An hour after we left the wedding venue we reached a mansion which was located towards the outskirts of the city.
A silent gasp left my throat as it came into view, making alexandria turn his head towards me with a smirk on his face. It was a beautiful mansion, surrounded by very big trees forming a type of fence around it. The path to the entrance was a classic style stone path. The house was a very large mansion with four big pillars, two on each end. The exterior was painted a milky white color. Impressed by what I saw, I gave a slight nod of approval, happy that at least i wouldn’t have to deal with him seeing how big the house was. We could sleep on opposite ends of the house and not disturb each other. “Welcome to your new home”, said Alexandria. “Yeah, home sweet home”, I said with a tight smile not wanting to seem too ecstatic about my new home and my living arrangements. Just outside the door stood a middle aged Latina woman, who was sizing me up with her eyes. She bowed to me as I came closer. “Hello Mrs Cartwright, welcome to your new home”. Thank you ehmm..., I replied wanting to know who she was. She seemed to have understood as she replied, “Joanna, Joanna ma’am, I am the head maid of the house”. Okay thank you Joanna, I replied as I moved to enter into the house with alexandria behind me, and from the corner of my eye I saw them share an acknowledging smile towards each other, that was weird, I thought to myself, putting it behind me. The driver brought out my luggage from the car trunk, also introducing himself, “My name is David, ma’am”, he said making a slight bow as I nodded in acknowledgment. "Hi David", I replied as he went before us, pulling my luggage into the house. I followed him into the house with Alexandria and the maid following me behind. Upon entering the house I was also impressed as the interior of the house did not disappoint me. I was welcomed by the sight of a very large spiral staircase in the middle end of the living room, leading to the second floor staring right in front of me. The living room was well decorated with very big large furniture, a digital fireplace and a giant TV that had a beautiful scenery of nature on the screen. At the end of the corridor, the kitchen was next to it, and it had a dining set good for ten people. It was surrounded by glass from the walls to the floor. Leading the way, Alexandria, went upstairs showing me my room. “Look it's just a temporary thing, it's for you to familiarize yourself with the house after which you will move into the main bedroom with me, where we will stay as a couple”, he said as he turned to leave the room. “And if you need me you can come find me in the study that I also use as a home office, it’s the last room to your right, opposite the powder room or in the main bedroom which is two rooms down” he added as he proceeded to close the door behind him. Taking a deep breath, I sat on the bed to admire the room. My room is painted with mainly white and a little pink accents. The bed is king sized. I stood up and went to check the bathroom and was stunned by the sheer size, it was bigger than the bathrooms at my parents house, it had a rain shower and a big Jacuzzi bathtub in the middle of the bathroom. The room also had a big walk-in closet that was filled with clothes and shoes and a few bags. I knew it wasn’t him that prepared this room, it had to be Joanna the maid. I opened my luggage and began arranging my things into the closet, after doing that I just took a quick shower and laid down in bed calling it a day. I was woken up by a soft knock at my door. I checked the time on my phone, and it was 6:30pm, opening the door to check who it was, it was joanna. Ma’am, please dinner is ready, Mr Alexandria would like you to come down to the dinner table for your meal with him. “Okay, tell him I said to give me 5 minutes, I will be down soon”, I replied as I hugged my robe tightly. Closing the door behind me I rushed to change out of the sleeping robe I was wearing into a plain white tee and jeans pants. I walked to the mirror above my dresser to see my reflection and I removed my hair from the messy bun I kept it in and lastly I fluffed my hair to look presentable. Satisfied with my looks, I left the room and walked down the stairs, I saw Alexandria with his back facing me. When I reached the dining table I gave him a nod of acknowledgement as I sat down to see our dinner was pasta. As I picked up my cutlery to dig in I noticed alexandria from my peripheral view looking at me with a smile. I dropped the cutlery and looked at him, “is there anything on my face”, I asked him. “No, no, let's just eat”, he said as he raised his hands as a gesture to eat. I ignored him and picked my cutlery as we began to eat, silence filled the air, till Joanna came in and asked if would like anything else. I said no, and Alexandria also said no. We ate the entire dinner in silence. After which I stood up calling Joanna to tell her I was done with dinner. As I left the dining area, Alexandria called my name. “Kiana, about your father’s business, I will see to it that I keep my side of the arrangement”, he said nonchalantly, while leaning on the end of the staircase. Thank you, I replied back and turned to leave. Who does he think he is, I said to myself as I climbed the stairs. I know that he’s helping my father, but does he think we are the only one’s getting something from this deal, he is also getting me so why should he behave as if he’s doing us a favor. Putting these thoughts behind me for another day I changed back into my sleeping robe and slept off as soon as my head touched the soft pillow. ( Two days later...) Alexandria had fulfilled his promise to my family after the wedding. Later he met with my father, Andrew, and they drafted a contract and he helped him by giving him ten million dollars to sort out his business affairs and troubles. When my father told me this I felt happy for them and also sad for me as it dawned on me that there was no escaping this life, now that he had paid my father’s debt. Later that evening, I stood outside his study for about a minute or so contemplating if I should thank him or not, finally settling on thanking him. I knocked on the door of his study. “Who is there?”he asked, his voice deep but sultry, making my stomach turn in excitement, but also wondering why he had not left for work. “It's me, Kiana," I replied back. I heard shuffling and after what felt like a few minutes, the door finally swung open revealing Alexandria dressed in a white woman beater and khaki shorts. “Come in”, he said as he walked towards his office chair, gesturing his hands for me to sit on the chair on the opposite side facing him, and I did. As I sat down I looked at him admiring his features, he sure was a very beautiful man. Suddenly, a thought came to my head, if we ever gave birth to a son, I wondered what he would look like, maybe he would be as handsome as his father. “Whoa, Kiana, slow your brakes, that’s going too far” I said to myself, you guys don’t even know each other and now you're thinking of the child you may or may not have together. Lost in my thoughts, I didn't realize how long I stared at him for until alexandria cleared his throat bringing me back to the present “So, how are you settling in, " he asked while rubbing his temple. “Ehmm, it’s going well, so far there’s been nothing complaint worthy since I came here. “Okayy…, so what did you come to see me for?” he asked, ending the small talk and going straight to what brought me to his office. “I wanted to say thank you for helping my dad, he just told me that you guys had met and signed the contract, so once again thank you, you’ve helped us greatly”. “Yes, that I did, but was that not part of the agreement we made?, my money in exchange for you” he said nonchalantly with a straight face. "There’s no need to thank me, but you can show your appreciation by being a good wife". “What do you mean?”I said, confused. Wondering if he had gone crazy. What does he mean to be a good wife, was i a bad wife before, I thought. He stood up from his seat moving towards me, he turned my seat to face him as he leaned on my end of the table. “I mean, i have a gala to attend tomorrow evening, and you are to come with me as my partner and plus one”. I have made arrangements for the dress and shoe you will wear and you will look good as I show off my , he said as he brushed my hair behind my ears. My stomach fluttered in response. It took a great deal for me not to turn red from his touch. I wiggled out of the chair, standing to face him while backing away slowly, I replied, okay then, tell me the time and place I’ll meet you there. “Oh no no, you’re not” he said quickly, grabbing my wrist to keep me from leaving before saying, “no, we are leaving the house together, for God’s sake we are married now, do you want gossip to spread among my friends and social circle, that we are just married for show”. “We leave together, and make sure you are ready before 7pm”, he said as he let go of my hands, I rubbed my wrist as I left his office. Walking back to my room, I leaned on the wall, catching my breath, thinking how just his touch could have this type of effect on my body, feeling as if I had just an affair on Calvin. I said to myself “you broke his heart, you had better not even think about him”. I regained my composure and walked back to my room.(Kiana’s P.O.V)Coming out from the bathroom into my bedroom I switched on my phone, after putting it off to avoid calls from Alexandria’s controlling self.We had just had what was beginning to seem like an almost daily banter. This banter is beginning to become frequent and I am starting to think he does this on purpose just to get a rise out of me or is he just bored. We had just argued again yesterday morning before I left for work. This time around the cause of the argument was something do stupid. We had argued over breakfast on who gets the say on foods that should be served for breakfast.Stupid I know but I don't know why these past days I always get triggered when he says something I know I would otherwise ignore if it were to be said by someone else.Using my smaller towel to dry my hair, I waited patiently as my phone rebooted. Still waiting for it to finish loading, I decided to apply lotion on my body. While I was done with applying my body lotion, I checked to see if
(Andrew’s p.o.v)Today's the day I am to meet my brother, whom I haven't spoken to in almost three decades. I left my house early in the morning at about 8 am as I knew the journey to his house was a five hour drive.Since I had gotten the proof and documents linking my siblings to my company's recent financial crisis, I contemplated whether to tell my wife or not.I had made up my mind to not inform her as her knowing could upset her and cause her to pay them a surprise visit at their workplace or even in just any public space, and make a scene there embarrassing them in the process. My wife is a naturally calm person who is slow to react, but there are times when she gets ticked off and goes off the handle leading to a bloody and dirty aftermath. But knowing myself I couldn't even keep a birthday surprise to myself much less this much of an issue. So after hesitating for about four days, I was so nervous about not spilling that I unconsciously began to act restless. My wife, being
I opened the door to a dark house welcoming me when I reached home from the party, I immediately assumed that everyone had gone to bed.I came back from the party late in the night at about 11:30 pm to midnight. We had spent more time than we initially planned as we played some games and caught up on our various lives. One of the activities we played at Asher's house was truth or dare, those who wouldn't choose between truth or dare had to drink about a large cup of beer. I had mostly opted out of playing so I had to drink when it was my turn during the game.I was so drunk that I couldn't drive back home so I didn't drive back home.Calvin had offered to drive me back home but I refused as I knew Alexandria would go off the rails if he saw Calvin drop me off. So Asher offered to order an uber to take me home as I turned down Calvin's offer.Even in my drunken state I knew to walk-in stealthily by tiptoeing to my room to avoid being heard by Alexandria and his series of questions abo
Zoe looked at me with scepticism, I gave her a slight nod to assure her that I was going to be okay.Convinced that I was going to be okay, she left us behind, pressing the doorbell to Asher's apartment. The elevator closed and my attention was fully on Calvin’s hand on my arm, looking at him then his warm hands on my arm, it reminded me of our dating days when he would always hold my arm when we were out either on a date or just about anywhere because in his own words “I want everybody to know you're mine’.God I missed his touch, his smell, even the taste of his lips and the feel of his body. It's been so long since we last saw each other. I used this once in a blue moon opportunity to take a closer look at him.His face was pale as if devoid of blood underneath. His beard was scruffy and his clothes no longer clung to his athletic body. He dropped about a few pounds in weight. I dropped the painting I was holding down and held his arms in concern.“My God Calvin you've lost so muc
One week had passed after my last altercation with Alexandria. I thought he would bring up our last conversation regarding the owner of the artwork I was working on, but to my surprise, he never brought it up. Not even when we had breakfast and dinners together. It took a week for the painting to dry properly. Today's the day I meet up with Asher at his house to drop off the painting. He was also hosting his housewarming party today. His band's tour had finally come to an end as he was preparing for his six month hiatus and his apartment was ready, just in time for him to move in. I knew that many of my friends from both our high school days and college days would be in attendance, and I knew that the news of me marrying a very powerful man had spread around, so I knew I had to look and play the role of a billionaire's wife. I sighed “this new life is surely an exhausting and tiring one”.“I wonder why he decided to invite our old classmates to his housewarming party. I would ask
Not wanting to provoke him any further, I opened the door, fearfully moving to hide behind the door.“Stop hiding behind the door kiana, I’m not going to hurt you. “What did you hear from my conversation in the garden?”he asked with a serious look on his face.Slowly, I backed away from the door, turning to face him with fear in my eyes. “Why did I just have to go to the garden today of all days, I should have just stayed in the room and waited for my painting to dry”, I said to myself My stomach in a knot from the feeling of fear, I tried to not to seem intimidated by putting on a brave face.“Emmm, I only heard a small part of your phone call”, I said to him, as I fiddled with my hands nervously. What part?, expatiate”, he replied, while using his hands to show me that he wants me to explain further.“I mean I only heard you saying to the person on the other end of the phone call “has he done it yet, I don’t want to have to remind him”, I replied repeating what he had said on the
