other, He looked at me.
And smiled.
"Morning."
I grabbed a pillow and threw it at him.
"What am I doing in your room?!"
"You passed out."
"I passed out in the study room!"
"And now you're here."
"That's not an explanation!"
He laughed.
"You looked uncomfortable and I don't have access to your room"
"So you carried me here?"
"You're welcome."
I stood up.
Bad idea.
The room spun.
Before I could fall, a hand caught my wrist.
Strong.
Warm.
Steady.
"You okay?"
For a second, I forgot I disliked him.
Then I remembered.
I pulled away.
"I'm fine."
"Clearly."
A tray sat on the bedside table.
Coffee.
Toast.
Fruit.
Pancakes.
"What is that?"
"Breakfast."
"For who?"
"You."
I blinked.
That answer came too easily.
Like taking care of people was normal for him.
Which didn't fit the Kaizen I knew.
Suspicion crossed my face.
"It's not poisoned," he sighed.
"I didn't say it was."
"You thought it."
I picked up the coffee.
The warmth settled into my hands.
Then his phone vibrated.
Everything changed.
His shoulders stiffened.
His jaw tightened.
He stared at the screen.
Worried, angry…
Then afraid.
Slowly, he stood.
"Stay here. Don't go to your room yet"
"What?"
"Stay. Here."
He headed for the door.
I caught a glimpse of the caller ID.
CHAIRMAN.
The door slammed shut, leaving me with questions.
Who was Kaizen afraid of and why would he ask me to remain in his room?
Nyra is left alone after Kaizen walks out, she is annoyed because he keeps ordering her around.
She thinks..
"Typical Kaizen, Always dramatic, Always acting like the world revolves around him."
Looking around his room I noticed something; a medicine box, hospital bills hidden in an envelope in the drawer, a picture of Kaizen with his mother and younger brother…
A completely different version of him, immediately I start questioning everything.
His voice outside jolted her back to reality.
Kaizen.
He's angry on the phone.
But the words shock her.
"How much time?"
Silence.
His hand tightened around the phone.
"No, please don't get her involved, Don't tell her."
Another pause.
His voice dropped.
"I said I'll get the money."
Nyra freezes.
Money?
For what?
Then: "Chairman, I don't care what you want from me."
Her breath catches.
Chairman?
Who is that?
She accidentally makes noise.
Kaizen turns.
He knows she heard.
"You were listening?"
"No."
"Nyra."
"Okay fine. Maybe I heard a little."
His expression changes.
"Forget everything you heard."
Anger welled within me.
"You can't just tell me to forget things!"
"This isn't a game."
"And neither am I."
Silence.
"You need to stay away from me."
She laughs bitterly…..
"Funny. You were the one who carried me into your room and ordered me to remain in your room like a captured bird"
That hits him.
Because he knows he cares, he is just trying to protect her from the mess he is in but Nyra can't understand.
Nyra goes back to her room angry at herself for drifting to sleep, because she wouldn't have woken up in his room to witness his bossy attitude that got her upset.
Suddenly she hears a noise which later turned into yelling and shouts from students…
Masked men were outside their lodge.
Kaizen notices too.
His whole personality changes as his cold demeanour returns, he becomes alert and protective.
He shouted almost immediately running towards her.
"Lock the door."
Fear gripped me as cold sweat broke on my forehead….
Still watching the masked men cart away with students.
"Who are you afraid of?"
"Not who."
Silence followed solemnly…
"How many.”
Tears already welled up in my eyes.
What have I gotten myself into?
“You're a Kidnapper Kaizen”
For a second, he just stared at me..then he laughed.
Not the arrogant, teasing laugh I was used to.
A short, exhausted laughter.
The kind that carried too many secrets…..
"If I were a kidnapper, Solenne..."
His gray eyes locked onto mine.
"...you'd be the last person I'd let near this place."
Another scream echoed outside.
Closer this time,
My heart nearly stopped.
The masked men were moving through the courtyard.
One student tried to run..
He was tackled before he got five steps.
A hand clamped over my mouth before a terrified gasp could escape.
I froze.
Kaizen.
His chest was pressed against my back as he pulled me away from the window.
"Do you want them to see you?"
His voice was barely above a whisper.
The heat of his breath brushed my ear.
My pulse went completely out of control.
Not now.
Not when people were literally being dragged away.
But my stupid heart clearly hadn't gotten the memo.
His hand remained over my mouth.
Firm, Protective and Steady.
The realization hit me almost immediately.
Kaizen wasn't hiding from them…
He was hiding me.
Slowly, he lowered his hand,
Neither of us moved.
The space between us disappeared, I could hear his breathing.
Could see the small cut on his jaw.
The faint bruise peeking beneath the collar of his shirt.
Bruises?
Again.
My eyes narrowed.
"You knew this was going to happen."
His expression hardened.
"No."
"You told me not to leave your room."
Silence.
"Kaizen."
Another silence.
"I knew something was wrong."
The answer sent a chills through me.
A loud bang rattled the hallway.
Both of us jumped.
Someone was trying doors.
Room by room.
Getting closer.
The confident campus king vanished completely, In his place stood someone else.
Someone dangerous….
Someone scared….
Someone prepared….
Without warning, he grabbed my wrist.
"We're leaving."
"What?"
"The basement."
"No way."
"Nyra."
"I am not hiding underground with you!"
The look he gave me made my stomach drop.
Because for the first time since meeting him...
He looked genuinely angry.
Not annoyed..
Not playful…
Terrified…
"They're looking for students."
Another bang,
Closer.
"They don't take everyone."
Bang!!!
Closer.
"They take specific people."
Bang!!!
Right outside our hallway..
My throat we
nt dry.
"How do you know that?"
Kaizen's jaw tightened.
For a moment, I thought he wouldn't answer.
Then he said quietly…
"Because I've seen it before."
The hallway suddenly fell silent.
The kind of silence that felt worse than the screaming.
Both of us froze.
Then came the sound of footsteps.
Slow,
Deliberate.
Stopping directly outside my door…
A shadow appeared beneath it.
And someone tried the handle.
Just a little reminder that I appreciate every single one of you. Thank you for reading, supporting, commenting, and being part of this journey with me. Every vote and every kind word makes my day. I hope you're smiling today, and if you're not, here's a virtual hug from your author. 🫂💕 Love you all!
A few minutes ago, the dangerous noise scared the hell out of me but that has only increased my curiosity to know what's happening in there… The corridor seemed colder the deeper we went, the concrete walls, flickering lights.Silence…..the kind of silence that made your skin crawl, I could feel my heart thumping hard against my chest. My heart hammered violently against my ribs, it hurt, but I kept on following Kaizen through the underground passageway.Every instinct told me to turn around, Every instinct told me this was a terrible idea…Unfortunately...Curiosity has always been my worst flaw.I could remember when I tailed a customer, to a secret hideout just to confirm my suspicion about a theft that occurred around the cafe where I once worked, I caught him and called the police with a private number to remain anonymous. It was risky but I still did it.And tonight, it was winning. Suddenly Kaizen stopped, His shoulders stiffened…His head snapped toward a large steel do
I knew he was planning to dodge the tutorial, The moment I stepped into the kitchen and saw him cooking at seven in the evening, I knew…Kaizen Arclair never cooked this early, not unless he was preparing to disappear.Again!I stood quietly near the hallway entrance, pretending not to watch him.The silly Jerk moved around the kitchen with suspicious efficiency…. Fast and cunning, Looking around like a thief. Eggs, Cheese, Bread, Coffee…for dinner.Everything prepared with alarming speed, Like a man trying to complete a mission before getting caught. My eyes narrowed, Suspicious….Very suspicious.Auren had returned to high school that afternoon after the weekend which means there was nobody left to stop Kaizen from vanishing into the night.Which meant, He was absolutely trying to escape before our tutorial session. And more importantly...Before telling me the truth, my irritation grew into disgust. The liar! The coward! The annoying, frustrating, secretive jerk….After making me w
The drive back to the penthouse was unusually quiet. Not awkward, not hostile, Just quiet. The kind of silence that settles after an emotional day….The city lights of Vancouver blurred outside the windows while soft music played from the speakers.Auren had fallen asleep in the backseat few minutes ago, his head rested against the window, his arms folded across his chest..For once, the energetic boy wasn't talking, the hospital had exhausted him and judging from the shadows beneath Kaizen's eyes…It had exhausted him too, I sat quietly beside him, Stealing glances occasionally.Okay.More than occasionally, the problem was...I couldn't stop thinking about everything I had seen today. The Kaizen everyone knew wasn't real, The campus kingThe rich playboy. The arrogant flirt.None of it was real.Or maybe it was, Just not all of him.. Because behind all those masks was a son fighting desperately to save his mother.A son carrying burdens nobody knew about. And somehow…..That version
The visit starts beautifully, Sylvara insists everyone stay longer. She complains that hospitals are boring as Auren immediately agrees."See? I've been saying this for weeks.""You've also been eating my snacks for weeks," Sylvara replies."That's different.""How?""Because I'm your favorite child."Kaizen snorts, "Keep dreaming."The atmosphere becomes surprisingly warm, For a moment, illness seems smaller. For a moment, they're just a family. Then Sylvara notices Nyra growing quiet."What is it, sweetheart?"Nyra hesitates, The word sweetheart almost breaks something inside her….Nobody had called her that in years, Sylvara pats the space beside her."Come here."Nyra sits Carefully, almost shyly.Sylvara smiles."Your eyes are sad."Nyra laughs awkwardly."They're always like that.""No."Sylvara squeezes her hand."Sad eyes recognize sad eyes."That nearly makes Nyra cry, trying to distract herself, she remembers something.Something she used to do whenever her mother was sick
In less than fifteen minutes, the guys were ready, I arrived ten minutes later. Auren practically dragged both of us out of the penthouse.By "both of us," I meant me and his permanently irritated older brother."I swear," Kaizen muttered while locking the penthouse door behind him, "you were dropped on the wrong family's doorstep as a baby."Auren gasped dramatically."You wound me.""I've been trying.""Violence isn't the answer.""It absolutely is."I couldn't stop the laugh that escaped me, both brothers turned toward me.Auren immediately pointed."See?""See what?" Kaizen asked."She thinks I'm funny.""No."I shook my head."I think you're annoying."Auren placed a hand over his heart."That somehow is sweeter."*****The elevator ride downstairs was surprisingly peaceful. For once, nobody was arguing, nobody was threatening anyone, nobody was accusing anyone of being a psychopath.Progress…real progress.Unfortunately, it lasted less than five minutes. The moment we reached t
That night, sleep refused to come, I lay motionless on my bed, staring at the ceiling while moonlight spilled through the glass windows of the penthouse. The room was silent….too silent.Every time I closed my eyes, Auren's voice echoed inside my head,"Mom is dying."The words wouldn't leave me alone.Neither would the look on Kaizen's face let me be. For the first time since meeting him, there had been no arrogance, No sarcasm, No smirk….Just fear.Raw and terrifying fear, The kind people couldn't fake..I rolled onto my side and buried my face into the pillow, But that only made things worse…Because suddenly...I wasn't seeing Kaizen anymore. I was seeing my mother…*****The hospital room smelled exactly the same. Medicine, disinfectant, Hopelessness…I was fifteen again, Sitting beside her bed watching machines beep around her.Watching doctors enter and leave with expressions they thought I couldn't understand.Watching her become smaller every day, Weaker every day, Further
By sunrise, Blackthorne Heights had found a brand-new hobby as usual. I'm getting used to being their favourite topic. I don't give a fuck anymore, about them destroying my reputation.Apparently, according to the latest campus rumors, I wasn't just Kaizen Arclair's tutor, I was now his secret side
Rumors traveled faster than wildfire at Blackthorne Heights, One person heard something.Told another…That person added a few details, Someone else exaggerated it…. And Boom!!! It is now a ready made gist. And before twenty-four hours had passed, an entirely different story was circulating around c
Nyra wakes around 2AM because of noises in the penthouse kitchen. She walks downstairs irritated, expecting lousy Kaizen was up to something.Instead, she found him alone.Bloody, not dramatically bloody….Worse and quietly injured. His knuckles are torn open while he washes blood down the sin
Nyra's POV The first time Kaizen Arclair ruined my life, he did it with one comment.I stared at my phone screen inside the crowded café kitchen, barely hearing the manager yell at someone behind me.“TOP SCHOLARSHIP WINNER OF BLACKTHORNE HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY.”My picture sat proudly under the headl
