Dylan

After breakfast, Alpha Dimitri leads us into his office. The room is vast, with high ceilings that make it feel almost cavernous. Heavy mahogany furniture fills the space, giving the room an ancient, almost oppressive atmosphere. Everything looks like it’s been here for centuries, well-maintained but undeniably old. Dimitri moves to a cabinet on the side, pours five glasses of expensive-looking cognac, and hands us each a glass. The drink is rich and smoky, a stark contrast to the cold air outside.

We sit around the massive desk, and Alpha Dimitri takes his place in the large chair behind it. He sips his drink slowly, tapping his fingers on the polished wood, the sound echoing in the quiet room.

“Well,” Dimitri began, his deep voice heavy with a Russian accent, “business before pleasure, as you Americans say. Let’s discuss the reasons that brought you here.”

Nathaniel leaned forward, his tone serious. “Alpha Dimitri, our intel informed us about the man found in the forest, and we wanted to know if you could provide more details. We’ve encountered a similar situation back in New York.”

Dimitri nodded gravely. “Of course. A few weeks ago, one of our patrol teams picked up the scent of blood and decay in the woods. They followed it to a waterfall, where we found a man roughly in his forties. His heart was missing, but otherwise, there were no signs of struggle. We believe he was a rogue wolf. We’ve never encountered him before, and there are no other packs nearby.”

“Do you still have the body?” Nathaniel asked, his voice sharp.

“Yes,” Gamma Nikolai replied, his voice free of the thick accent his Alpha and Beta carry. “The body is in our morgue. I can take you there if you wish.”

We agreed, and Gamma Nikolai led us to the pack’s hospital. As we walk, I couldn’t help but comment, “Your English is impressive, Gamma. You don’t have the accent like the others.”

He offers a small smile. “Yes, my mother is from a pack in California, and I was born there. My father was the Gamma here, so I returned to Moscow after my training.”

“A fellow American,” Nathaniel remarks, giving him a nod.

The rest of the walk is silent, the air growing colder as we move deeper into the pack’s territory. Eventually, we reach an old building behind the main house. Gamma Nikolai swipes a card, and the elevator hums as we descend to the lower levels. The corridor we walk through is dimly lit, the sterile scent of antiseptic thick in the air. It’s unsettling, like the walls themselves hold secrets.

We enter a cold, clinical room where an elderly man in a lab coat sits at a small desk, reading a newspaper. Nikolai speaks to him in rapid Russian, and the man stands, nodding before moving to one of the freezers. He pulls out a body covered by a white sheet and gently rolls it to the center of the room.

When the sheet is pulled back, the sight is… familiar. Stitches crisscross the corpse, a result of the autopsy, but the gaping hole where the heart should be is the most striking feature. My eyes scan the body, moving from the feet to the face, and something in the man’s features sends a chill down my spine. A strange familiarity.

I glanced at Nathaniel and saw the same confusion mirrored in his eyes.

“Gamma Nikolai,” I said, my voice steady despite the unease crawling through me, “can you ask him to turn the body around?”

Nikolai repeats the request in Russian, and the doctor complies, carefully turning the body. As the corpse shifts, something catches Nathaniel’s eye.

“What’s that on his shoulder?” he asked, his tone sharp.

We both step closer, inspecting the body. There, just above the shoulder blade, is a mark. It’s faint, almost burned into the skin. But it’s not just a burn - it’s a symbol. A symbol I recognize immediately.

The Crimson Rose crest.

I look at Nathaniel, and the shock in his eyes tells me he’s reached the same conclusion. The rogue… he was one of them. One of Rosemary’s pack.

Nathaniel’s voice cuts through the thick silence, steady but filled with tension. “Thank you, Gamma Nikolai. And please thank the doctor for us.”

We walk out of the room, leaving the coldness of the morgue behind, but the weight of what we’ve seen clings to us.

Let’s go to the woods. We need to talk alone, Nathaniel’s voice echoes through the mind-link.

Agreed, I respond, already feeling the knot of tension tightening in my chest.

As we step outside, the frigid air bites at my skin, but it does little to numb the questions racing through my mind. What does this mean for Rosemary? For our pack? We’ve uncovered something, but it feels like the beginning of something much darker. Something that’s been hidden for far too long.

“I think it’s time you share your theory with me, buddy,” Nathaniel said, his voice tense as we walked deeper into the forest. The trees closed in around us, the air heavy with the weight of our discovery.

I hesitated, glancing at him. “I’m not sure how it all adds up yet.”

Nathaniel stops in his tracks and turns to me, frustration clear in his expression. “Dylan, we need anything we can get after seeing Mer’s pack symbol on a dead man.” His voice rises, almost shouting. I get it. He’s right. This is too important to hold back.

“Okay, okay,” I concede, taking a deep breath. “If I’m not mistaken, there’s an old myth. A summoning spell. Some witch’s ritual that requires three specific hearts: one from a witch, one from a werewolf, and one from a hybrid. But I don’t know the specifics beyond that.”

Nathaniel looked at me, his brows furrowed. “And now we have a dead werewolf, and I’m assuming that the person from the club was a witch. But hybrids? They’re all long extinct. There hasn’t been a trace of one in over a century.”

“Perhaps something is making Andromeda believe otherwise,” I said, my mind racing as the pieces started to click together.

“Maybe,” Nathaniel muttered, his voice low, “but we can’t be certain that it’s Andromeda behind this.”

“So let’s look at the facts,” I said, trying to ground us both. “We need to figure out what a werewolf from Mer’s extinct pack was doing here in Russia, of all places, nearly two decades after they were wiped out. Something’s not adding up, and we need answers. Let’s visit the murder site and see if we can sense or smell anything.”

“I agree,” Nathaniel said, running a hand through his hair, clearly trying to keep calm. “We’ll speak to Alpha Dimitri tomorrow morning. But first, we need to speak with Ethan. His Luna is involved, whether we like it or not. He’s not going to want to wait until we’re back home to hear this.”

I nod, understanding the gravity of what we’ve stumbled upon. If Ethan finds out that Rosemary’s pack is somehow tied to a ritual that involves murder - well, let’s just say things could go south quickly. He’s been on edge ever since Andromeda resurfaced, and this? This could push him over.

I take a deep breath, the tension in my shoulders easing slightly. “For today, though, let’s grab a drink. I need to decompress before we drop this bombshell on Ethan. And I want to hear everything about your cute little boyfriend.” My lips twitched into a smirk.

He rolls his eyes, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “Bro, you’re an idiot.”

“A proud one at that,” I said with a laugh, the tension breaking between us for a brief moment.

EthanI couldn’t take my eyes off Rose. Time felt irrelevant, minutes stretched into what could have been hours. The rhythmic beeping of the machines and her shallow breaths were the only signs of life. Her once-vibrant skin looked ashen, and her body, so still now, carried the weight of something unknown, something dangerous. The confusion, the fear, it all swirled around me, suffocating me as I waited for answers that I feared might never come. The door creaked open, and Nathaniel stepped in, still dressed in his wedding suit, though he’d ditched the jacket. His disheveled appearance mirrored the chaos that had erupted in our lives. His usually playful demeanor was absent, replaced with something somber.“We can’t find Amber anywhere,” Nathaniel said, his voice low, burdened with a sense of failure.“What do you mean you can’t find her?” I shot back, my voice rising, a desperate edge sharp

EthanAs Nathaniel and Liam’s kiss ended, they leaned into each other, their foreheads touching, lost in the intimate silence of their love. The clearing was filled with the sounds of cheering, laughter, and celebration, but at that moment, it felt like time stood still for them. I moved forward, ready to embrace my best friend and share his joy, but the atmosphere suddenly shifted. A loud scream pierced the air, shattering the peaceful moment.I whipped around and saw Rose on her knees, her arms wrapped tightly around herself, her face contorted in pain. Fear gripped me, my heart pounding as I sprinted toward her. By the time I reached her, she had collapsed, unconscious, her body limp in my arms.“Rose!” I shouted, my voice thick with panic. I gathered her into my arms, her skin cold against mine, her breathing shallow. My pulse raced as I felt a crowd gathering around us, their murmurs blending into a distant hum, but the only thing that mattered was the woman in my arms. Her face,

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 48

Rosemary Today was Nathaniel and Liam’s wedding, a day the pack had eagerly awaited. The air was filled with excitement, love, and joy, but I couldn’t shake the unease building inside me. I had been feeling unwell since the morning, but I did my best to push through, wanting to be present for Nathaniel’s big day. Grace, always the multitasker, had taken on the role of wedding planner and was rushing around to ensure every detail was perfect. I tried to help where I could, but my body felt heavier, weaker than usual. The ceremony was set to take place in a secluded clearing deep within the forest, a place that seemed to be kissed by nature itself. As I made my way closer to the clearing, the breathtaking beauty of it all hit me. The sunlight filtered gently through the towering trees, casting a golden glow on the vibrant greenery that surrounded us. Wildflowers bloomed at the edges of the clearing, their bright colors contrasting with the deep greens of the forest. The smell of pine a

DylanA strange quiet was settled over the pack, the kind that didn’t bring peace. It was the calm before the storm, the air thick with tension as we all waited for Andromeda to make her move. No one said it outright, but I knew everyone could feel it - like a predator circling, just out of sight. I had been in enough battles to know that this kind of stillness isn’t natural; it’s calculated. And if I could feel it, I knew Ethan did, too.Ethan’s always carried the pack’s weight on his shoulders, but lately, it has been different. There was a heaviness in him that wasn’t there before, like he was wrestling with shadows I couldn’t see. I was used to his relentless work ethic, the way he poured himself into every detail of running this pack. But it was more than that now. He was pushing himself harder, training with a single-minded intensity that would be impressive if it weren’t so worrying. I didn’t think he had slept a whole night in weeks.Last week, I caught him out in the training

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 46

RosemaryIt had been four months since that night by the creek, the night I drank Amber’s potion, sealing away a choice I didn’t fully understand. I hadn’t dared return to that spot - not even once. The memory of it haunted me, the way the moon had hung so heavily, casting an eerie glow on the water as I swallowed the bitter liquid that was supposed to end everything. Since that night, I had felt different, altered in some intangible way, as though I had stepped into a shadow that followed me everywhere, clinging to my skin.My body betrayed me daily. Fatigue sank deep into my bones, the kind of exhaustion that sleep could never touch. No matter how many hours I slept, I always woke feeling as if I’d been carrying a weight all night. Even the simplest tasks left me winded, my muscles ached as though I’d run for miles. Every step felt heavy, as if invisible chains weighed down my feet. Something was wrong, and yet, I couldn’t find the will to question it. I had made a decision that nig

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 45

RosemaryThe night of the full moon arrived, and I brewed the tea Amber had given me in a thermos, the bitter herbs swirling together like an ink-stained solution to all the chaos swirling inside me. As I stepped out into the cool night, I felt the familiar pull of my wolf, that instinctive desire to shift under the full moon, to let go and run wild through the forest. The urge was powerful, stronger than ever before, but I couldn’t give in tonight. Not until this was done. The moon hung high in the sky, bathing the woods in silver light, casting shadows that danced as I made my way to the creek I had found on my first shift. It was fitting, I thought, to return to the place where I had first felt the raw power of my wolf - where I had first realized what I truly was. But tonight wasn’t about connecting with my wolf. It was about taking back control.I arrived at the creek, the air cool and crisp against my skin. I sat beneath the familiar tree, the same tree that had given me comfort

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 44

RosemaryThe heavy fog in my brain slowly began to lift. It was like clawing my way out of a deep, suffocating pit, but eventually, I found my way back to consciousness. My body felt weak, like I had been wrung out and left to dry. My throat felt raw, as if I had swallowed sand, and when I tried to speak, no sound came out. My eyelids fluttered open, but the light was too bright, stabbing into my eyes, forcing me to shut them again.I tried again, this time more slowly. As my vision cleared, I saw him - Ethan. He was sitting in a chair right next to the bed, his head resting on the edge of the mattress. His face was peaceful, his chest rising and falling softly as he slept. A faint snore escaped his lips. Even in sleep, he looked so protective, so close.I didn’t want to wake him, but I shifted just enough to make him stir. His eyes opened immediately, concern flashing across his face the moment he saw me awake.“Rose, you’re awake!” His voice was filled with a mixture of relief and a

EthanI sat beside her hospital bed, my heart pounding in my chest. The cold, sterile atmosphere of the hospital was suffocating. The rhythmic beeping of the machines was the only sound breaking the silence, but all I could focus on was her - Rose, lying there, looking so small, so fragile. This wasn’t her. The woman I knew was a firestorm, full of life and strength. But now, her skin was pale, her lips cracked, and she looked like she was made of glass, ready to shatter at any moment.I leaned forward, brushing a strand of hair from her face. Her skin felt cool to the touch, much too cold. A lump formed in my throat as I struggled to contain the rising fear. I had never felt so helpless. I, the Alpha, the one who always had to be strong, was now at the mercy of fate - waiting, hoping, praying.Where had I gone wrong? How could I not have known? I replayed the last few weeks in my head over and over. Maybe I should have noticed she was more tired than usual. Maybe I should have stoppe

  • The Rose Luna   Chapter 42

EthanAfter a long, exhausting day in the office, all I wanted was to crawl into bed next to Rose. Being near her had become something I couldn’t live without. Her warmth, her presence - it was all that allowed me to truly rest. But when I knocked on her door, there was no answer. I tried again. Still nothing.A strange unease crept into my chest. I turned the handle and opened the door to find the room cold and dark. A quick glance revealed the impromptu art studio she’d been using was untouched. Something wasn’t right. I decided to wait for her, assuming she’d show up soon, and sat down on the bed, scrolling through work emails on my phone. Slowly, exhaustion won, and I drifted into an uneasy sleep.A while later, I stirred awake. The room was still dark, and her side of the bed remained untouched. Panic started to gnaw at me. A quick glance at my phone told me it was 2 a.m. I tried to link Rose through the pack-link, but there was no response. I tried again. Still nothing. The knot
