ADRIANO'S POV~

I woke up choking on dread.

It sat like a brick in my chest, pressing down so hard I could barely breathe. I didn’t know why, but something felt off. Wrong. My instincts had never failed me before, and I sure as fuck wasn’t about to ignore them now.

Without thinking, I reached for the Glock under my pillow, and slipped it into the waistband of my pants.

I pushed off the bed, bare feet padding silently across the marble floor. The closer I got to her room, the tighter my chest grew. My fingers curled. My jaw clenched. When I reached her door and twisted the handle… it was locked.

My jaw clenched.

I didn’t knock. I didn’t call out her name. I turned to the butler who had the misfortune of crossing my path.

“The key. Now.” I snarled.

He paled, fumbling with the spare lockpad before placing it in my palm with shaking hands.

I slid it in, heard the click, and opened the door slowly. What greeted me stopped the beat of my cursed heart.

There she was.
