The gunshot at the harbor club was only just the beginning.

Oren Gallamor and James Reeves barely made it back to the castle before the full weight of Harry Vida’s threat crashed down on them. The wedding was now less than 48 hours away, but the air felt like it was already poisoned.

Oren paced the east wing library like a caged animal. James stood by the fireplace, watching her with exhausted, obsessive eyes.

“I didn’t kill your mother,” he said suddenly, voice rough.

Oren stopped pacing. “What?”

James pulled out his phone and played a different recording, one his men had recovered from a hidden server. The voice was Harry Vida’s, clear and cold.

“I fed Reeves the evidence. I'm pretty sure he believes Mireille has been selling us out. He gave the order like the predictable dog he is. By the time he realizes the truth, her little girl will already be his weakness.”

Silence fell like a blade.

Oren felt the ground shift beneath her feet. “You… you didn’t order it?”

James shook his head, looking haunted. “Vida played me. He forged everything. He wanted me to carry the guilt. He wanted me broken when you finally arrived. He wanted me desperate enough to do anything to keep you.”

The twisted truth hit Oren like a physical blow.

Harry Vida hadn’t just manipulated James, he had used him as a weapon to destroy her mother and set up the perfect trap for Oren herself. The microSD card Oren carried didn’t just expose James’s empire.

It contained proof that Harry Vida had personally ordered the killing and that he had been working with Oren’s father the entire time to sell her to James as the final piece of his long game.

Oren’s hands trembled as she pulled the real card from the locket and handed it to James.

“Play it,” she said. James plugged it in. The recording was devastating.

Harry Vida’s voice filled the room: “Mireille is getting too close to my connection with Reeves’ inner circle. Kill her. Make it look like Reeves did it. Then deliver the girl. She’s the perfect poison.”

James stared at the screen, face pale with fury.

“He played me,” he whispered. “He made me believe I killed your mother so I would be emotionally chained to you. So I would do anything to keep you. So I would never question where the real threat was coming from.”

Oren felt sick. All her rage toward James had been built on Vida’s lie.

And now the real monster was coming for them both, armed with the wedding as the perfect stage.

James turned to her, eyes burning with a new, terrifying intensity. “Marry me tomorrow. Not because I own you. I really do want to. But because we’re going to destroy him together.”

Oren stared at him, heart pounding.

The man she had hated for days. The man she thought had murdered her mother, was suddenly the only person standing between her and the real devil.

She stepped forward and kissed him hard. This time there was no anger in the kiss. Only raw, desperate need and the terrifying realization that they were now truly bound by blood and lies.

James lifted her onto the desk, hands sliding under her dress as he kissed her like a man drowning. Oren wrapped her legs around him, fingers digging into his shoulders, hating how right it felt.

When they finally broke apart, both breathing hard, James pressed his forehead to hers. “Tomorrow,” he whispered. “We get married. And then we go to war.”

Oren nodded slowly, but inside, a cold, steely conviction settled over her.

She had been played too, manipulated by Harry Vida just like James had been. The realization burned through her like acid. Her mother’s death, her father’s betrayal, her own sale. All of it part of Vida’s long game.

“I’ll do anything,” she whispered against James’s lips, voice dark and resolute. “Anything to get Harry Vida. I don’t care what it costs. I want him destroyed.”

James pulled back slightly, eyes gleaming with fierce pride.

“Now that’s my queen,” he murmured, thumb brushing her cheek with something close to reverence. “you sound ruthless and unbreakable. Ready to burn the world down.”

For the first time, he looked at her not just with obsession, but with genuine pride; the pride of a king who had finally found his equal.

The rooftop wind howled like a dying animal as Harry Vida lowered his gun, smiling at Oren with something almost tender. “You still don’t understand, do you?” he said softly. “I didn’t just kill your mother. I CREATED you. I am your FATHER”Oren’s finger froze on the trigger. Not the news she was expecting for sure.James stood rigid beside her, rain streaming down his face, gun still trained on Vida. “What the fuck are you talking about?”Vida laughed, low and genuine. “Well, I was your mother’s lover long before your so-called father entered the picture. She got pregnant. I told her to get rid of it. She refused. So I let her keep you… as long as she stayed useful. When she started digging into my dealings with Reeves’ empire, I had to remove her. Cleanly.”Oren felt the world tilt violently. The gun in her hand suddenly felt impossibly heavy. “You’re my father?” she whispered.Vida’s smile widened. “Blood calls to blood, daughter. That’s why I made sure James would become obsessed

The wedding day arrived beneath a sky heavy with storm clouds.Black luxury cars lined the circular driveway of the Reeves estate while armed guards patrolled every corner like soldiers preparing for battle instead of a ceremony. Inside the castle, chandeliers glowed gold against marble floors, but beneath the beauty lurked tension sharp enough to cut skin.Everyone knew something was coming. No one knew death had already entered the building.Oren stood in front of the mirror in the bridal suite, staring at herself in silence. The dress was breathtaking, black silk stitched with silver embroidery that shimmered like moonlight. The long sleeves hugged her arms while the back plunged low, exposing skin like temptation itself. She looked less like a bride and more like a queen being prepared for war.Behind her, two women adjusted the train carefully before leaving without a word. The moment the door closed, Oren’s expression changed. Cold. Focused. Dangerous. She reached beneath the va

Oren Gallamor stood on the rooftop terrace the next night, wind whipping her hair as she stared at the dark Atlantic below. The message from Harry Vida still burned in her mind.'Bring me what your mother hid, or I release everything.'James Reeves stepped behind her, his presence like heat against the cold night. He didn’t touch her. Not yet.“You’ve been avoiding me,” he said quietly.Oren turned, eyes hard. “You murdered my mother. Forgive me if I’m not in the mood for wedding planning.”James’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t look away. “I know what I did. And I know nothing I say will make it right. But Harry Vida is using you as a weapon against me. He wants that card. He wants you broken. I won’t let him have either.”Oren laughed bitterly. “You won’t 'LET' him? You’re the reason any of this is happening.”The tension between them crackled like lightning. James moved closer, backing her against the stone railing. His hand came up to grip her chin, firm but not painful.“I’m offeri

Oren Gallamor didn’t speak to James for two full days. She stayed locked in the east wing, refusing meals, refusing conversation, refusing to even look at him when he came to the door. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw her mother’s face. Every time she breathed, she remembered James’s confession. He had ordered the hit.The man who claimed her so obsessively was the same man who had ended her mother’s life.On the third night, James stopped knocking politely. He unlocked the door and stepped inside without permission, carrying a tray of food and a bottle of wine. His eyes were tired, shadowed, but the obsession still burned bright.“You can’t avoid me forever,” he said quietly.Oren stood by the window, arms wrapped around herself. “Watch me.”James set the tray down and approached slowly, like she was a wounded animal. “I know what I did. I know there’s no excuse. But Harry Vida played us both. He fed me lies about your mother being a threat. I believed him because I was protec

Harry Vida. He was a serpent in human skin, the the kind of man who smiled warmly while sliding a knife between your ribs. He lied with effortless charm, made you believe he was your ally, then pulled the rug out from under you when it benefited him most. Oren had heard her mother speak of him once as a “trusted friend” in the underworld. That friendship, she suspected, had cost her mother her life. The next morning, James kept his word. They drove down from the cliffside castle under heavy guard. His hand rested possessively on Oren’s thigh the entire ride. The silver locket felt like a live grenade in her pocket. When they reached her father’s decaying apartment, Oren moved quickly. She pried up the loose floorboard and retrieved the locket. Relief flooded her until she opened it in the car. The microSD card was gone. Her blood turned to ice. She didn't spiral. Only chaotic silence and thoughts running wild. That night, back in the castle, everything shattered.James received a cal
