Chapter 2

Freya's pov

"I have to apologize for my cousins' unannounced visit which contradicted our initial arrangement," he said. " But don't worry, I'll find a way to let them out and everything can go back to how it was".

There was something about his eyes; sad and lonely, but I guess my pain and misery were greater. My gaze rested on the portrait of a beautiful woman in Michael's room. He did have a woman in his heart, I wondered. Why were they apart? Was that the reason behind his loneliness and sadness?.

" Miss Rogers," he called, bringing me from my trance. " My cousins won't come here without an ulterior motive. I know it's going to be difficult, addressing me like a husband publicly, but we have to stick to it. That way, we both get to save the only thing that mattered to us," he paused , but I was unable to say a word, " so in the meantime, you have to stay in my room. I assure you, they'll both leave when they don't get what they want"

"Pretending to be a happy couple, you say?" I asked, fear and tension written all over my face. "Miss Rogers, the contract States otherwise when a third party is involved. This is an agreement ..." He snapped, walking over to his wardrobe and bringing out a shirt, where I glimpsed female dresses amidst his. And then I wondered, what exactly happened to him?

" I'll step out for a while, and do not touch anything" he said emphasising on the last words. He took a few minute to adjust his cufflinks before finally heading out.

" Oh God! Will I be able to do these" I sighed, collapsing on the chair. But I couldn't get my eyes off the portrait. I took a few steps, ignoring Michael's warning as I held onto the portrait. "She's so beautiful" I whispered, mesmerized by the woman's striking features; Tall, slender, with long wavy blonde. I forgot about the fragile frame in my hand. It slipped from my fingers, shattering on the floor with a deafening crash. " Oh no, he's is going to kill me" I panicked, my heart racing.

I trembled, disposing of the shattered portrait fragments. My mind racing, I dreaded confessing to Michael. Glancing at the clock, I realized he'd been gone an hour. Thoughts of Alexis and Raymond's schemes suddenly filled my mind. Concern drove me to investigate. As I grasped the door knob, Michael entered, our bodies almost touching. Our faces inches apart, as my heart skipped a beat. Our locked eyes sparked tension. His piercing gaze saw right through me, quickening my pulse, as my cheeks flushed.

"What?" He asked, scanning the room, as his gaze fell on the shattered frame, his expression changing. I struggled to speak, confession trembling on my lips.

"Don't tell me...." He paused, his eyes narrowing. I took a deep breathe, with images of my past flooding in. Will I face the same pain and torture like I once did? What would make this billionaire in front of me different from the one I gave my all to, the one who murdered me completely.

"I'm sorry....Mr Smith" I managed to speak, my voice breaking as I closed my eyes, expecting the worst.

"Miss Rogers, we had an agreement, you weren't supposed to touch my things. Why?" I opened my eyes as I saw his expression, cold and emotionless. As I opened my mouth to speak, he cut me off. "It's fine," he snapped, his tone firm.

" Mr Smith..." " I said it's fine, Miss Rogers" he repeated, " sleep in your room tonight. I believe my cousin are asleep already" I nodded, feeling remorseful.

"I'm sorry about the portrait" I said before leaving as he didn't utter a word, not one.

I closed the ornate door in front of me as I walked gently to my room. But I never stopped thinking about what he said, about losing everything. What could he have lost to make him distance himself from everyone? Even at the wedding, he never genuinely smiled, only forcing one when we were together to maintain the facade of a perfect marriage. Well, I'll do what I should do for the next six months, and I hope everyone finds the happiness they seek.

Ten hours later

I was awakened by the sudden voice of a woman, echoing through the mansion. My eardrum almost ruptured as I approached, I took my last step as I paused the moment I locked eyes with the woman, the same woman from the broken portrait, likely the owner of the female dresses in Michael's room, Michael's only love.

" What are you looking at?" The woman fired, moving closer to me as I stepped back. I didn't want to cause a scene.

"Where's Michael, you golddigger!" She spat, her venomouus gaze piercing. The cousins exchanged sly smiles, revealing their true intentions. They were spies.

"Just take it easy, Emma" Ray said

"Michael'! Michael!" Emma's shrill cry echoed as Michael emerged from the shadows, my eyes fixed on him. There was no way he could put on a show in this woman's presence, this was going to be the end for Michael. His weakness stood before him, his facade would definitely crumble.

"Em... Emma" he called, his face etched with surprise and shock as he locked eyes with her. she was still beautiful, but her long wavy hair had been replaced by a stylish bob. I watched her revealed a smile, revealing her dimples as she walked over to Michael.

" Sweetheart, I'm back" she said as I looked away, Michael has probably lost his defences.

" Why did you come? Why now?" He asked as I turned to face him suddenly, " Michael?" Emma cried, she didn't expect his response to be that lame and emotionless.

" This is me. It's Emma. C'mon, we can rekindle what we had five years ago. Michael I'm sorry about five years ago.."

"You will not speak of that. You won't speak of five years ago" he cuts her off and I wondered, what happened five years ago?

" Emma, I got married yesterday". he said, his eyes betraying pain. I knew Michael still loved her. "This is Freya,...my wife"

Emma scoffed, "Hell no! We can give her money," she paused, glaring at me ." Name your price. Anything, I'll give you. Just leave Michael alone, he's not supposed to hang around with a woman like you"

"Emma, that's enough!" Michael snapped, as Ray and Alexis exchanged shocked glances.

As Emma opened her mouth to speak, Michael's phone buzzed. He hesitated, then slowly reached for it, his eyes locked on Emma. Pulling the phone from his pocket, his gaze dropped to the screen. Suddenly, his expression transformed; horror, shock, and dread. Michael's eyes widened, his jaw slackened, and his face paled. This billionaire, once composed, now trembled.

He stared, frozen, at the phone. Then, abruptly, his gaze snapped to Emma. I darted glances between Michael and Emma's impassive face. Narrowing my eyes, I sensed a dark connection. Before I could speak, Michael swiftly turned, striding urgently toward his room.

"What's going on?" Alexis asked , but there was silence, stunned silence. I stood, perplexed, wondering; What message could evoke such terror? What secret linked Michael and Emma? The silence was oppressive, heavy with foreboding.

Was it about five years ago?

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again   The Bomb Blast News

Chapter 147Freya's POVI couldn't even get a hold of what Grandpa was saying. Probably, I heard wrong. If this was a means to make me watch Michael's intimate moment with Naomi, I wouldn't succumb to it."Mom... I trusted you," I said in a broken voice as I gave Naomi an annoying glare. This time, she raised her head to mine, and I could feel a knife stabbing in them. "I didn't think you'd betray me twice," I said, walking away, when I bumped into Jason, who was holding a package tightly. I could see the hurry in his eyes."Did you know it was Naomi all along?" I asked him, but he stared speechlessly, bulging his eyes. He probably didn't know, and from the sound of Michael's shocking voice, he didn't know either. Then, does this mean my mother knew about all of this all along?"Michael, I'm sorry," I said to him, still looking angrily at Grandpa. "I'm sorry for the way I've acted from the beginning, and I'm—""Freya, what are you doing?" Michael interrupted, trying to come closer, bu

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again   The bracelet and the promise

Chapter 146Freya's POVAfter a few moments of waiting patiently for Grandpa to come over with the reason why he wanted to see me, I realized that Waylen had been absent for a while. "Mom, have you seen Waylen?" I asked, trying to lower my voice as the whole building echoed terribly. "Come on, don't panic. After all, the young boy is around his loved ones," Mom said with a smile on her face, as I swallowed a loud lump. It wasn't as if I was afraid, but I didn't think it was okay for Waylen to wander off all alone. After a few moments of inner turmoil, I decided to go in search of him before I ended up in front of the man I had been trying so hard to avoid - the same man I wanted to claim with all of me. I had become selfish since I met Michael, and I couldn't deny the fact that he was an epitome of perfection. Just like the models I'd seen on TV, Michael could pass for one, as I realized he had styled his hair in a way I had never seen.My inner self sank. "Did he really dress so wel

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again   What the heart wants

Chapter 145 Freya's POVFew minutes after Bella left my home, I began to think about what she had said about tomorrow. Tomorrow was going to begin another new chapter of Michael's life. I thought I could cope with him being with another woman, but then, I didn't think I'll ever live with the fact that I had given up on us. At this point, I felt the only thing I could do to change my fate was to stop the introduction from happening. I didn't know how I was going to do it, but then, I'll surely storm into Grandpa's apartment and win my man.Fourteen hours later, I dropped a peck on Waylen's cheek as I got up from my bed, about to open the door when I bumped into my mom, her hand raised in a way that she was about to plant a knock on the door. "Mom?" I called, wondering why she looked so different; I mean, my mom has never dressed this way. The last time she dressed extravagantly was during Waylen's christening day."Mom," I called again, this time in a cracked voice, but I was surprise

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again   I Don't Care About Tomorrow

Chapter 144Freya's POV"Mr. Michael Smith, how do you feel about your soon-to-be marriage with the promised bride?" "Mr. Michael Smith, how are you coping with having to manage Jenkins' empire together with yours?" "Mr. Michael Smith, how do you feel about ending things with Miss Freya and..."I suddenly turned off the TV as I closed my eyes in deep pain, weeping. It was hard for us both, but I didn't think Michael and I were made for each other in the first place. Ambrose was indeed right about me not finding anyone to love me; probably not in this world."Mom, how is Father doing?" Waylen's soft voice called my attention as I wiped the little tears that fell. I suddenly put up a smile as I kept caressing his silky, blonde hair. "Your dad is going to be fine. Everything will be alright.""And Unc' Michael? I wanna go see them both," he said, and I could feel the enthusiasm in his voice. How on Earth will I explain to him that the chances of him being with his father again are slim?

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again   Ambrose's Shame

Chapter 143Ambrose's POVIt's been a week since I last saw the light of day, and it felt like hell right here in this shit hole. "Raymond, that fool," I muttered underneath my breath, wondering why on Earth he would sacrifice his own life for Michael and Freya. How dare he die and leave me alone to deal with these mess? As I kept thinking of everything that had happened, I knew I needed not stay here any longer. I still had to do something outside of here, and that's the only thing I should think of."Mr. Jenkins, you have a visitor." I smiled slightly, as I was already prepared to give my order to Waylen's nanny. Somehow, she was the only one who could come in and out of this place freely to pay a visit. "You have few minutes, Mr. Smith." I could hear the faint voice of the officer as I paused for a while, wondering why I would hear the last name of the person I never wanted to see. There was no way I'd let Michael see me this way, but then...it was too late for he had seen me alrea

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again   Leaving Michael Broken

Chapter 142Freya's POVAs I waited patiently for Michael to come back to us, my eyes drifted towards Bella, who looked sad and lonely. Jason was heading towards the inner room. "Hey," I called, my voice soothing as ever. She quickly wiped her face and faced me with a forced smile."Hey," she said, sounding glad, even though I could feel the pain in it. "You're Freya, right? So bad we got to meet this way," she said, stretching her hand for a handshake. But I ignored it, giving her a full, warm hug instead."I'm so glad you're alive," I whispered. I could feel her chuckle before I released her. Realizing she was just as beautiful as Michael had described her, she was an angel on earth."I heard Michael's getting married. How are you holding up?" I let out a little laugh as I sighed deeply. "I guess I've been holding on to him for too long. Besides, my marriage with him was only for a stated period of time. Nothing special happened between us," I lied, knowing everything that happened

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again   Protected a monster

Chapter 141 Michael's POVAs we stepped out of the car into Grandpa's estate, I couldn't stop feeling down and scared. I felt a wave of cold breeze wash over me as I paused. "Michael?" Jason called me while my face was bent towards the floor as I blamed myself for everything. Freya was right; if I had believed in Raymond for once, he wouldn't have had to die. I tightened my eyes as I folded my fist, controlling how much anger I felt towards Ambrose, and I vowed to make him pay; he was going to pay for everything he's done."It's not your fault," Freya's soothing voice cut me from my thought. I didn't know why she was getting me confused or why she suddenly cared about me. "Raymond's death has nothing to do with..." "Don't lie to yourself, Freya; don't patronize me. You said it clearly, that he died because of me," I snapped, shutting her up completely as I forced a smile before I left her standing together with Jason as I walked into Grandpa's main mansion."Michael, oh no! Tell me i

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again   We're here to mourn the dead

Chapter 140Freya's POV.....Twenty minutes laterRaymond's death felt like the end had come. I couldn't imagine watching the ever-energetic man lying motionless and lifeless with no breath in him. It felt like he was trying to say a word to me when I saw his hand suddenly sliding from my face. "Raymond," I wept slowly, never knowing that I would one day cry for a person like him."My child..." I heard my mom's tender voice as I looked beside her, not finding anyone. "Where's Waylen?" I panicked, my eyes scanning around her and even to the person behind her. "He just fell asleep. He's been taken to his grandpa's home and..." "Mother... we are all leaving as soon as Raymond's funeral arrangement has been made. I wouldn't want my son having anything to do with the Jenkins or the Smiths," I said, my tone measured and cold.Mum wanted to speak but was cut short by the mortuary attendant who came out with some things I couldn't even relate to; it wasn't my fault, I'd never had any reason t

  • The contract marriage: falling for a billionaire again    Gone but never forgotten

Chapter 139Michael's POVEven as I felt the pain from the shot on my feet, it wasn't comparable to how I felt when Ambrose had taken possession of Freya. A lot of questions kept popping up in my head as I couldn't stop wondering why Freya had held her stomach. But then, my priority was to save her and everyone who had come along with me.When the gate exploded and the cops went in, I knew this would be the greatest opportunity to seize everything Ambrose had held. This was us winning, this was us leaving him to his miserable fate. But then, it wasn't the case here after the gunshot."Nooooo!!!" Freya screamed as a part of me went down immediately. The other person who had assisted me in standing had been shot and was lying in a pool of blood."Drop the gun now or I'll shoot!" Ambrose still threatened, pointing the gun towards one of the cops who didn't slack in his work. As he shot Ambrose's gun, it fell, falling from his hand. But then, I was just too scared to look back at the pers
