Chapter 2

Author: Sarah Lane
Killian paused for a moment, but he quickly burst out mocking laughter, "Sierra, you're just a stubborn old mule. Stop faking it. I won't mistreat my own child, anyway."

He pulled out a wad of cash from his pocket and slapped it hard against my face, "Look at how shabby you and your daughter are! Take it and buy some decent clothes.

Don't embarrass me."

With that, He put his arm around Vivienne and strode away arrogantly.

I lowered my head, looking at my dust-covered orange vest, and silently cursed him for being a snob.

What Killian didn't know was that the short-sleeved shirt I was wearing underneath was a custom style by the top brand Cortieri‌, worth $150,000. The seemingly ordinary cartoon jacket on my daughter was also incredibly expensive.

In fact, there were many things that Killian had no clue about. I had remarried and had my daughter four years ago. There was absolutely no chance of me remarrying him. Besides, picking up trash right now was simply for the sake of an environmental protection campaign.

Just then, my phone's exclusive ringtone chimed. On the phone, a husky male voice came through, "Honey, you must work hard on the inspection tour. I have a private lounge there. You can take our daughter and go rest. Don't tire yourself out."

“Mhm.” I nodded.

"My work doesn't end until this afternoon. I miss you so much and can't wait to see you."

Hearing my husband’s spoiled, affectionate tone, a wave of sweetness surged in my heart.

Hanging up the phone, I led my daughter to the lounge. But before I could even open the door, I heard ambiguous panting coming from inside at the entrance. I carefully pushed the door open, only to find Killian and Vivienne locked in a tight, passionate embrace on the sofa. I hurriedly covered my daughter's eyes and ears.

Killian, embarrassed and enraged, grabbed a tea cup at hand and hurled it at me, "Who let you in? Is this a place a beggar like you can just waltz into? This isn't any place for the beggar like you to be."

The glass shattered against my forehead, raising an instant lump. The pain made stars dance in my vision.

Several project managers rushed over, apologizing to Killian in a servile tone, "We are so sorry, Mr. Killian. It was our negligence. We'll get her out of here right away."

They immediately grabbed my hands, trying to drag me out.

I angrily shook off their hands and ranted, "This lounge was prepared for me! Who gave you the nerve to kick me out?"

The lounge fell into a heavy silence. A moment later, they erupted into mocking laughter. Seeing that no one believed me, I was about to take out my phone to verify my identity. But Killian strode over, snatched my phone, and smashed it onto the floor.

"You must be daydreaming. This lounge belongs exclusively to the godfather, Nicolas Voss‌. I can only bring myself to stay here for a short time on official business. Who do you think you are? You think you have the right to come and go as you want around here?”

Several pot-bellied men looked me up and down. They asked, "Mr. Killian, who is she?"

Killian replied with a casual air, "Just a poor wretch who was tried in vain to change my mind."

Vivienne giggled at his words, tracing circles on his chest with her slender fingers, "Killian, how could you put him on the spot like that? You're so mean."

Enraged on by Killian's merciless insults and degradation, those managers treated me with loathing. Their vicious slander against me came in waves.

"I've dealt with trash like you a hundred times before. You are willing to do anything for money. Mr. Killian, if you don't mind, why not let me have a fun? It's been a while since I've had any action."

I clamped my hands tightly over my daughter's ears to shield her from the filth.

"You go too far! There's a child here!"

Despite my strenuous efforts, my daughter was still terrified and started crying in fear.

Killian sensed that something went wrong. He was displeased and roared, "Who told you to say such things? Do you have a death wish? "

Those men looked at each other and shut their mouths in confusion.

I have no time to bother with them. It took me so much effort to comfort my daughter in my arms. When I finally looked up, I found Killian staring at me with a complicated expression, a hint of reluctance in his eyes.

His disgusting rant only drove me further away. As the underlings dragged Killian away, his roaring voice grew fainter and fainter until it was completely swallowed by the wind.I threw myself into Nicolas's arms. He caught me effortlessly, his hands firm on my waist as he lifted me slightly. He tilted my chin up and kissed me without hesitation, claiming my lips with a possessiveness that left no room for doubt.“Hmph! Why would you waste your breath talking to rotten trash like him?” he grumbled against my lips "Not talking! It’s insulting!” I poked his chest with my index finger, shaking it playfully. “Next time you run into him, just have the underlings chase him away."“No. I don’t want see him again!” I shook my head and glanced up at him with a hint of confusion, “You will fix it?” Nicolas just gave me a soft, reassuring smile. Nicolas turned to me, his eyes instantly softening into pools of tenderness. "Sierra, how was that punishment? Did it help you vent your anger?"I nodded, my voice hoarse from the ordeal, "Just let them disappear. I never want to see them again."Without hesitation, Nicolas waved his hand in disgust. "Drag them away."Moments later, the lounge fell silent, leaving only the two of us. Nicolas buried his face in my neck, nuzzling against me like a clingy puppy, a stark contrast to the ruthless demon he had been just moments ago.His voice was thick with grievance, "Sierra, I’m sorry you had to put up with such treatment. It's all my fault." "Never mind. I’m fine now." I whispered, slightly patting his broad shoulder to soothe him.A moment later, Nicolas pulled back, his brow furrowing in displeasure as if recalling a grave error. "Sierra, you've always refused to make your identity public to keep a low profile. It's precisely for this reason that those scum had the nerve to push you a

The children were gently led away by the assistant, sparing them the grim scene to come. Moments later, Nicolas's underlings dragged in a procession of battered, bloodied managers, each beaten within an inch of their lives.Killian was in the worst state. His once-handsome face was swollen beyond recognition, resembling a grotesque pig's head. He was pressed into the ground in a daze, his soul seemingly shattered into pieces. Beside him, Vivienne wept piteously, her tears carving ugly tracks through her smeared makeup, rendering her look absolutely terrifying. The moment they were thrown onto the floor, the managers scrambled to their knees, kowtowing so violently that the thuds echoed through the room."Nicolas, we were wrong! We truly had no idea they were your wife and daughter. If we had known, we wouldn't have dared to breathe in their direction!""It’s Killian!" A person in the corner stood up, trembling as he pointed an accusing finger at Killian and Vivienne, "These two scumbag

The little boy in his arms rubbed his ears, pointing towards the office, "Daddy, I think I might be hearing my little sister's voice."Nicolas came to an abrupt halt, his sharp gaze snapping in the direction his son pointed. He rushed forward to block Nicolas, his voice trembling with feigned caution, "That's my daughter. She's being naughty and my wife is just correcting her."“Get out of the way!” Nicolas harshly pissed Nicolas off. At that very moment, the little boy in Nicolas's arms suddenly began to struggle violently. He pointed frantically at the little girl's arm exposed beneath Vivienne and shouted, "Daddy, that's sister's bracelet!"Killian's face drained of all color, turning a deathly pale.Vivienne panicked instantly, shrieking in denial, "Nicolas, your son must be mistaken. How could this little bastard possibly be…Ah!"Before she cou

Nicolas stepped out of the sedan, effortlessly scooping his son into his arms. His sharp gaze swept across the area, searching for Sierra, but she was nowhere to be found. Instead, the air was thick with the maddening buzz of flies. Killian rushed forward, bowing slightly as he laid on the flattery. "Mr. Voss, welcome to the site. The ocean trash recycling project is in its final inspection phase. We are simply awaiting your approval. When might you be available?"As he spoke, Killian's gaze landed on the little boy in Nicolas's arms. The moment he glanced at his face, an inexplicable panic clawed at his heart. There was no denying it that the Voss heir looked exactly like Sierra. He was a carbon copy of her. Killian wiped a bead of cold sweat from his forehead, forcing himself to stay calm. It must be a coincidence, he told himself. How could a despicable woman like Sierra possibly have any connection to the illustrious Voss family?Nicolas waited, but I never appeared. Irritated, h

Very quickly, a roar of laughter broke out from the crowd. "Hahaha! If she were the wife of Nicolas Voss‌, I would be the richest man in the world! She must go mad?” "Truly a pipe dream. Everyone knows the wife of Nicolas Voss is a stunning beauty. She is just a shabby beggar picking through trash. How dare she harbor such delusions?""Exactly! Nicolas only has a son. The little money-losing girl she brought isn't even fit to carry his shoes."When I was overwhelmed by the jeers, Killian violently yanked me up from the ground. "Sierra, don't bark at the moon! A towering figure like Nicolas standing at the pinnacle of the pyramid won’t take a liking to the whore like you." Killian looked down upon me as if I were a piece of filthy garbage."If you are willing to admit your mistakes, I might give you another chance to stay by my side. But, I never expected you to be disgraceful. How dare you lust after Nicolas? Sierra, you are just as rotten and hopeless as these trashes!" As he spo
