Vanya POV

I stood in front of my bedroom mirror on Sunday morning, trying on the third dress I had considered for lunch with Nina and her son. After everything Nina had told me about him, I found myself genuinely curious to meet this successful but lonely man who seemed to share so many qualities with Richmond.

The coincidence of their names still bothered me, but I had convinced myself it was just that - a coincidence. Richmond was not an uncommon name, and there were probably dozens of men named Richmond in Sacramento's business community.

Besides, the Richmond I was dating worked at a restaurant and lived modestly, while Nina's son owned a major real estate company and several restaurants. They could not possibly be the same person.

I finally settled on a elegant black dress with a silk scarf that struck the right balance between respectful and stylish. I was meeting Nina's son as a favor to her, not as a potential romantic interest, so I wanted to look appropriate without sending

Marcus POVI was reviewing case files in my office Monday morning when my assistant knocked on my door with an urgent expression."Mr. Thompson, Vanya Reed is here to see you," she said. "She seems very upset and says she needs to talk to someone immediately."I set aside my work and told her to send Vanya in right away. When she walked through my door, I could see that something terrible had happened. Her eyes were red from crying, her usual confident posture was gone, and she looked like she had not slept all night."Vanya, what is wrong?" I asked, standing up to guide her to the chair across from my desk."Marcus, I need a friend right now," she said, her voice breaking. "I found out yesterday that Richmond has been lying to me about everything.""What do you mean lying about everything?"She told me the whole story about the lunch at Chez Laurent, about discovering that Richmond was actually Nina's billionaire son, about realizing that every conversation they had shared about mone

Nina POVI sat alone at the corner table of Chez Laurent, staring at the untouched wine glasses and the beautiful flower arrangement I had so carefully selected, trying to understand what had just happened. The lunch I had planned as a perfect introduction between two wonderful people had turned into a disaster that left both of them upset and angry. The other diners were still glancing in my direction, probably wondering why a well-dressed woman was sitting by herself at a table set for three, looking like she might start crying at any moment."Mrs. Fernandez, is everything alright?" our server asked gently, approaching the table with concern. "Would you like me to box up the meals that were ordered?""No, thank you," I said quietly. "I think we are finished here."But I could not bring myself to leave yet. I needed to process what I had witnessed between Richmond and Vanya, and I needed to understand my role in whatever had gone wrong. When I had called Richmond yesterday to tell h

Vanya POVI drove home from Chez Laurent in a daze, my hands shaking so badly I had to pull over twice to collect myself. The image of Richmond walking into that restaurant like he owned the place kept replaying in my mind, and each time it felt like a fresh betrayal. When I finally made it to my house, I went straight to my bedroom and collapsed on my bed, still wearing the black dress I had chosen so carefully for what I thought would be an innocent lunch with a stranger. But it had not been a stranger. It had been the man I trusted more than anyone else in the world, revealing himself to be someone completely different from who I thought he was.I stared at the ceiling and tried to make sense of what had just happened. Richmond was not a humble restaurant worker struggling to make ends meet. He was Richmond Fernandez, owner of Fernandez Real Estate, one of the wealthiest men in Sacramento.Every conversation we had shared about money and success had been built on lies. Every time I

Richmond POVI walked into Chez Laurent feeling like I was walking toward my own execution. The elegant restaurant that I had dined at countless times before suddenly felt foreign and intimidating, because today it would be the place where I finally told the woman I loved the truth about who I really was.I had barely slept the night before, rehearsing different ways to explain my deception to Vanya. Every scenario I imagined ended with her feeling betrayed and walking away from me forever. But I knew there was no choice left. The lies had gone on too long, and she deserved to know the truth. As I approached the corner table where my mother was sitting, I saw Vanya with her back to me. She was wearing a beautiful black dress, and her dark hair caught the afternoon sunlight streaming through the windows. She looked elegant and confident, everything I had fallen in love with about her.In a few moments, that confidence would be shattered by the revelation that I had been lying to her fo

  • The Goddess of Divorce Made Me His Boss    Chapter 95

Nina POVI woke up Saturday morning with more energy than I had felt in years. After my phone call with Richmond yesterday, I could barely contain my excitement about the lunch I had arranged for him and Vanya. Everything about this situation felt perfect, like the universe had conspired to bring exactly the right woman into my son's life at exactly the right moment.I had spent most of the evening researching Goddess Jewelry online, and everything I found made me even more convinced that Vanya was the woman Richmond had been waiting for. Her designs were elegant and meaningful, her business story was inspiring, and the interviews she had given showed intelligence and grace under pressure."This is going to be wonderful," I said to myself as I got dressed in my best outfit. I had a full day of preparations ahead of me, and I wanted everything to be absolutely perfect. My first stop was Chez Laurent, the upscale French restaurant where I had made reservations for Sunday lunch. I had ch
