Mila's Pov
I stared in awe as the masculine man came closer to me. He exuded authority and power. He stood tall, his broad shoulders squaring off against the room. The sharp lines of his jawline and chiseled features seemed chiseled by the moon goddess herself. Although his piercing gaze sparkled with anger, it was drawing me in like an ocean.
I know I shouldn't be drooling over a man this way, I couldn't help it. He walked over to me and squinted his eyes. I gulped hard. As if he felt, the bonding, he frowned and froze when our eyes met. He didn't speak a word and left. I stared at his retreating figure, confused. It was obvious he felt the mating bond. Or was it something else? Almost immediately, another man walks in with a smile. "Hello. You're awake," he said, clasping his hands together in delight "Yes, I am. But where am I?" I asked, still confused. "Well, this is Mystic pack, and I am the Beta, Max. And it turns out that you collapsed at the border," he explained. This Max guy doesn't seem all that bad. "Who brought me here," "Well, I did. I couldn't just leave someone who was almost dying out in the open," he replied. "Is the wolf dead?" I asked, feeling somewhat guilty and relieved at the same time. "Don't worry. Those were rogues and they wanted to kill you. I think you crossed their territory or something. They are better off dead anyways," Max said. I nodded and yawned. I was famished. I hadn't eaten anything yet. Max smiled as my stomach growled. "Before I ask you all the questions that need to be asked, let's get you something to eat," he suggested and I half smiled. "That'll be nice," I responded "I'll have the maids bring in food for you," he said. "No. I don't want to stress anyone. I can just go out and get the food myself. I could use a walk to clear the fog in my head," I objected. Although it didn't seem like he liked my idea, he nodded anyway. I felt a little bit relieved as I didn't want to leave here just soon. My mate was here and it was that guy that just came in. I need to know who he is and why he frowned when he felt the mating bond. As we walked, I tried bringing up the conversation with him. "Mystic pack huh?" I began Max paused for a moment without turning around. "Is there a problem with that?" he asked. I bit my lips. I think I'm beginning to bite more than I can chew here. "No. There's nothing wrong. I haven't just expected to be here," He continued walking and I knew better than to continue talking, so I kept mute. We walked over to a long dining hall and Max gestured for me to take my seat, which I did. By now, my stomach was grumbling and I had to make shuffle noises with my feet to distract the noise. Before long, a tray of different dishes was served in front of me and I smiled, satisfied. I started eating so fast I felt my throat would burst open. The dishes were much,I just skipped from one to another. I didn't care about etiquette and all those things that I'd been taught in my previous pack. I just ate like someone who had been starving. Well, technically, I've been starving. I felt a strong pleasant presence in the room and stared at Max. It was obvious he was disgusted by the way I eat, but who cares? They would throw me out of the pack once I was done eating. So I would eat as much as I can so it can sustain me till my next meal. I looked behind me and found the source of the presence. It was him. My second chance mate.He was staring at me as if I was the next thing to a trash can. I knew he was going to reject me, because who wouldn't? Given the way I am eating?
Max stood up abruptly and bowed. Why was he bowing? Wait...Max said he was the Beta. Who was higher than the Beta? It's the... "Hello, Alpha Adrian," Max greeted. Something in me snapped. ************************** Adrian's POV Max came to my study unannounced. It wasn't something he would do. "Is there a problem, Max?" I asked "Kind of. Although not really," he replied, almost inaudible. "What is it?" I asked. "You know you ordered some of our men to catch those rogues that had been stealing from the pack for a while now?" he began I nodded. "So?" "Well, they weren't on standby today and I think the rogues attacked a she-wolf," he explained. I felt my heart skip a beat. How could this have happened? I stood up abruptly. "Was she hurt?" Max nodded. “She is hurt, but not much. She collapsed by the borders. I brought her into the quarters and ordered some maids to tend to her,'‘ he continued. "Let me see her to confirm," I ordered and started walking out, with Max following behind. I walked out of the study toward the quarters. I wasn't a caring man and people feared me. But I wouldn't sit down and watch wolves get injured because of the mistake of the men I implored to do the smallest task. As I neared the door, I felt a great bond and a very soothing fragrance. I knew my mate was in there. I could feel it. I opened the door of the room and saw the most beautiful set of eyes I have ever seen in my life. I felt my heart about to explode. I stared at her and her eyes sparkled with interest. No. I can't have a mate now. This was the worst time for me to have a mate. I frowned and walked over to her. I should be happy that I have finally found my mate. But I was not. I wasn't happy that I had found my mate. I frowned deeper. I could see the confusion written all over her face but I didn't care. I turned around and left.Mila's POV I gasped as Morticia grabbed my neck with her hands, her nails digging deep into my flesh as I whimpered."What are you doing?" I managed to voice out.Morticia didn't answer me as her eyes were shining with a bright light. She screeched lightly and tightened her grip. My eyes widened in shock. Morticia was the other demon creature that had been doing all the killings. "Morticia, it's me, Mila," I struggled to speak as her hands didn't leave my neck I glanced around in panic as my eyes landed on a small dagger next to me. I didn't want to risk it but I had no other choice. I stretched my hands with all my might and grabbed the knife. I felt my vision blurring and I knew Morticia was trying to kill me and there was nothing I would do.I remembered what I read in the book. If the other creature meets its rival, it would put up a fight and try to kill it. The only way to escape is by killing it first. I can't kill Morticia. I would have to find a way to make her change back
Adrian's POVI walked toward the gate in anticipation and worry. My senses were restless as I felt my mate's unease. The guards stared at me and bowed once I got to the gate."Your majesty." the first guard greeted, bowing down and, at the same time, trying to use his eyes to search around for something. I wasn't with any guards and it was unusual. "When did Mila leave here?" I asked, not minding his still bowing posture."Well, not more than two hours ago," he replied."Any idea on where she is headed?" I inquired impatiently."Not really, your majesty. But she didn't dress like someone who had to go somewhere far," he replied."Did you have any guards follow her?" I implored. The guard shook his head in the negative. "I didn't know we had to assign guards to her when going out," I sighed and tapped his tense shoulder gently to assure him I wasn't angry before walking past him."You aren't taking any guards with you, your majesty," he called after me.I waved my hands, signaling h
Adrian's POV I was getting really angry and rather uncomfortable with Aunt Matilda in my office."What do you see in her?" she asked, her voice laced with disdain.Aunt Matilda had requested to see me in my office after breakfast. She seemed not to be concerned about anything else other than the fact that she needed something from me. Whatever that was, I already knew I was going to say no because her needs were always insufferable."Don't you think you're crossing the line here?" I inquired, my voice cold."Felicia already told me about Reyna's pregnancy," Aunt Matilda began.I raised my brow in disappointment. How did Felicia know Reyna and even about the pregnancy?"Felicia knows Reyna?" I asked"Well, I think she does, seeing how she already knows about the pregnancy," she replied "Well, what about the pregnancy?" I countered."What do you mean by that? Aren't you going to do anything about it?" she enquired."Something like what?" I countered back, my voice cold like ice."You
Mila's POV I walked slowly as I tried to make out the buildings and recall the exact place I was looking for. The passerby didn't seem to pay any attention to me as everyone was busy going through their daily activities. I must not have been paying attention when Felicia and I came here last because I found it hard to locate the route.I stopped by an elderly woman who looked rather strange. "Hello ma'am," I called out slowly but politely She looked up at me without a smile and ignored me.I coughed lightly to gain her attention."I am kinda lost," I continued, hoping she would answer me. Maybe she didn't hear me the first time."What is my problem if you are lose? Many people get lost and missing within this short time and the Alpha ain't doing nothing," she spat.A part of me wanted to leave her alone and continue my journey, but there weren't any other friendly faces. "Can you show me the way to Morticia?" I pleased She looked up at me with disdain."What are you doing looking
Felicia and Amanda waited patiently in the room, waiting for the first break of the door. They held their breaths in anticipation as the doorknob twisted slowly, revealing the satisfactory face of Reyna. She walked in with a sly smile plastered across her face. Felicia stared at Amanda and they both smiled knowingly. "So how did it go?" Felicia was the first to speak Reyna paused for a while as if keeping them both in suspense. "Guess," she said Amanda rolled her eyes. "We weren't there with you, and there's no prediction as to what Adrian might do," Reyna scowled."It's no fun if I tell you that way," she whined Felicia sighed loudly. "Reyna, please," "Fine," Reyna dropped her shoulder in resignation. "I told him, but he neither accepted it nor denied it being his," "So you're saying you failed?" Amanda's questioning voice thundered in the room."Cut her some slacks, will you?" Felicia smiled "It's just a simple task. She would have pestered him till he succumbs to her char
Mila's POV "What do you mean you're pregnant?" Adrian asked, his eyes bulging in shock.I stared at them both as I didn't know what to think at the moment. It felt like a heavy weight was resting on my chest, making me unable to breathe. Adrian glanced from me to her, then to me again. It was obvious he was utterly shocked beyond words. "What do you mean? I mean I'm pregnant," the lady, Reyna, spoke. "How?" he asked again. I almost yelled in annoyance but kept my calm "We had sex," Reyna spoke with a straight face. "Adrian. Is she telling the truth?" I asked, my voice barely audible."Mila, can you please give us a little time?" Adrian requested I stared at him in disbelief. "I should excuse you?" "Mila please don't make things worse. I need to understand what she's saying," he explained.I laughed mockingly. "You mean you don't understand what she's saying?" Adrian gave me one last look and I scoffed. What else is there to say that I haven't heard? It was obvious she was tel
