LOGINNyra wakes around 2AM because of noises in the penthouse kitchen. She walks downstairs irritated, expecting lousy Kaizen was up to something.
Instead, she found him alone.
Bloody, not dramatically bloody….
Worse and quietly injured.
His knuckles are torn open while he washes blood down the sink like this isn’t unusual.
His expensive black hoodie is gone, revealing bruises spreading across his ribs and shoulder.
Nyra freezes.
Kaizen notices her instantly.
The atmosphere changes immediately, silence followed…
“Go back upstairs,” he says coldly.
Nyra refuses.
Instead, she steps closer despite her fear and notices fresh cuts along his mouth.
“Who did this to you?”
Kaizen laughs softly.
Not amused, tired…
“You ask too many questions.”
Nyra grabs the first aid kit anyway, he tries taking it from her but accidentally grabs her wrist too hard.
Now they’re close…way too close.
His breathing is uneven and shaky.
Her heartbeat is loud, tension everywhere.
“You shouldn’t touch me,” he mutters quietly.
Nyra’s eyes flick toward the bruises again.
“You’re injured.”
“No,” Kaizen says softly.
“This is normal.”
“Normal!!How's that so Kaizen?”
She asked again feeling concerned, she was carried away by sympathy
While cleaning his injuries he didn't flinch, Nyra notices a strange symbol tattooed near his ribs, like a mark.
Like belonging to something dangerous.
Before she could ask, Kaizen suddenly pulled away.
The walls return instantly.
“Forget what you saw tonight.”
Different thoughts flooded her head before she slept…..she's beginning to see the real version of Kaizen.
6:45pm
The moment Nyra stepped out of the suite that evening, laughter echoed from the penthouse living room.
Female laughter
She frowned immediately, following the sound downstairs, shock written all over my face.
Seraphina sat comfortably on Kaizen’s lap like she owned the entire penthouse. Her manicured fingers played lazily with the chain around his neck while expensive shopping bags littered the couch nearby.
Of course.
Campus Barbie herself, Kaizen looked up first.
The second his gray eyes landed on her standing near the staircase, something shifted subtly in his expression.
Not guilt, awareness…
Seraphina noticed instantly Slowly, she turned around.
Their eyes met…and just like that, the atmosphere became poisonous.
Seraphina’s gaze dragged slowly over Nyra oversized hoodie and messy curls before landing on the expensive penthouse surrounding them.
Shock flashed openly across her face, then jealousy followed immediately.
“You live here?” she asked sharply.
Nyra crossed her arms.
“Clearly.”
Seraphina laughed softly in disbelief.
“A scholarship student got assigned to the penthouse?”
Her voice was a little bit shaky. The insult beneath her tone was obvious.
Nyra smiled faintly.
“Seems the university has excellent taste.”
Kaizen covered a laugh with his hand, Seraphina’s head snapped toward him instantly.
“You think this is funny?”
Kaizen leaned lazily against the couch.
“A little.”
That was a wrong answer, it obviously got Sera pissed.
Seraphina stood abruptly and walked toward Nyra slowly, heels clicking sharply against the marble floor.
“You know,” she said sweetly, “girls like you usually stay grateful after getting opportunities like this.”
Nyra tilted her head.
“And girls like you usually confuse daddy’s money with personality.”
Absolute silence.
Even Kaizen blinked, even though he was expecting her retaliation.
Seraphina’s expression darkened beautifully.
“Oh, you’re bold.”
“No,” Nyra corrected calmly.
“I’m just not scared of entitled rich girls.”
That did it, Seraphina stepped closer aggressively…..she had taken enough of her insult.
Nyra instinctively stepped backward and accidentally collided against the kitchen counter, a A glass bottle slipped beside her.
Everything happened fast after that ... .Her balance tilted dangerously before she could hit the marble floor. Strong hands caught her instantly.
Kaizen.
One arm wrapped firmly around her waist while the other steadied her against his chest.
The room went silent, painfully silent.
Nyra’s breath caught immediately…too close, way too close.
She could smell his cologne now, Dark, Warm and dangerously addictive.
Kaizen looked down at her carefully.
“You okay?”
His voice came lower than usual, surprisingly calm and softer
And unfortunately, that made her heartbeat worse.
Nyra swallowed quickly.
“I’m fine.”
Neither of them moved immediately, a big mistake because Seraphina saw EVERYTHING.
The way Kaizen held her, the way his eyes stayed on Nyra slightly too long, the way Nyra looked flustered.
Jealousy exploded across Seraphina’s face instantly.
She marched forward and grabbed Kaizen’s arm sharply.
“Can we talk?”
Kaizen frowned slightly.
“Sera she's my ……..”
“Now.”
The sweetness in her voice had vanished completely, Kaizen released Nyra slowly before allowing Seraphina to drag him toward the balcony.
Nyra exhaled shakily the second he let go..
*****
Unfortunately, things got much worse.
By the next morning, Blackthorne Heights had already turned last night into entertainment she never expected.
Female voices suddenly echoed loudly outside the penthouse building.
“She charmed him!”
“She literally moved into his penthouse”
“Come outside, sneaky bitch!”
“She planned this”
“Leave Kaizen alone!”
“Slut”
Nyra’s stomach dropped., totally dumbfounded.
Kaizen!!
Kaizen!!,
She yelled angrily
A slow grunt echoed from his room across mine, he was still in bed sleeping peacefully……..when the noise from the chaos outside had interrupted her sleep.
Without a second thought, Nyra stormed into his room obviously pissed!!
“Wake up!! you sleepy head, your girlfriend has gone nuts”
Finally, realization dawned. ..I just barged into his room without knocking, still on my night wear….what if he was naked?
Gosh Nyra!!!
Kaizen was shocked, seeing me in my night wear for the first time ... .his bare chest with injuries still looks sexy asf…
She could see the bulge beneath his shorts…..
pervert!!
They were both lost in thought staring lustfully at each other which seemed awkward. Nyra made a mistake barging into his room like that, now she could obviously see he is drooling
“I see my enemy who sleeps across my room is trying to seduce me”.
His voice jolted me back to reality.
His mocking smirk, annoying look! He totally enjoys making me uncomfortable.
“Just wanted to let you know about the chaos, I wasn't trying to seduce you”.
Nyra replied feeling embarrassed, She could feel chills in her spine…
“The sheriff will dismiss them, I already placed a call”
Immediately, The sheriff on duty at the penthouse intervened before things got worse….
So he heard everything…. Nonchalant Jerk!!
She shyly rushed out of his room…Kaizen sat upright admiring her backside still drooling.
“Try harder, w
hen next you wanna seduce me,” he said shamelessly.
“I hate you pervert”......
Kaizen laughed hard, pleased with her displeasure.
The phone rang long enough for the nurse to wonder if she had made a mistake. She stood inside the cramped telephone booth with the receiver pressed tightly to her ear, listening to the ringing echo through the empty line. Her fingers were still trembling from everything that had happened, but she refused to hang up.Then someone answered.“Hello?”The nurse closed her eyes because she knew that voice so we'll. “Hello?” the man repeated.“Is this Kaizen Arclair?”There was a brief silence.“Who is this?”“It’s the nurse assigned to your mother.”The silence that followed was heavier.“What the hell?”“I know what this sounds like, but you need to listen to me. I was taken from the hospital.”“Taken by who?”“I don't know.”“Where are you?”“I can't tell you.”“Then tell me something useful.”She glanced through the dusty glass beside her. The street outside looked painfully ordinary. An old woman arranged vegetables beside a shop while buses moved slowly through the road, and two boy
The memory did not arrive with noise or warning. It simply opened, clear and cold, as if someone had turned a page she had tried to keep closed. In the first life it had been a quiet afternoon in the private hospital wing. The pain had been manageable that day, so the nurses left her alone for longer than usual. Lisa lay propped against the pillows, watching the slow drip of the IV, when Claire walked in carrying a small paper bag and a soft smile.“I brought the tea you like,” Claire said, setting the bag down and pulling a chair close to the bed. She took Lisa’s hand without asking, her fingers warm and gentle. “You look a little better today.”Lisa had been glad to see her, even though her sight was too poor to notice the feigned pretence. At that point Claire was still the one person who came without making her feel like a burden. Richard visited, but his visits had started to feel careful and distant. Claire still sat close and spoke like a friend. They talked about small things
The nurse stared at the man standing in front of her, her wrists still aching from the restraints. For several seconds, she said nothing, allowing the silence to stretch until it became uncomfortable. Then, without warning, something inside her seemed to snap. She threw her head backward and began laughing, the sound coming out in short, broken bursts before suddenly stopping. Her eyes darted toward the corner of the room as though she had seen something standing there.“They're coming,” she whispered. The masked man frowned. “Who?”She pointed toward the empty corner with a trembling finger. “Can't you see them?”Another laugh escaped her lips, louder this time. “They've been watching you too.”The men exchanged uncertain glances. The nurse lowered her head and allowed her shoulders to tremble violently before beginning to hum the same three notes repeatedly. She made the tune soft at first, almost absent-minded, then gradually louder until the man questioning her stepped closer.“Wh
“Kaizen, I think we need to talk.” The way the young doctor said it made the room feel smaller. Kaizen looked up from his phone. He had been staring at the screen for almost a minute, waiting for the nurse to return his call, but the silence had already begun to feel wrong. His mother was resting on the sofa nearby, her eyes closed while Nyra sat beside her, quietly watching the doctor.“What did you find?” Kaizen asked. The doctor did not answer immediately. He looked down at the results again, then at Sylvara.“There is something unusual in her blood.”Kaizen straightened.“What kind of unusual?”“I am not ready to give you a definite answer yet. I need another sample and a more specific toxicology screen before I can identify exactly what we are dealing with.”The word hung in the room, Toxicology. Nyra's expression changed which Kaizen noticed. “You said this wasn't just her original condition.”“It doesn't look like it.” The doctor placed the report on the table. “Her weakness,
The room had gone unusually quiet after Anonymous’s son finished examining Sylvara. He stood beside the bed with his tablet in one hand, scrolling through the results while Kaizen watched him closely. Nyra sat near the window, her arms folded across her chest, but she had been listening to every word.“Something is wrong,” the young doctor finally said.Kaizen’s expression tightened. “You said that already. Tell me what you found.”Anonymous’s son looked at Sylvara before answering. “Her current symptoms do not completely match her original condition. The weakness, the fluctuations in her blood pressure, the repeated episodes of dizziness and the way her body has responded to treatment suggest that something has been interfering with her system.”Kaizen stepped closer. “Interfering how?”“I need more tests before I can give you a definite answer, but there are signs that she may have been exposed to something repeatedly.”Nyra’s brows pulled together. “Exposed to what?”“That is what
The nurse had received the first message on a quiet afternoon almost six weeks ago.At first, she hadn't thought much of the unknown number. She was used to receiving messages from patients, doctors, pharmacists and hospital staff, so when her phone vibrated while she was preparing Sylvara's medication, she simply glanced at the screen.Unknown Number: There has been an adjustment to Mrs. Sylvara Arclair's medication. Follow the instructions that will be sent to you Her brows pulled together. She typed a reply.Who is this? The response came almost immediately.Someone authorized to make sure her treatment continues properly. The attending physician is aware. The nurse hesitated.Something about the message felt strange, but the information that followed looked convincing. The sender knew Sylvara's full name, her condition, the medication she had been prescribed and even the dosage she had been taking. A second message arrived with what appeared to be an updated schedule. She stared a
Nyra's pov I noticed the smell first, Coffee, Warm bread…Something expensive. Then I realized, this definitely wasn't my room.My eyes snapped open.Gray walls, dark furniture, huge windows overlooking Vancouver, a guitar by the wall and a familiar black hoodie on a chair. My stomach dropped…Oh
“Absolutely not.”Kaizen leaned back in the chair like the Vice chancellor’s office bored him physically.Stuck in the same room as Kaizen Arclair while faculty deens discussed his failing grades like it was a national emergency.Kaizen looked completely unbothered by the entire conversation, like
Nyra's pov Attending the Blackthorne Heights Freshers Gala was probably a terrible idea, Whiich was exactly why I went. The entire campus had been talking about the party since morning. Apparently it was less of a “welcome event” and more of an elite social parade where rich freshmen showed
Nyra's POV The first time Kaizen Arclair ruined my life, he did it with one comment.I stared at my phone screen inside the crowded café kitchen, barely hearing the manager yell at someone behind me.“TOP SCHOLARSHIP WINNER OF BLACKTHORNE HEIGHTS UNIVERSITY.”My picture sat proudly under the headl
