51. Struggle

Esme's POV

I winced in pain and ran my tongue over my already dry lips, taking note of the weird metallic taste that lingered. It was a haunting reminder of the intense struggle I had just endured.

Blood? I wasn't surprised.

The fight between me and the rogues that attacked us minutes ago was not an easy one.

Thankfully, they had hurried away after making sure that I was beaten to a pulp.

The tangy taste of my own blood filled my mouth, and I spat again, turning my body to face upwards while my back lay on the tarred roadside.

"This is definitely not how I imagined my day to be,” I groaned tiredly, stretching my limbs to offer some sort of relief to my aching muscles.

The sun was scorching hot, I squinted my eyes painfully to curtail the amount of sun rays entering into my pupils.

It felt like my head was on the verge of splitting into two. I could feel my heart hammering heavily against my ribcage.
