Chapter 3

The air inside Lorenzo's office turned deathly still.

He stared at Lux, emotions churning in his dark eyes. "Lux, I never wanted you dead."

She almost laughed.

He had been the one who pushed her out there in the first place.

He had also been the one who broke his promise and never sent anyone to rescue her.

And now that she had somehow made it back alive, he still had the nerve to stand there and claim he had never wanted her dead.

Without responding, she simply pushed the documents on the desk closer to him.

Lorenzo picked up the divorce papers, tore them cleanly in half, and tossed them into the trash.

"Lux, I understand that surviving something like that has left you emotionally unstable. But everyone has limits. Stop testing my patience."

He leaned back in his chair, his tone carrying the familiar authority of a Don used to having the final word.

"I promised you before: the position of Donna of the Antara family will always belong to you."

Did he really think she cared about a title like that?

Back then, she had fallen hopelessly in love with Lorenzo not because he later became Don of the Antara family, nor because of the jewels, power, or status he gave her.

It was because, in the Vitale family where everyone treated her like an outsider, he had been the only one to ever ask her:

Why are you unhappy today?

But now, his heart no longer belonged to her.

And if Lorenzo refused to sign the papers, then she would force his hand.

That same night, Lux met her best friend Laura at a bar.

The moment Laura saw her, her eyes turned red with emotion as she threw her arms around her.

"I knew you wouldn't die that easily!"

The flashing lights blurred together overhead.

Lux danced until she was completely exhausted before finally returning to their booth and draining her glass of whiskey in one burning gulp.

"The thing I asked you to investigate?"

Laura immediately sent a file to her phone.

"Bianca's pregnancy records from a private clinic. She's already four months pregnant. If you count the dates, she got pregnant before your accident."

Lux stared at the report for a long time.

Those glaring numbers felt like a slap across the face.

Her stomach twisted with nausea.

So Lorenzo had already been sharing Bianca's bed long before she disappeared.

Laura reached across the table and squeezed her hand.

"If this gets out, the consequences will be huge. Both the Antara family and the Vitale family will turn against you.

"And when that happens…"

Lux looked up with a faint smile, though the coldness in her eyes was terrifying.

"The thing Lorenzo cares about most was never me. It's his reputation.

"If I don't stab him where it hurts, how will he ever bleed?"

After three years of marriage, she knew Lorenzo too well.

She would never allow Bianca to keep that child.

And as for Lorenzo himself, she was done with him too.

Near dawn, Lux returned to the Vitale family estate, the scent of alcohol still clinging to her clothes.

The moment she walked in, Don Vitale was already seated in the main hall, his face dark with anger. He slammed his cane heavily against the marble floor.

"You just came back and already you're running off to bars and demanding a divorce from Lorenzo. Have you not humiliated this family enough?"

Bianca sat beside him and immediately spoke in a gentle voice.

"Papa, don't blame Lux. She's hurting. It's understandable if she wants a drink."

Lux could not even be bothered to look at her. She started toward the stairs, only for her father's cold voice to stop her.

"I'm warning you. Stop making a scene about this divorce.

"The Antara family is still willing to keep you around, and that alone is already giving the Vitale family respect.

"Otherwise, after being kidnapped for ninety-nine days, who knows whether you…"

He did not finish the sentence.

However, Lux understood perfectly.

He was questioning whether she had already been violated during her captivity.

So even her own father thought this way about her.

No wonder Lorenzo had cheated so shamelessly.

Lux slowly turned back, her gaze icy.

"Wouldn't divorce be better? Then Lorenzo can finally marry the daughter you actually care about.

"Or what? You want your future grandchild to be born an illegitimate b*stard hidden from the public?"

"Lux!" Her father's face darkened with fury. "She's your sister!"

Lux laughed.

"A sister who climbed into her brother-in-law's bed? Is that the Vitale family tradition now?"

Her father's chest rose violently with anger.

Lux suddenly thought that if the DNA test had not proven they were biologically related, Don Vitale probably would have shot her already.

She turned and walked upstairs without another word, returning to the room that used to be hers.

She had barely changed clothes when her phone buzzed several times in succession.

It was Bianca.

Five photos.

In every single one, Lorenzo was kneeling in front of the sofa with his ear pressed against Bianca's stomach, his expression impossibly gentle.

A message followed beneath them:

[Lux, the Don already loves this child very much. There's no way you'll be able to get rid of it.]

Lux stared at the message for several seconds before letting out a cold, expressionless smile.

Bianca thought this would provoke her.

Even if she no longer wanted Lorenzo, she would never let the two of them live happily together.

At the same time, Laura sent another message.

Several paparazzi outlets and financial media companies were willing to buy the photos, but they wanted one more thing: proof establishing the timeline.

Without hesitation, Lux forwarded Bianca's pregnancy report along with the photos.

She did not need to destroy Lorenzo all at once.

She only needed to tear open a single crack and let the city begin to doubt.

To doubt whether the grieving Don who wept before his dead wife's grave was truly heartbroken...

...or simply performing for the world.
