The head of the sales division could only stare down at the floor, too afraid to speak, silently enduring the storm of scolding and anger directed at him.

From near the door, Chloe cleared her throat softly. “Mr. Westwood.”

The moment Lucas saw her walk in, he forced himself to rein in his temper. His eyes still burned with fury as he barked at the sales head, “Get out!”

The office door slammed shut, leaving a heavy silence behind. The air itself felt suffocating.

Lucas turned to Chloe. “Well? Did you find anything?”

“Yes,” she said quietly, stepping closer to his desk, her expression unreadable. “Everyone who resigned from Callahan Group… they all joined the same company.”

Lucas frowned. “I know that. But which company?”

“Sinclair Real Estate.”

“Sinclair Real Estate?” Lucas narrowed his eyes. “Which Sinclair? I’ve never even heard of that company in Boston.”

Chloe took a deep breath before answering. “It’s owned by Evelyn Sinclair.”

The words hit Lucas like a punch. He froze for a fe

The night was already late. After taking a shower, Evelyn, with a towel wrapped around her damp hair, grabbed an apple from the fridge. As she bit into it, she opened her laptop and started reviewing the company’s tender documents.A Messenger notification chimed from her phone. It was a message from Delilah.“I’m home.”Evelyn closed her laptop and replied, “Okay. Take a shower and go to bed.”“Got it. Night!”A faint smile touched her lips before she set her phone back down on the table. The next evening, Reed Group’s reception took place on the top floor of the Platinum Hotel, the most luxurious building in downtown Boston. As always, the Reeds spared no expense. The hall glittered with silver tableware and crystal chandeliers, while long tables overflowed with the best food and drinks money could buy. Even the servers looked stunning, well-dressed, elegant, almost like part of the décor themselves.“Mr. Reed has arrived!” someone near the entrance announced. In an instant, eve

Delilah looked at Evelyn with a serious expression.“I don’t think there’s anything wrong with talking about it now. Besides, isn’t it safer to pick someone we already know as our legal consultant?”Evelyn exhaled slowly. “That’s not the point, Delilah.” Her tone sharpened as she locked eyes with her friend. “You still have feelings for Harry, don’t you?”Delilah straightened up, her voice flat. “This is a professional matter. I’m not mixing personal feelings with work.”“What if I disagree?” Evelyn’s tone was calm, but there was a quiet pressure behind it.Before Delilah could respond, her gaze drifted toward the entrance of the restaurant, Harry was standing there. She took a sharp breath and glanced back at Evelyn. “Then you talk to him yourself. I can’t,” she muttered, walking into the restaurant. As she passed Harry, she gave him a brief look, one that carried too much: longing, regret, and everything she’d never said.Evelyn froze for a second when she saw Harry approaching. Evelyn stayed calm, barely flinching at the sarcastic tone dripping from Camilla’s voice.“I just don’t get it,” she said flatly. “Miss Summers said this dress was inappropriate, but she wants to try it on herself. So which one’s inappropriate, the dress, or the person wearing it?”Camilla smiled, clearly pleased with herself, her expression relaxed but smug.“Doesn’t matter what you say. You already lost, Evelyn. When Sebastian and I get married, I’ll make sure you get an invitation.”“So I should thank you for your generosity, huh?”“Of course. People who know their place are usually wiser. No one who goes against me ends up doing well. Anyway, this dress? I’ll take it.”She waved at the sales clerk.“Wrap it up, I’ll pay for it now.”The clerk hesitated. “I’m sorry, but I can’t just...”“You don’t understand what I said?” Camilla snapped. “I said I’m buying it.”But Evelyn cut in, her voice calm, yet sharp enough to slice through the tension.“Camilla Summers, I don’t remembe

Even though Madison wasn’t working, her social circle was still wide. She had plenty of connections who kept in touch with her. She looked at Chloe with a calm expression that carried a deeper meaning.“The problem with Lucas right now is that the board thinks he’s incompetent, right? If you can help him land a big project and shut them up, my uncle won’t be able to do anything.”Chloe looked at Madison hopefully. “You have a way? Why didn’t you say so from the start?”Madison’s lips curved into a faint smile. “I do, but nothing in this world comes for free. There’s always a price to pay.”Her tone was soft, but her eyes slowly swept over Chloe from head to toe. “You’re still young, Chloe. While you’ve still got that charm, there are a lot of things you can get more easily.”Chloe didn’t catch the hidden meaning behind her words. Her face lit up with enthusiasm instead. “If it can help Lucas and save Callahan Group, I’ll do whatever it takes.”Madison gave a faint smile, though there

At Reed Group Headquarters, Boston.“Excuse me, did you make an appointment? The Marketing Director, Mr. Nathan, isn’t in the office today.”The receptionist’s tone was polite but firm, enough to stop Evelyn Sinclair right in front of the desk.Delilah, standing beside her, let out a quiet scoff. “It’s pretty obvious they don’t want to see us.”Evelyn frowned. “Not necessarily. Let’s wait for the outcome before jumping to conclusions.”“Anna’s been here three times, and she’s never met anyone. You really think there’s still an ‘outcome’ to wait for?” Delilah shot her a skeptical look. “If you ask me, you should just go talk to Sebastian directly.”“No way.”“Why are you so damn stubborn? The shortcut’s right in front of you, and you’d rather take the long way around. If you just talk to Sebastian nicely, wouldn’t that increase your chances of getting the project?”Evelyn looked at her for a moment, her voice calm. “Everything has its time, Del. I don’t mix personal matters with work.

Boston, Massachusetts“Ding...”The doorbell snapped Evelyn out of her thoughts. She turned toward the sound, frowning slightly. Who would be here this early?“Miss Evelyn Sinclair?”“Yes, that’s me,” she said, opening the door.A delivery guy stood on the porch, polite smile in place as he handed her a small box. “Got a package for you. Mind signing here?”“Thanks.” Evelyn took the pen and signed. When she handed it back, the courier hesitated with an apologetic look. “Sorry about the delay. The previous courier had some issues, so your package got held up for over a month. Hope it’s not a problem?”Evelyn offered a faint smile. “No problem.”She got deliveries all the time. A late one here or there hardly registered anymore. Closing the door, she glanced at the box in her hands. A month ago? I don’t even remember ordering anything. Before she could open it, a faint burnt smell wafted in from the kitchen.“Oh, crap.” Evelyn rushed toward the stove. The kitchen was already hazy with s
