"Them? Why did she say them?"

I reach for the bag and take it from his hands, carrying it into the living room. They follow behind me silently and watch as I open the bag and take out the two puppies.

It's two male Dobermans. Both are nearly all the way black, besides a little bit of light brown patches at the end of their paws and legs, as well as their belly. They also have little strips of brown above their eyebrows.

They are identical in almost every way, just like the twins.

"There's two of them." Antonio points out.

"Bethany said they were the only ones left, and she didn't know what she was going to do because they were very attached to each other." I hold the sleeping puppies to my chest. "I thought that you guys would appreciate them since they are identical, like you guys. Like maybe this could be something good for all of us."

Nick rounds the couch and stands in front of me.

"You got two puppies even though we didn't want even one because they are like twins?"

So just like that? We skip over the divorce papers, the story about Sara and Caroline’s past? Then someone actually killed the parents and not the original story they told her? This has been a pretty well put together book up until now.
