The next day, Lara went about her usual routine. She showered, got dressed, and left for work without seeing even a glimpse of Lucas. She had no idea what time he had come home last night or when he had left this morning.

By now, she should’ve been used to it. But some wounds never truly heal.

Pushing the thoughts aside, Lara focused on the day ahead.

Work kept her occupied. As always, her students were a welcome distraction, their bright smiles and endless energy filling the hours with warmth. She spent the day guiding them through their lessons, laughing at their silly antics, and gently correcting their mistakes.

By the time classes ended, Lara was in the waiting area with the children who were still waiting to be picked up. The late afternoon sun bathed the playground in gold, casting long shadows as parents slowly arrived, one by one, to collect their kids.

Just as she knelt to tie a little girl’s shoelace, her phone vibrated in the pocket of her skirt.

She finished tying the bo

Grabbing her purse, Lara straightened her shoulders, took one last look in the mirror, and walked out the door. The night air was cool as she locked both the main door and the gate, the familiar click echoing in the quiet street. She inhaled deeply, steadying herself before heading to her car.As she slid into the driver’s seat and started the engine, she entered the restaurant’s name into Google Maps. The drive took longer than expected due to traffic, leaving her tapping her fingers on the steering wheel impatiently. By the time she pulled into the parking area of Discovery Suites, it was already a quarter to six. She wasn’t late, but she didn’t have much time to collect herself before the dinner. Not that she needed to—it was just a simple meal, after all.Still, as she stepped out of the car and adjusted the strap of her purse over her shoulder, she couldn’t shake off the strange flutter in her stomach. Looking up, she took in the towering structure of Discovery Suites, its sleek

After scanning through the selections, they placed their orders. Reagan ordered a premium Wagyu dish, while Lara opted for seared salmon with truffle mashed potatoes. They also settled on a shared appetizer and a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to complement their meal.As the waiter left, Lara relaxed into her seat, half-expecting silence to stretch between them. After all, she and Reagan were barely acquaintances. She wasn’t sure what to say to him—or if she should say anything at all.But surprisingly, Reagan was the one to break the silence first.“How was work?” he asked, casually swirling the water in his glass.Lara blinked at the unexpected question before answering, “Oh. It was… good. The kids kept me busy.”“You work at a preschool, right?”She nodded. “Yes. It’s a small private school, but I love it there.”Reagan hummed, as if considering her words carefully. “Not many people have the patience for children.”Lara smiled slightly. “They’re easier to understand than most adults

When her card was returned, they left the restaurant and stepped out onto the bustling city street. The evening air was cool, and the sound of the city filled the space around them—the distant hum of traffic, occasional laughter from people passing by, the rhythmic clicking of Lara’s heels against the pavement. Despite the silence between them, it wasn’t uncomfortable. Reagan walked at a steady pace beside her, his hands in his pockets, his posture relaxed. After a few minutes, they arrived at a nearby park nestled between high-rise buildings. The lamplights cast a soft glow over the cobblestone paths, and a gentle breeze stirred the trees, rustling their leaves in a quiet symphony. Lara shivered slightly, realizing too late that she had nothing to shield her from the cool air. Before she could react, she felt something warm drape over her shoulders. Startled, she glanced down and saw a familiar black coat. She looked up at Reagan, eyes wide. “Oh. You don’t have—” “You looked c

Lara pulled into the driveway, cutting the engine as she let out a slow breath. The warm glow of the living room lights seeped through the curtains, confirming what she already suspected.Lucas was home. The happiness she had felt earlier—the lightness from her evening with Reagan—slowly dissipated, replaced by an unsettling unease. There was no reason to feel guilty. She hadn’t done anything wrong. And yet, a strange nervousness settled in her chest.Taking a steadying breath, she grabbed her bag and draped Reagan’s coat over her arm before stepping out of the car. The sound of her heels clicking against the garage floor echoed faintly as she walked toward the front door.As soon as she entered the house, she caught sight of Lucas in the living room. He was sitting on the couch, dressed comfortably in a plain white shirt and gray sweatpants, his laptop open on the coffee table in front of him. His fingers moved across the keyboard before he suddenly stopped, looking up as if sensing

The next morning, Lara slipped into her routine as if nothing had changed. She showered, dressed in comfortable clothes, and headed downstairs to the kitchen. The house was quiet—just as it always was in the mornings. She tied her hair up into a loose ponytail and got to work, preparing a simple breakfast. Pancakes, fried eggs, and freshly brewed coffee. It was almost automatic now, the way her hands moved—measuring, flipping, plating. She wasn’t even sure if Lucas would eat, but she made enough for both of them anyway. She had just set the table and was pouring coffee into two mugs when she heard footsteps behind her. Turning slightly, she saw Lucas entering the kitchen. Dressed in a crisp white dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, black slacks, and a neatly knotted tie, he looked every bit the man she had married. For a fleeting moment, her gaze lingered. It was an old habit, one she hadn’t quite shaken. But just as quickly, she pulled herself back to reality.“Good

  • The Unwanted Wife   Chapter 45: The Final Straw

After her last class, Lara decided to stop by the mall to buy a birthday gift for Lucas’s mother.Evelyn—her mother-in-law, had always loved designer bags. Lara had seen her collection over the years—luxurious, timeless pieces, each carefully chosen. Wanting to give her something she would genuinely like, Lara spent the next hour browsing high-end boutiques, examining different styles, colors, and materials before finally settling on a white Hermès Birkin. It was a safe choice—sophisticated and understated. Something Evelyn would appreciate.Without hesitation, she took it to the counter, paid for it, and waited as the staff carefully wrapped the bag in its signature orange box. Once the transaction was complete, she took the shopping bag in hand and made her way toward the exit. But just as she turned to leave, something across the walkway caught her eye. Lara slowed her steps, her heart hammering against her ribs as she took a closer look. And then her feet stopped altogether. It’s

The day passed by in a blur, and before Lara knew it, Friday had arrived. She was in the faculty room, gathering her things after her last class, when her phone buzzed with a message.Lucas: I’ll pick you up at 6.She stared at the screen for a moment, then locked her phone without responding. What was the point? He was merely informing her, not asking. There was no room for discussion.“Heading home already?” one of her co-teachers asked as she slung her bag over her shoulder.“Yeah, I have an event to go to tonight.” she said, managing a small smile. “I'll see you all on Monday. Have a good weekend.”They exchanged quick goodbyes before she made her way to the parking lot, sliding into her car and driving home.As soon as she arrived, she headed straight to her bedroom. When Lara stepped into her condo, the silence wrapped around her like a blanket—familiar, quiet, and oddly comforting. She kicked off her shoes by the door, the echo of their fall the only sound in the stillness. The weight of the night lingered on her shoulders like a heavy residue. After everything that happened at the bar—after seeing Lucas act like that, hearing him say things he probably wouldn’t even remember tomorrow—it only solidified her decision. She was done letting his confusion derail her healing. No more doubts. No more delays.Without wasting a moment, she headed to the study room. She slid into the chair and opened her laptop, the familiar whir of it powering on grounding her slightly.Earlier that morning, Atty. Lara hadn’t opened it then—part of her still wasn’t sure if she was ready. But tonight changed that. She clicked into her Gmail and found the email sitting at th

It took nearly half an hour before they reached the bar. Reagan parked by the curb, casting a glance at Lara before they stepped out of the car. The place was packed and loud—music pounding from the speakers, laughter spilling over the chatter, the scent of alcohol and smoke heavy in the air. Reagan instinctively moved closer, his hand gently resting on her shoulder, shielding her from the jostling crowd. Lara was grateful for the small gesture. Her nerves were already frayed, and his quiet steadiness was the one thing keeping her grounded. When they reached the counter, Lara spotted them immediately. Izek sat sideways on a barstool, looking like he wanted to be anywhere else. And beside him—slumped pathetically over the counter—was Lucas. But what made Lara stop cold in her tracks wasn’t either of them—it was the woman standing in front of them. Riah. Her chest tightened, a sick feeling rising in her stomach. What the hell is this? Why was she here? Did Lucas call h

It was a call. From Lucas. The name alone made her stomach twist. Why was he calling her now? At this hour? Her instinct was to silence the phone and shove it back in her pocket, but she was frozen. Reagan’s eyes narrowed slightly as he noticed the shift in her expression. “Everything okay?” She looked up and forced a small smile, shaking her head. “It’s nothing.” The phone stopped ringing… only to start again a few seconds later. Lara exhaled sharply, the burrito now forgotten in her hand. She glanced at Reagan, apologetically. “I’ll just take this. Give me a sec,” Lara walked a few steps away, toward a less crowded corner of the street. She hesitated for a beat before answering. “Lucas?” she asked, already on edge. “Why are you calling?” But it wasn’t his voice that greeted her. [“Hi, um… sorry. I’m not Lucas,”] a woman said on the other end. Lara blinked, confusion knitting her brows. “Then who are you? Why do you have his phone?” The woman hesitated, then replied vagu

When they finished their food, Lara pulled him along to the next stalls, pointing at skewers. “Okay, what do we have here? Hmm.. we got isaw, betamax, pig’s ears, adidas—” Reagan stopped short. “Wait. ‘Adidas’?” “Chicken feet,” she replied like it was no big deal. His brows furrowed. “Why is it called that?” She shrugged. “Because it looks like a tiny shoe? I don’t know. We should just eat.” She picked up a stick of betamax, dipped it in barbecue sauce and handed it to him. “Here, try this first.” Reagan eyed it warily. “What is it?” She grinned. “Coagulated pork blood.” He blinked at her. “That’s… very specific. Is it safe?” “Of course it is. I've been eating this for years and look—I’m still alive. C’mon, try it. You won’t regret it, promise.” He gave her a long, suffering look but eventually took a cautious bite. Lara watched his face closely, lips twitching. “I don’t like it,” he said flatly. She burst out laughing. Reagan narrowed his eyes. “You’re enjoying this.”

The early evening air was warm and slightly humid and the sun had already dipped beyond the skyline, casting a warm orange hue over the street. Reagan unlocked his car, and opened the passenger door for Lara. “Thanks,” Lara said with a small smile as she got in. Once Reagan slid into the driver’s seat, she gave him the address of the place she had in mind. Reagan nodded, punching it into the GPS. “But you sure about this spot?” Reagan asked as he start the engine. Lara grinned. “Very sure. Trust me, it’s not fancy, but the food will change your life.” Reagan glanced sideways at her, one brow raised. “That’s a bold claim.” She only smiled in return, eyes glinting with mischief. “You’ll see.” The traffic, unfortunately, wasn’t on their side. It was rush hour, and the streets were packed. Cars inched forward in a slow, honking symphony. But strangely, the time didn’t feel wasted. They talked—nothing deep, just bits and pieces. Music filled the silence in between. The conversati

Lara spent her Monday doing what she did best—teaching. Her day flowed with the usual rhythm, moving from one classroom activity to the next, smiling at her students’ boundless energy. She sang with them, helped them trace letters, tied shoelaces, wiped tears, and laughed along with the kind of unfiltered joy only five-year-olds could bring.By lunchtime, she opted for food delivery, too tired to go out. While eating inside the faculty room, surrounded by the low hum of chatter and clinking utensils, her thoughts began to drift.Specifically, to Reagan. What were the odds? she thought, poking at her meal with her fork. Out of all the places in the city, he had to live in the same building. And not just any part of the building—he stepped out of the private elevator earlier, which she knew was only accessible to penthouse residents.Well, that shouldn’t be surprising. He does own a tech company, after all.She took a bite of her food and chewed slowly, her mind drifting again. His coat

Sunday came quietly. A soft rain tapped against the windows that morning, the sky gray and overcast—a perfect excuse to stay in. And Lara did.She spent the entire day cooped in the comfort of her space. She finished an entire novel curled up on the couch, laughed softly at a feel-good rom-com on Netflix, and even dusted off her baking tools to make banana muffins, letting the sweet scent of sugar and vanilla fill the kitchen like a warm hug.By evening, she sat in the study room, her laptop open as she worked on her lesson plans for the week. The quiet hum of the city beyond the glass walls offered a sense of peace. She tried—genuinely tried—not to think about Lucas. And yet, no matter how much she tried to fill her day, the ache in her chest lingered. It wasn’t as sharp as before—just a dull throb, like a bruise healing under the skin. She missed him. Or maybe not him, but the hope she once clung to.After all, moving on wasn’t as easy as telling herself to let go. She admit to tha

The supermarket was just a fifteen-minute drive away, and she spent nearly two hours picking out what she needed—snacks, frozen meals, fresh produce, cleaning supplies, toiletries, and other essentials. Her cart was full, but she didn’t mind. It felt good, normal even, to be doing something for herself again. She wheeled two full boxes of groceries out to the car and loaded them into the trunk herself, not thinking twice about the weight. Years of being strong on her own had prepared her for this. On the way home, she made a quick detour through the McDonald's drive-thru. She ordered without hesitation: one-piece chicken with rice, a Quarter Pounder with cheese, Chicken McNuggets, BFF fries, a McFloat, and a Mango Passion Fizz. Not exactly the healthiest meal, but she didn’t care. She was starving—and craving something familiar. Something that didn’t require her to try so hard. Comfort food for a woman finally learning to comfort herself. She drove back to her condo and parked in

All she wanted now was to be somewhere she could finally breathe. The drive to her condo was a quiet blur of city streets and red traffic lights. The sun had risen fully now, casting a soft glow over the skyline. As she turned into the underground parking of the high-rise building, a sense of detached calm washed over her. Her new reality had begun. After finding a space, she parked, turned off the engine, and took a deep breath. She got out, opened the trunk, and pulled out her suitcase. The wheels of her luggage echoed in the garage as she walked toward the elevator and pressed the button to her floor.Once the doors slid open, she stepped into the sleek, modern hallway and made her way to her unit. She unlocked the door and was immediately greeted by the crisp scent of lavender and lemon—prob
