Isabella’s pov

Lately, Ethan had been scarce around the house, leaving me with idle hands and a wandering mind. Having exhausted the books at my disposal, I found myself aimlessly pacing the familiar corridors. It was then that I decided to pay a visit to his study, hoping we could sort things out.

As I approached the door, I gently rubbed my knuckles against it, pausing to lean in and listen for any sign of his presence on the other side.

I knocked lightly and waited nervously for his response.

"Come in," his voice resounded.

I hesitated for a moment, then stepped inside, closing the door behind me with a soft click. He glanced up, a mix of displeasure and surprise flickering across his face as our eyes met.

It had been a while since we'd exchanged more than a passing glance or a curt nod.

Lately, it seemed like we were worlds apart, each lost in our own thoughts and emotions, unsure how to bridge the growing divide between us.
