Chapter 4

Penulis: Sticky Nine
Mitch pried open my jaw roughly and demanded that the family doctor bring a stiff, cold feeding tube, which he personally grabbed and forcefully shoved into my nostrils.

"Make her throw up everything she just swallowed. And make sure the baby is not hurt."

My throat spasmed violently. I tried to scream, but I could only manage to sob brokenly.

The stomach that he once painstakingly nurtured and helped recover was now thoroughly ruined.

I didn't know how much time had passed before they yanked out the tube from my nose like I was a dead animal. My mouth was still glistening with bile juice and vomit.

Mitch then supported my weak body and said. "Good. Finally you've got everything out."

The fear in his voice and the loss of control of his expressions felt like a knife stabbing into my heart. But the more he cared about it, the more my heart ached.

Eventually, he had the man throw me into an empty bedroom on the second floor.

Mitch then walked in with a high-resolution photograph in his hand, forcing me to look up. It was a photo of Mom, lying on the hospital floor after being forcefully discharged from the ICU, jostled and knocked over by passing patients.

A surge of emotions rushed to my head. I slapped him hard.

"You're a fucking beast, Mitch Cooley!"

I slapped him so hard that his face whipped to the side. However, a cold smile curled at the corner of his lips when he saw me in my distraught state.

"Someone needs to bear the consequences after what you did wrong. If you want your mother to stay alive, then you'd better not have any more twisted thoughts, or I won't stop at just kicking her out of the hospital ward."

Then, he left.

But I couldn't trust him anymore.

I called the hospital crying, but they told me, "We're sorry, Ms. Gardner, but Mrs. Gardner has gone missing."

My mind went completely blank. I rushed over to the door and slammed my fists against it.

"Open the door! Let me out! I need to find my mother!"

I slammed hard for a long time until my hands were bruised and bloodied, but the door wouldn't open. I stumbled back over to my phone and called Mitch, but all I heard was just the robotic voice telling me that he couldn't be reached.

Just as I was about to fall into despair, my phone buzzed with a new text message from him.

"Wait for me at the hospital."

I grabbed a chair, lifted it against the glass window, and broke it. Then, I jumped out of the window and rushed all the way to the hospital like a madwoman, trying to search for Mitch.

However, when I saw the person coming toward me, I froze in my spot, unable to move anymore.

It was Dante. Lexie's stepfather. That bastard who ruined my life.

He forcefully dragged me to the roof of the building. And to my shock and horror, the old video of me being violated by a gang of people was playing everywhere around us, showing me begging and pleading for my life.

My face paled at once. How could this be? Mitch had personally assured me that every copy of the video had been deleted back then.

Just then, I received an anonymous text message on my phone. It said, "Your mother's dead."

It was just three words, but they were enough to completely tear my heart into pieces.

I screamed in despair and disbelief. I tried to run, to cry, to struggle, to escape, but my feet remained glued to the ground and refused to work.

Dante approached me, stepping closer and closer as he wiped away the disgusting drool on his face with the back of his hand.

"What are you trying to run away for? Just take a good look at how pretty you were back then," he said with a sneer. "Lexie and her hubby told me to wait for you here. Mitch said she's pregnant again, so they don't have any more use for that thing in your stomach. I'm just sorry that I never got to fuck your mom first."

His words struck me like a thunderbolt.

Mitch? He was the one behind all this?

So, as it turned out, I was disposable trash to him after all.

I slowly lifted my head. Dante didn't see the deathly calm in my eyes. He simply licked his lips again as he reached for my pants.

At that moment, I used the last of my strength and caught him completely off guard, dragging him with me as I headed straight for the edge of the balcony.

Mitch was in his car when he heard a loud, muffled thump. When he looked up, he didn't see anything, but there was a weird stifling feeling in his chest.

He told his driver, "Drive faster."

He'd just arrived at the villa and was about to get the maid to open the second-floor bedroom when he realized that the door was unlocked. So, he went in.

"Mom?"

He was surprised to see his mother, Sarah Stanton, inside. He asked, "What are you doing here? Where's Justine? I need to talk to her."

Sarah had already stepped aside from the moment Mitch barged into the room. Mitch saw the condition of the room and staggered, nearly tripping over himself.

The 99 hills were rugged and difficult to traverse, and the thought of anyone climbing every single one of them on their knees was truly torment and humiliation. However, Mitch hung on to what I said like he was clutching at straws. He nodded at once without any hesitation."I'll go. I'll climb all of them on my knees as long as you'll just give me a second chance!"Five days later, he mustered the last bit of whatever strength he had left and slowly made his way to my doorstep. He looked at the tightly closed door and collapsed to the ground, his voice hoarse and broken and filled with exhaustion and humility."Justine… I climbed them all… I climbed all 99 hills on my knees… I did it…"His knees were so badly bruised and bleeding that he could barely stand upright. He staggered back to his feet and waited anxiously like a prisoner on death row waiting for his punishment. However, the only response he got in return was deathly silence. He strained his ears and heard the sound o

Justine's POVI was prepared to die the moment I fell off the building. However, fate shone its favor upon me. I ended up landing on the 18th-floor balcony four floors down and survived somehow.Whilst the nurses changed my dressings in the ward, I asked in a hoarse voice, "Who saved me?"The nurse was delighted to see that I was awake."You're finally awake! You're so lucky that Mr. Schmitt happened to bump into you!"Mr. Schmitt?"While staring blankly at the ceiling above me, a shadow fell over me just then, and I shifted my gaze to the person in disbelief. It was him. Caleb Schmitt.I had once been cornered by a gang of street thugs when I was younger, and I hadn't been able to get hold of Mitch on the phone. It was Caleb who saved my life back then, scaring the thugs away.He was dressed immaculately in a suit as he silently handed me a gold-embossed business card with cool fingertips."Just call this number if anyone dares to bully or threaten you again."My mind had

Lexie never expected Mitch to ask her that. Her heart dropped into her stomach as she stammered her answer, "Oh, I meant she's left you… I didn't mean that she was gone as in 'dead'…"She still thought that she'd executed everything flawlessly."Like how things used to be?" Mitch echoed her last line in a low voice. He then withdrew his arm from her hold and suppressed the anger in his eyes. "Did you really think that things between us could actually go back to how they used to be?""Of course!" Lexie said, completely oblivious to the change in his emotions. She even stomped her feet playfully and said, "You used to shower me with love the most. You'd always forgive me no matter what I did."Even if I made some mistakes in the past by accident, you'd still forgive me for everything, wouldn't you?"She eagerly waited for Mitch to answer her tenderly and lovingly, fantasizing that he would still cherish her and treat her carefully like he used to.She was so engrossed in her daydre

Lexie hesitated for a while, her eyes swirling with intense resentment and possessiveness as she stared at Mitch."Say, do you think Justine will throw a huge fit if I sleep with you tonight?"Mitch's heart pounded against his chest. He froze completely, feeling absolutely stunned. His mind was in turmoil in the dim light of the bar. He was overwhelmed with alcohol and a strange sense of disorientation, and he mistook this shadow for solace. After all, Justine had stopped having sex with him ever since that incident. And so, Mitch crossed the line with Lexie that night in a moment of heat and passion.Since then, everything began to change subtly. Mitch realized that he was having a change of heart, and he was starting to naturally notice Lexie more often. His patience and gentleness toward Justine also gradually ran out.In fact, he began giving her the cold shoulder and neglecting her. He was the one who had pushed her away from himself.Mitch gripped Justine's phone in his h

Lexie saw Mitch's bloodshot eyes and clenched fists and decided to add more fuel to the fire. She gritted her teeth and said in a trembling voice, "I'm telling the truth! Why else would Justine suddenly sign the divorce papers? Why else would she have left like this?"She's just feeling guilty toward you and can't bear facing you now. These are all traces left behind from her affair with someone else!"Mitch went silent for a long while. Finally, his anger burned the last of his rationale. He gritted his teeth and laughed through his tears. His voice was so hoarse that it sounded like he'd use sandpaper on it."Really, Justine Gardner? You dare to do this to me? Brilliant! Just brilliant!"Stop all of her mother's hospital bills! And nobody is allowed to go look for her!"Sarah looked at him in disbelief. Her face turned pale and grim when she saw her own son consumed with hatred and jealousy. Her eyes turned red, and she opened her mouth to speak."You're out of your mind! Just

The shards on the floor were stained crimson with blood, and several bits of bloody flesh even clung to them.Mitch was completely frozen to the ground. His gaze was fixed on the window. His limbs turned ice-cold, completely devoid of all warmth. He simply could not move.Sarah's face was indifferent as she looked away. Her tone was flat as if she were stating a mere fact, even though every word she said was chilling and cruel."Don't bother looking for her. Justine's dead."Mitch still hadn't recovered from his shock when he trembled again at her words. His pupils constricted abruptly.A split second later, he threw his head back and burst into guffaws. However, the corners of his eyes were pooling with tears."You're lying! What's the point of colluding with her just to lie to me?"I know that she doesn't want to give birth to that baby. Fine, then, I won't
