Chapter 2

**Riya**

I didn’t open it in the elevator.

I didn’t open it in the cab.

I didn’t even open it when I got back to the apartment and locked the door behind me like someone might follow.

I just stood in the middle of the kitchen with the black folder clutched against my chest, breathing too hard, staring at the floor like the answer might be written there.

Dad’s machine was still hissing from the bedroom.

Same rhythm.

Same soft, wet sound.

I set the folder on the counter next to the unpaid hospital bills and the eviction notice and the letter that had started this whole mess. Then I washed my hands. Twice. Like that would somehow clean whatever had just happened on the forty-eighth floor.

My phone lit up with a new email.

Subject line: **Rajvansh – Proposed Settlement Terms**.

Of course.

I didn’t open that either.

Not yet.

I walked into Dad’s room instead.

He was asleep, or close enough. The oxygen mask sat crooked on his face. I fixed it gently, the way I always did, and sat on the edge of the bed for a long minute. His hand was still too cold. I held it anyway.

“I’m going to fix this,” I whispered.

He didn’t answer.

I went back to the kitchen, sat down hard on one of the cheap chairs, and finally flipped the folder open.

Marriage contract.

My full legal name.

His full legal name.

A wedding date three weeks from now.

And then the line that made the whole room tilt:

*In consideration of the full and final settlement of all outstanding debts owed by Dev Kapoor and Kapoor Imports LLC to the Rajvansh Group, the undersigned parties agree to enter into a legal marriage of no less than three years’ duration.*

Three years.

I kept reading.

There were more clauses. Joint assets. Spousal rights. A non-disclosure agreement so thick it could choke someone. A section about residency — I would live in his primary residence. A section about public appearances. A section about heirs that made my stomach turn.

And then, near the end, a short paragraph that wasn’t even trying to hide itself:

*This arrangement is entered into with full knowledge of the historical and financial injuries sustained by the Rajvansh family as a direct result of actions taken by Dev Kapoor and affiliated parties approximately ten years prior.*

There it was.

Revenge.

Not even dressed up.

I laughed once. It came out ugly and too loud in the quiet apartment.

Of course.

Of fucking course.

I shoved the folder away so hard it slid off the counter and hit the floor. Papers scattered. I didn’t pick them up.

My hands were shaking again. I pressed them flat against the table until the trembling slowed.

Seven million dollars.

A dying father.

An eviction notice.

And a man who wanted to own me for something my father did a decade ago.

I pulled my knees up to my chest on the chair and stared at the mess of papers on the floor.

Midnight tomorrow.

That was the deadline he’d given me.

I could refuse.

I could tell him to take the apartment, the warehouse, whatever was left of Kapoor Imports, and go to hell.

And then what?

Dad would lose the bed he was dying in. The oxygen tank. The last scraps of dignity he had left. The hospital would start calling about unpaid bills even louder. The landlord would change the locks. I would be twenty-six, unemployed, and watching the only family I had left die in a place that didn’t belong to us anymore.

Or I could sign.

Marry a man who looked at me like a debt he was collecting.

Live in his house.

Smile for cameras if he told me to.

Spend three years as the living reminder of whatever my father had done to his family.

I picked the papers up one by one and stacked them neatly again. My hands were steadier now. That almost scared me more than the shaking.

I opened the email.

The full contract was attached, just like he’d said. Same language. Same cold precision. At the bottom was a single line from Kabir Singh:

*Please confirm acceptance or rejection by 11:59 p.m. tomorrow. No extensions will be granted.*

I stared at the screen until the words started to blur.

Then I did the only thing that made any sense in a situation that made no sense at all.

I opened a new message.

To: the same email address the contract had come from.

Subject: Acceptance.

I typed three words.

Then I deleted them.

Typed them again.

Deleted them again.

My cursor blinked at me like it was waiting.

Outside, the city kept moving like nothing had changed. Cars. Sirens. Someone yelling on the street three floors down. Normal life, happening to other people.

I looked toward the bedroom door.

The machine kept hissing.

I put my fingers back on the keyboard.

**I accept the terms.**

I hit send before I could stop myself.

The message left with a soft whoosh that felt way too quiet for what it meant.

I sat there in the darkening kitchen, staring at the sent confirmation, and felt something cold settle under my ribs.

It was done.

I had just sold myself to Aryan Rajvansh.

And the worst part was that some small, exhausted part of me already knew I would have done it again.

I sat with the second phone in front of me and waited. The call arrived at 3:17 a.m.“Boss.”Raghav’s voice was flatter than usual.“Speak.”“Eastern dock warehouse. Shipment never left. Two of ours are down. One is critical. The product is gone.”“How many hit the location?”“Six. Professional. In and out in under four minutes. They knew the exact window.”“Survivors?”“Three of theirs. Holding them at the secondary site.”“Keep them breathing. I’m on my way.”I ended the call and stood.Kabir was already in the doorway. He had not gone home.“Eastern dock,” I said.“Car is ready. Detail is doubled.”I looked toward the hallway that led to the guest suite.“She stays on this floor. No exceptions. If she asks where I am, tell her business emergency. Nothing more.”Kabir nodded once.I left the apartment.---I wo

Chapter 13 — The Shape of the TruthI remained standing for a moment after the door closed. Riya sat on the edge of the bed exactly as I had left her—spine straight, hands folded, eyes steady. She was waiting.I pulled the chair from the corner and sat across from her.“The contract is three years,” I said. “Not one. The public story is that we are a newly married couple. The private requirement is that the marriage remains intact and credible for the full term. The first year is the pressure point. If we look unstable or temporary in public, it creates openings. That is why the boardroom mattered today. That is why the messages started the moment you appeared at my side.”Riya didn’t interrupt.“What you heard,” I continued, “was not corporate language. I run more than the company that carries my name. There is an organization beneath it. The men on those calls answer to me. I do not explain that structure to the board. I do not explain it to the public. Until twenty minutes ago, I d

Chapter 12 — What She Wasn’t Meant to HearThe car moved through the city like it belonged to it. I kept my eyes on the road ahead even though the driver didn’t need direction. The message sat in my pocket like a second pulse. *She performed well. Shame it won’t matter.*Riya sat beside me, quiet. The demand she had made still hung between us. *Tell me the rest. All of it.* I hadn’t answered. Not yet. There were calls that needed to be made first, and I would not have this conversation with half my attention still on the street. When we reached the private garage beneath the tower, I told the driver to wait. Security peeled off to their positions. I guided Riya into the elevator that only opened to my floor. She didn’t speak. Neither did I.Inside the apartment, the lights were already on. Kabir stood near the study door, tablet in hand, expression unreadable. He inclined his head once.“I’ll be in the study,” I told Riya. “Give me twenty minutes.”She studied my face for a second lon

The contact was brief, practical, but I felt the slight coolness of her fingers against mine before she released them. Security opened the glass doors. The lobby of the tower was all pale stone and quiet power, the kind of space designed to remind people who belonged and who did not.Riya walked beside me as if she had been doing it for years. We took the private elevator to the thirty-second floor. The silence inside was dense. I watched her reflection in the mirrored wall—chin level, shoulders set, expression unreadable. Whatever fear she had carried the night before was locked down now. I respected the control even as it unsettled me.The elevator doors opened onto the executive floor. An aide was already waiting.“They’re all inside,” he said quietly. “Your uncle arrived twenty minutes early.”Of course he had.I placed a hand at the

  • The Mafia billionaire's Revenge Bride    Chapter 10 Aryan

Chapter 10 AryanI kept seeing her the way she had been at the beginning. The first night, when she signed the contract with hands that still shook. The way her eyes had tracked every exit in the room as if she expected the walls to close in. The quiet, almost desperate calculation behind every answer she gave me—how much this would cost her, how long she could last, whether the money was worth the cage. She had looked like a woman who had already decided the world was dangerous and was only trying to survive the next hour. Then the dinner. The message. The car ride home while she tried not to shake. And now, less than twenty-four hours later, she was downstairs in my study reading the names of the people who wanted her gone, deciding she would learn them until she could recite them in her sleep. The speed of the change unsettled me more than the threat itself.I did not sleep. After I left her in the study, I went back to my rooms and stood at the window for a long time, watching th

**Chapter 9** **Riya**I didn’t sleep. The gown lay discarded on the chair like shed skin. I sat on the edge of the bed in the dark silk robe Isabel had left folded in the closet, knees drawn up, phone face-down on the nightstand as if distance could make the words less real.*You wear the dress well. Does he know someone in this room wants you gone?*Every time I closed my eyes I saw the long table, the ice-blonde woman’s polite smile, the way Aryan’s hand had tightened over mine until the bones ached. Someone had been close enough to watch me wear the dress. Close enough to enjoy the fact that I would read those words while still seated beside him.A soft knock came at 6:12 a.m.I didn’t answer. The door opened anyway.Aryan stepped inside already dressed—black shirt, sleeves rolled once, the same heavy watch. He looked like he had never needed sleep in his life. His gaze moved over the untouched bed, the gown, me.“You didn’t sleep.”“Neither did you.”He closed the door and stay
