23. The confrontation

The summons come again tonight. I see the single message on the paper that Ken delivered and for the first time, I want to turn down the summons. I’m mentally drained. I’ve honestly been through a lot today, seen and heard alot and I would like some more time to sort my mind and try to figure out my next move.

But I remember one of his three rules, that I will always come when he calls and I get dressed. I think about talking to him about what I discovered, but I’m not stupid enough not to know that I’ll be putting all seven of them in more danger.

I knock on the door at midnight and he gets it. When I see him, all of my worries and my anxiety melts away in the face of the small smile on his lips.
