“Now, you, per favore, don’t play these games with me. Nothing is going to change how much I love my sister or how far I’m willing to go to protect her.”

“You’re a good girl, Jerry. You deserve the best in life.” I glanced at her belly. “Your baby, too. That’s why, to ease your stress for his or her sake, I’ll let you see her.”

I nodded for her to follow me as I rounded my desk. Eagerly she came with me, and I pressed a keyboard button to bring the feed to the screen.

“Ella,” she gasped.

Jerry suddenly stopped crying. Mamma’s boy. A little traitor like her. “As you can see she’s in good condition, has food on the table, living in a fully equipped, comfortable room.” I turned off the feed, and as if on cue, Ella cried again. “Anything else?”

She ran a hand through her hair with a sigh. “Thank you.”

“Are you sure? You don’t want to plead someone else’s case? You know, like your husband who’s been shot in the chest…by me?”
