Chapter 19

Amelia knelt immediately beside his father. She closed her eyes too, pretending she had passed out. She had no time to think or what to say. If Maxwell saw her conscious while his father was on the floor, blood flowing out of his head, there was sure to be trouble.

"Father!" He rushed to his father first. He held his leg and then tried to shake him.

"Father!" He shook again.

His father was not moving. Maxwell tried to find out what was happening. He touched his father around until he saw his father's head. He had a cut in it. He looked out to find what had cut him.

Amelia opened her eyes a little. She had to see what was going on.

"Father, what happened?" Maxwell held his father in his arms, still trying to find out what had happened.

Maxwell had his back to her which gave Amelia an idea. What if she was to gently crawl over to the other side of the room, open the door and run outside?
