Today they were solving old Mathematics question papers. Mandy, Pretty,Cindy and Mandy were sitting around a circle solving the problems.
There was one particular equation they had been working on for sometime and could not come up with an answer. They were tired and were taking a break, except for Thandi who could not stop until it was solved. This was an obsession of hers. A problem must be solved, no matter how long it takes.
The door suddenly opened and S’bu walked in carrying a tray. On it was juice and biscuits.
Beautiful Ladies, I thought I should bring you refreshments since you working so hard, he said with a breathtaking smile.
They looked up at him. Mandy was furious, Pretty and Cindy were blushing. S’bu was handsome and his physique drove girls crazy and today he was wearing a tight vest that was showing his physique.
He actually brought them refreshments, smiled at them and called them beautiful. Pretty and Cindy could not believe it and could not stop blushing. S’bu scanned girls in the study and put the tray on the table. Before he turned to leave he was stopped by Pretty who asked him with puppy eyes if he could help them solve the problem they were struggling with. Normally he would not miss the opportunity to flirt especially when a girl started it but this time someone had caught his eye.
Mandy was helpless, this was deja vu. Pretty was flirting with her brother like many of friends had done in the past. Cindy looked like she was under a spell and Thandi was in her own world and not helping her at all.
Thandi was so focused on solving the equation in front of her that she did not even see S’bu come in nor did she hear the conversation in the room.
I got it, I got it, Thandi shouted as she got up and jumped with joy. Unfortunately she landed on Cindy’s school bag that was on the floor and stumbled. Before she fell on the ground she was caught by S’bu with one arm. They stood facing each other with S’bu’s arm around her waist. He was taller than her so her feet did not touch the ground. The scene looked intimate. She lifted her eyes and thanked him. However S’bu did not put her down, he looked at her in the eyes and said” Hi. I’m S’busiso (which means blessing). You can call me S’bu” and still did not put her down.
I’m Thandi, she said avoiding eye contact and tried removing his arm around her, signalling him to put her down.
Nice to meet you Thandi, S’bu said with a dazzling smile as he put her down.
Get out S’bu, Mandy said angrily glaring at her brother.
He gave Mandy a smile and left the study. He closed the door and stopped. Something was wrong. He’s done this multiple times and very good at it but why was his heart pounding?
Inside the study the atmosphere was awkward. Mandy was still angry, Pretty and Cindy were bubbling about how handsome S’bu was. Thandi was still excited about her calculations and wanted everyone to snap out of it.
When they were leaving Mrs J called Thandi back, she had some documents for Noli. Unfortunately when Thandi was about to leave Amahle, Mandy’s 3 year old niece had woken up from her afternoon nap. Amahle was very fond of her and would refuse to let her go. Thandi had to hide or run fast when leaving Mandy’s home. It was a routine that both Mandy and Mrs J had gotten used to.
Thandi did not expect to meet anyone on the driveway, Amahle was coming her way so she ran out fast but staggered on S’bu. They both almost tumbled down. Their eyes met again. Thandi’s heart was racing and she was breathing fast from running but to Mandy and Menzi who were spectators they looked very intimate.
Twice in one day, it must be fate. S’bu said smiling at her. He was so close to her she could feel his breath. She blushed, stood up fast and pushed him away then she met Mandy’s gaze.
Don’t worry Mandy, I don’t want Gebbie or Gibberish, she said and ran home.Mandy understood what she meant, she looked her brothers and laughed so hard they remained amazed and confused.
S’bu and Thandi were inseparable from the day she was discharged from the hospital. They were spotted a multiple times walking holding hands, sharing ice cream at their favourite ice cream shop with their children. Thandi’s relationship with Dlamini and Jobe family had also improved.S’bu and Menzi’s relationship was even better than before. They literally spent every other day in each other’s homes just like they did growing up. Menzi brought Joy every time he came until her fear of marriage subsided after witnessing how in love S’bu and Thandi were after everything they went through. Thandi was happy to gain a new friend and they soon discovered that they had a lot in common. Their relationship made Mandy and Cindy uneasy as they felt that they were loosing Thandi to Joy and it didn’t help that they betrayed her. It’s
S’bu and his cousin were still sitting sitting down the hill when they heard a familiar voice. It’s good to know that you will actually mourn for me, it said.Thandi? S’bu said rubbing his eyes. Did he wish Thandi was there so much that he started imagining her talking to him?No, it’s my ghost, who-ooh, she said laughing, sitting next to him.Thandi, he called her name again, touching her face. You are here, he said kissing her.How is this possible? Sbu’s cousin asked, puzzled. We all saw your car exploding. When the truck knocked my car off the road, it was caught by those tree branches for few minutes before it started rolling down. I managed to get off in time and held on the tree but I lost my balance
The following day, Thandi went to see S’bu in his office. The JC staff were exceptionally friendly to her. It was well known that S’bu had transferred everything to her, including JC. It was also common knowledge that the judge had to authorise their salaries until the divorce process was completed. This meant that Thandi had the authority to hire and suspend anyone and might be responsible for signing off their salaries in the future. When Thandi reached the CEO’s floor, Sbu’s PA’s did not try to stop her. They were so friendly, they even offered her coffee.MaDlamini, it is great to see you, S’bu said lovingly.Don’t try to flatter me, she said sternly.I am just happy to see you, he said charmingly.I have made my decision about the research. I will come bac
S’bu drove Thandi and Amahle home. Thandi was silent all the way listening to Amahle venting about the journalists. When they got home, Amahle got off the car, leaving her parents behind. Is what the journalists said true about the research sponsor? Thandi asked without emotion.Yes, it is. Luke, the mentee left three months after you resigned. His report back stated that there was no progress on the research since you left. The sponsor decided that it made sense to pull off the sponsor and give it to whichever company you decide to work with, he explained.Okay, she said, opening the car door.Thandi, he called, holding her hand.Don’t touch me, you have no right, she said coldly and got off the car.
S’bu and Mr J were walking in the garden.Listen son, I know you are sorry and you want to fix things. These are my suggestions. You have to publicly apologise because you publicly hurt and humiliated her. You need to fix what you destroyed starting with her home you burnt down in the village. Thandi was never interested in your money, transferring everything you own in her name will not win you any points. You will get to her back by focusing on what she loves the most, that’s Sipho and Amahle. I know that you and Sipho are now inseparable. Now you have to win Amahle over as well. If you succeed, you will have your wife back.I have started building the house in the village, I am doing my best to make sure that it is exactly the way it was. It should be completed soon, S’bu said. Amahle hates me, I can see it in her eyes. I d
Thandi and Amahle were standing outside the court waiting for S’bu to come out with Sipho when Cindy and Tsepo approached them.Thandi, Tsepo said coming to hug her.I don’t think you should do that, your wife is not comfortable with me around you, Thandi said avoiding Tsepo’s hug.Seriously! Tsepo exclaimed, giving Cindy a cold look.I’m sorry, I believed Jane and said mean things to Thandi, Cindy said, ashamed. She is the only person that believed you when you were accused of being a blackmailer and you couldn’t return that favour, Tsepo said, disappointed. It’s okay,
