HARPER

~~~
Across the room, Ruby blinked. Her lips parted in feigned shock. She pressed a hand to her chest, her eyes widening with an innocent glint that made my stomach churn.
"Harper..." her voice trembled, soft and bewildered. "What... what are you talking about?"
"Don't you dare play dumb!" I snapped. "Don't stand there and play the confused victim. I see right through you."
Mason stepped forward, looking between the both of us. "Is this true, Ruby? Did you do this?"
"I didn't do anything!
    HARPER~~~Across the room, Ruby blinked. Her lips parted in feigned shock. She pressed a hand to her chest, her eyes widening with an innocent glint that made my stomach churn."Harper..." her voice trembled, soft and bewildered. "What... what are you talking about?""Don't you dare play dumb!" I snapped. "Don't stand there and play the confused victim. I see right through you."Mason stepped forward, looking between the both of us. "Is this true, Ruby? Did you do this?""I didn't do anything!" Ruby shrieked, looking around the faces in the study. "I don't know what she's talking about. She's not making any sense.""This was your plan all along!" I raised my voice, stepping around the corner of the desk to stand before her. "To make me look completely incompetent and foolish in front of the entire pack.""I don't know what you're talking about!" she yelled back, tears brimming in her eyes. "You have no right to stand there and accuse me of something so horrific without a shred of pro
    HARPER~~~The fog clinging to my mind slowly evaporated as I gained consciousness.My eyelids fluttered, weighing a ton as I forced them open. Sunlight filtered through the windows, blinding me instantly. A sharp, rhythmic throbbing hammered against the inside of my skull, sending a wave of nausea straight to my stomach.I pushed myself up on trembling arms, but my elbows nearly gave out beneath me. I sat there on the edge of the bed, my vision blurring in and out. The room spun around me in slow, sickening tilted angles.What the hell happened?My memory was completely blank. I couldn't remember sitting down. I couldn't remember falling asleep. It felt as if hours of my life had simply been stolen, wiped clean while I lay paralyzed in the dark.I forced my legs to swing over the side of the bed. The moment my bare feet touched the cold floor, a sharp head-rush made me gasp. I gripped the bedpost, willing my body to obey. Stumbling forward, I used the wall for balance and shuffled to
    DALLAS~~~The roar of the SUV echoed through the thick pine forests as I slammed my foot on the accelerator, tearing down the road toward the northern border.Beside me, Mason's jaw was set like granite, his eyes blazing furiously. Ryder sat in the back, his gaze locked on the road ahead."We haven't had a rogue attack in months," Mason muttered. "This is giving me a bad feeling.I remained silent, intent on reaching the northern border as quickly as I could.The moment I slowed to a stop outside the border, I threw the door open and bolted out Mason and Ryder right behind me. Without breaking stride, I shut my eyes and shifted.My bones expanded, snapping loudly and ripping a painful growl from my chest. Thick fur erupted from my skin, my spine hunching forward as my hands reshaped into massive, razor-clawed paws.A low, terrifying roar tore from my throat as my human consciousness fused with the primal rage of my beast. Within seconds, three enormous, Alpha Kodiak bears thundered a
  • The Rejected Wolf and Her Three WereMates   Chapter 17 : Head of Welfare
    HARPER~~~A cold, prickling sensation spread across the back of my neck when I heard Ruby's offer.A part of me wanted to believe her, wanted to believe that human beings, or shifters, could genuinely hit rock bottom and realize the error of their ways.But another, more instinctual part of me recoiled. The sudden, radical shift from a vengeful, arrogant bully to a sweet, subservient penitent was too smooth. Too convenient.Mason turned his head slightly, his golden eyes searching my face. "What do you think, Harper?"I opened my mouth, but the words caught in my throat. I knew I needed to learn the inner workings of Black Pine Springs if I was going to take over as Head of Welfare. I needed to understand the logistics, the pack ledgers, and the family dynamics. But taking lessons from Ruby felt like stepping into a gilded trap.Noticing my obvious hesitation, Ruby stepped forward, her hands folded submissively. "It's just, the Solstice Slumber is only a few weeks away. You'll need t
  • The Rejected Wolf and Her Three WereMates   Chapter 16: Assistant
    HARPER~~~I blinked, genuinely stunned. Ruby wanted to speak to me? To us? Where was all the haughty pride she had displayed the previous day?I stood there, taking in her polished outfit, her flawless hair, and her immaculate posture. For a fleeting second, a sharp knot of self-consciousness tightened in my stomach.She looked every bit the picture of effortless, high-society authority, while I was standing in a simple dress with the dust of my crushed lodge still clinging to the hem.Before the shadow of doubt could take root in my mind, a warm arm slid around my waist.I looked up to find Ryder pulling me flush against his side. His jaw was clenched so tight the muscle ticked, his dark eyes pinned on Ruby with unfiltered fury.To my right, Dallas stepped close, his posture rigid. Mason stood out front, his eyes narrowing into slits, his shoulders taut and imposing.The air turned tense as all three of the Alpha bears shifted into territorial mode, their aura wrapping around me lik
  • The Rejected Wolf and Her Three WereMates   Chapter 15 : Soul bond
    HARPER~~~My eyes snapped open, and I tore myself out of the triplets' hot embrace, spinning toward the doorway in absolute shock.Standing on the threshold was a sharp-looking man in a crisp corporate suit, rimless glasses perched neatly on the bridge of his nose. He held a leather briefcase in one hand and a thick manila folder in the other.My cheeks burned with a scalding blush. I hurriedly took two steps forward, trying to smooth down my dress and regain some semblance of dignity."I... who are you?" I stammered, my heart hammering against my ribs. "Can I help you?"Before the stranger could answer, Mason casually stepped forward, his shoulder brushing against mine as he walked past me."Roger," he called out, his voice returning to its calm, commanding tone. "Come in."The man stepped carefully over the debris on the floor, offering a respectful nod to me and a deep bow to Ryder and Dallas."Harper, this is Roger," Mason introduced, his hand coming to rest lightly on the small
