The twins’ cries filled the room as the midwife cleaned them. They squirmed as she handed them over to me, waving their tiny fists in the air, their wolf souls blinking into the world for the first time.

I sank back into the pillows. I was tired, exhausted and drenched in sweat. But none of it mattered anymore. As soon as they were placed in my arms, I fell in love.

A girl and a boy.

Small. Fierce. Perfect.

“Have you decided on Names, my lady?” the midwife asked softly, her hands folded, as she observed.

When I looked down at them, I felt my heart break open in ways I had never imagined possible.

“My daughter,” I whispered, brushing my fingertip over her soft cheek, “will be named Talia.”

The name reminded me of innocence and ethereal beauty, like a flower blossoming in the snow. It suited her.

“And my son…” I turned to the little boy in my other arm, his tiny face scrunched in determination. “Kael.”

The name sat heavy on my tongue.
