"Kill her!"
"Kill her!"
"Kill her!"
Those were the words chanted by the people present at the trial ground.
They chanted it repeatedly, loudly, angrily as though they would not be heard clearly if they didn't.
As though they would not be heard by their King, who was seated on his high throne, seething with a hardly-controlled angry aura.
Whereas the council of Alphas and elders seated below his throne at both sides, the Alphas on the right and the Elders on the left looked up to the King in fearful anticipation of what the King, who had his eyes trained on the girl bound in chains at the centre of the courtroom, would do.
“Pl…please… Please…” The chained girl pleaded.
She was covered from head to toe in bruises and could barely stand on her two feet, much less talk properly.
"Pl…please, my king," She pleaded crookedly before coughing blood out violently from her mouth.
"Please… I'm no spy…It is all a lie," She cried out, struggling against the chains that bound her hands and legs together.
Immediately after she spoke, an elder of the council furiously stood to his feet and exclaimed, "Lies…Lies, my King," He pointed an accusing finger at her while facing the King as he continued, "This b***h tells lies. She was caught in the act of sending out information concerning our kingdom to the outside world. She would have succeeded in sending the message if it weren't for our sharp discernment."
“N…no m…my King, that’s not true…I…I didn't… I'm no spy…." The girl shook her head in denial as tears streamed down her face.
She wished deep down that someone, anyone, would believe her and would come to her aid.
But no one… not a single person was willing to come to her aid.
Nobody would listen to her nor help her out.
She knew that no matter how much she denied being a spy, they would not believe her because she was indeed caught in the act.
She regretted it now.
She regretted it all.
She deeply regretted listening to him and doing his bidding.
If only...
If only she hadn't listened to him and succumbed to the fear and threats, she would not be in her current situation.
If only she had refused firmly to do his bidding, then perhaps, she could have escaped this tragic turnout. But she knew that it was all wishful thinking and that she was given no choice.
It was either she did as told or her family's life; at that time, she could think of no other way out but to do as told.
However, if she had known that it would come to this, she wouldn't have yielded and instead tried to find a way out.
But it was too late now because who would believe her words now?
Who among these people will believe her if she says she was actually forced to do it, that it was against her wish, that she was forced to do it?
She knew no one would; hence all she could do was to keep denying the charges and hopeful she would not be sentenced to death.
That's all she could ever wish for now.
Resolving to her fate, she quietly whispered with much agony, "Please, my king, I'm not a spy…I swear on my life that I'm…" but she was cut off by the sharp, angry words of the Elder that seemed to be dead set to get her executed.
"Shut your stinking, rotting mouth! The Queen took you in with open arms and allowed you to dwell in our midst despite our being against allowing strangers among us. We overlooked that and allowed you in, not knowing you were working for the enemy and plotting against us. She treated you as her own and cared for you even more than she did for her people. Because of this, there had been some disagreement within the palace and court. Because of you, we now face the danger of the enemy knowing every one of our strategies. If only the Queen had listened to us to get rid of you when we were against your staying here, all this would not have happened. I blame the Que…."
"SILENCE!" The King's angry outburst cut the Elder off.
The girl shook in fear and lowered her head, not daring to raise it in fear of what would become of her if she did now that the King had finally spoken after she was brought before the court.
It was not only the girl that shuddered from the sudden outburst of the King, everyone present did, and before one knew it, there was complete silence in the court.
It was as though the room that was filled with angry shouts and protests of the people a few minutes ago was just an illusion.
Everywhere was so quiet that if a pin were to be dropped at that moment, everyone would hear it fall.
Everyone except the girl turned to look in the direction of the King only to see that he was looking at the Elder with an angry gaze as though he would pounce on him the next minute.
Everyone held their breath and traced their gazes to the Elder, who was visibly shaking as he had also noticed the King's angry gaze on him.
Everyone, including him, wondered what was happening and what could have triggered the King to make such outbursts against him.
Because it was apparent that the King's command was directed towards him and not the girl who was supposed to be at the receiving end of it.
"My…My King… I…” The elder stammered in fright.
"What an insolent!" The King glared at him with so much anger.
"My…My King… I… I beg your pardon, but I don't know what I may have done to incur your wrath," The Elder stammered in total confusion.
"Is that so? Then I dare you to complete that statement of yours!"
On hearing the King's words, the Elder realised his mistake and immediately went to his knees in regret."Your Majesty, I'm sorry… I beg for your mercy… I don't know what made me think I can talk in such a manner." The Elder said hurriedly with his head bowed to the floor, scared that the King would lash out at and devour him on the spot. The King eyed him angrily before diverting his gaze away from him before he lost control and pounced on him."Get the f**k out of my sight," He said irritatingly."Yes… yes… my King. Thank you for your kind gesture, my king" The Elder scrambled to his feet and moved away from the King's sight to the back of the crowd. As he found a perfect place to stay, a sinister smile crossed his face briefly before it was wiped off the next minute as though it was never there before. He would have left out of anger and humiliation, but he decided to stay behind to see what would become of the girl.To him, it would be best if she was sentenced to death because it
The King was the most resilient among them all, as he maintained his calm and gait attitude throughout the Prince’s words. The only time he reacted was when the Prince cut him off initially. He silently watched and listened as the Prince talked without telling him to stop. However, as the Prince kept talking, he began questioning the reason behind his action. He knows his son too well to know that he would not do something of this nature publicly if it were not of great importance. When the Prince finished talking, salience befell the entire court as everyone waited in great anticipation for the King’s reaction. The silence elongated for a few minutes before the King finally cleared his throat, thereby breaking the silence.Everyone inhaled sharply as they watched the King slowly stand up from his throne and walk with unbothered steps toward the Prince. Two things crossed their mind at that moment. The first was…Oh no, the Prince is in trouble. He had succeeded in getting the King an
Hearing that, Elder Varlam fell on his knees and quickly said, “No…no, Your Majesty, I… I wouldn’t dare to… I would…”The King cut him off again, “You would, what?”The King crouched before him to be on the same level as the Elder before grabbing his chin between his fingers. “Seems I’ve been quite lenient with how you seem gutsy in confronting me with your words. Your words show that you are not satisfied with how I rule my Kingdom, and you have your opinion on how it should be done.” As the King spoke, his grip on Elder Varlam’s chin tightened.“No… no, your majesty, that’s not what I… I never intend….”“It seems quite well that that was your intention. If not, you would not have returned to show your face before me after I told you to get the f*ck out of my sight. It seems you are eager to know what I am capable of doing to those that go against me. I can do so by starting with you. What do you say?”“Y…your Majesty, I…I beg your pardon if I’ve offended you w…with my words and acti
“I’ve known for a while now. Almost immediately after, she was captured and mistaken as a thief.” The Prince answered reluctantly, understanding what the King meant by his question, saying, Hearing his son’s reply, the King came to a halt and looked at him with a questioning gaze, asking, “Then why didn’t you mention it before now? Why did you keep it to yourself? Why did it take you so long to come out with it since you found out that early? Are you ashamed of a human as your mate? Is that why you didn’t say anything? If so, your mother and I raised you better than that.” The King bombarded him with question after the other.“No, Father, I’m not ashamed of her being my mate.” He heaved out a frustrated sigh and rubbed his face with both hands before continuing, “At first, the signs and bond weren’t vital enough for me to confirm it, and it took me a few weeks of several encounters to be sure. When I was certain of it and was on my way to locate her, I saw her being forced by someon
DivyaFear, anticipation, hope, fear again, sadness, rejection, regret, anxiety, apprehension, and several others were what Divya repeatedly felt as the guards took her back to the dungeon cell that she was in before she was summoned to the court before the King. The cell was her nightmare because, in there, she had been tortured to the core with various excruciating tools that she had ever seen.Hence, the thought of the guards using those tools on her again made her shiver in fear as they walked the corridor leading to her cell.Though she was just an omega from one of the poorest packs in the Kingdom, she had never seen torturous instruments like those used on her. Despite her being an omega, she had never imagined she would end up being in her current situation.Well… that was before she was approached, forced, and sent to work in the Palace as a spy. After she entered the Palace and saw how lovely and kind they were towards each other and to her, guilt, regret, and fear were at t
As she reminisced in pain about her life, hurried footsteps drew her attention back to the present. Scared, she curled, drew closer to the shadows of the walls, and tried to make herself as invisible as possible. However, pain ignited all over her body as she did so, making her let out a strangled whimper. Her body was completely bruised and was not healing as it should have since she was a werewolf, but that wasn’t a surprise for her since she was a late bloomer and had yet to shift. But she wasn’t sure if truly she was a late bloomer or she was just unfortunate not to have a wolf. Though her family tried to hide it in their pack that she was yet to shift, one way or the other, it got out, which was also one of the reasons they were treated harsher than they were supposed to be treated. But she was already used to it. Shaking her head, she brushed aside her thoughts and tried to listen to what was happening around her while anxiously awaiting what was coming next. However, afte
Dante POVI was furious, ranging in uncontrollable anger the moment I stepped into the dungeon and smelt her blood in the air. Before I knew it, my Lycan had taken control from me and dashed towards the person who had attacked her and tore him into pieces without care.Just a minute later, and it would have been too late.Too late to save her.Shredding him had no effect in calming my Lycan, and as I was about to go berserker and look for my next victim, the sight of my mate falling backward, thereby bringing me out of my raging state.I rushed toward her before she could hit her head on the floor and caught her in my arms.Seeing as she was unconscious and hardly breathing, fear gripped my heart, and I called out for someone to call the doctor without having it in my that I could contact him through mind link, which was faster. However, that didn't cross my mind. I was focused on her breathing and hoped she survived as I hurriedly carried her out of the dungeon and straight to my cha
Audree's PovGrowing up, the burden of inheriting my mum's powers had been on my shoulders.Burnes I never wanted or asked of in the first place. My multiple abilities started showcasing themselves when Mother was still unconscious, and I had foreseen her waking when I was at the age of five, six, or seven; I can't really remember what age I was then. Then the next was hearing animals talk, at first to my younger self, it was pretty fun because I had lots of friends to talk to and was never bored, but as I grew older, I found it annoying because I had to hear everything talk around even when I wanted quietness. Especially when I had not learned to control it and had to listen to animals, even insects talking. I grew to hate it and also didn't find any use for it.Other abilities I discovered were the ability to control elements such as air, water, fire, earth, and so on.Then on my sixteenth birthday, I developed physical enhancement like Mother did. I completely changed into a younge
