King Arthur the third of Emerald stood before the people of his kingdom. He had called a meeting for all to attend. Everyone came running. The king was not one to call meetings if there was no need to. He called them because there was a need for them.
Never just for social visits. The nobles, wealthy and known men and women came as many as they could to see what their king had called them there for. Even some of the peasant families made it . They too were curious and keen to know what this good king of theirs had to say. Even if it was going to cost them a leg and a toe to repay the traveling costs of the coaches they went with. King Arthur cleared his throat. "My good people. My subjects I'd like to first thank you all for honoring the request I made to all of you." He began to address his people. "I am not going to take much of all your time because I know you are all busy people with busy schedules." He reassured as he made his people even more keen to know what it really was that this king was going to say today. "I am king." He stated the obvious. Which the people were smiling at but inside were quite annoyed now by their king. They wanted him to get to the point already. Which seemed to be difficult for him. He started off with making jokes, talking about the position of the sun these days and many things that did not yet concern what he wanted to say here today. It was not until much later. When the good people of Emerald had given up on ever hearing what this was all about that he began to talk. "I am not getting any younger." He was only twenty. But to the kingdom and many people's eyes he was almost seventy. "I realize that I need to have a successor. An heir. Someone who will take over my throne when I am no more", this was surprising in deed. People were not expecting this from their king. The king has always been adamant on waiting until the right time. That he would not just marry for the sake of heirs. That he would marry for love. Now it seemed the king had changed his tune and mind. "I am to marry on the next red moonlight. To the one that will be recognized as your queen. And my wife. Thank you . " With those last words the great elephant of the kingdom left the room. Not leaving his burden. People were asking each other questions. "How? Last time I knew he was focused on the kingdom when was he thinking about marriage? ""Even if he was thinking about it. Why did he just tell us? Red moonlight is in three days!""Meaning he already has a woman in mind "To say everyone was confused about this was putting lightly. Everyone had no idea what to do with these news. This was definitely not what they had come to the palace expecting to hear. Yes they wanted their king to marry but their King was rather stubborn and they have him the benefit of his young age that he still had time to settle down and give him an heir. They never knew that this day would be today. Surely it was not their encouraging that made him to change his mind so soon.
It had to be something else. Something that he was not telling them. Maybe keeping it as a secret from them. But what could it be? "Surely it is not love", one of the gossips said as they walked to their coach with their friends on hand. "He doesn't seem like the type to fall in love be is so-so and he likes to talk to his friend than any of the young ladies. I do not think it is love." "Could never never be love!" One of the friends said with confidence. "Who would marry anyone so fast if they loved them?! And on the red moonlight? Who would do that?" She shook her head. "Maybe the king do not quote me but I think maybe he could have made a bastard somewhere and now he's trying to cover it up with a wedding. That would explain the whole ' heir ' thing he was talking about during his speech."***
"Who are you marrying?" Michael Vick, the most trusted knight by the king asked as he stood in front of Arthur who only gave him a sad look. "I am to die in two years." This was the first person he was telling this to. The first person he was unleashing his burden to. "If I do not get married then my family which has ruled over this kingdom for ions will be wiped out of the throne's existence. I have to marry. So I can get an heir ". Michael was silent his eyes still staring directly into the king's. If any of the others did this they would be punished. The king was like a god. He couldn't be looked at on the eyes. It was regarded as disrespect. At the highest order if it so as well was a low person in status and title doing this. But Michael was allowed to. The king was the one who couldn't keep his gaze. "For how long have you known?" This was Michael's first question after the silence. To which the king replied to with his head looking down. "Three years ."Michael's breath hinged. "What do you mean three years?" He was greatly disturbed and heartbroken that Arthur could keep such a thing to himself. To not even tell him something like that broke his heart and soul. If Arthur couldn't trust anyone he could at least trust him with his life. "I went to a healer about three years ago when I had those headaches. I didn't think nothing of it. It seemed like just some annoying pain that needed to go away. So I went to see the healer. Ready to put an end to it. But he told me that I had Radat. It's a brain disease. It slowly kills the brain from the inside. Until there's nothing left. And then I die. I asked him if there was no cure for it but he didn't know. Said he had never dealt with it before. "This made Michael furious. "You asked only one healer?! There's so many! I could have accompanied you to everyone of them"The king laughed. A long shallow laugh. "You think I'm stupid? Mike I asked three thousand healers and they told me the same thing. Some telling me what a miracle it was that I was still alive. So I am very sure that I am going to join my ancestors soon "Michael didn't believe it. "We can consult more. I know some of the best. We shouldn't give up now."Arthur shook his head. "No. I will not increase my torment by doing that. Three thousand people who don't even know each can't say the same thing so it can't be false. I have accepted it. It's time for you to now. ""How can I accept this?!" He shook his head violently. "Three thousand can lie! They all could have some agenda. Maybe they want you dead. I refuse to believe that you will die so soon. I vowed I would protect you from everything. From every threat. You can not die now. "King Arthur smirked sighing. "Yes you vowed you would protect me. And you have. Every threat to my life has been fought by you. I am alive now because of you. Your dedication and you being a man of your word has been the reason I have lived this long. I thank you for that. But this. This you cannot fight."Michael did not have words to say. So he chose to leave the throne room. Without even getting his answer for his first question. He still did not know who his king was marrying. ***The wedding was a rushed and a small affair. Most people did not want to come because they did not want to see this lucky person. This chosen one. This woman who would have it all. Have the respect, the power and the wealth. Not forgetting the crown. They were jealous of all the things she'd end up having. Those who were there wanted to finally put a face on the mystery of this wife. This queen of theirs. But they had no such luck. The queen's veil did not reveal anything. Not even when they kissed did she get to be seen by the people. It frustrated people even the more when she and the king retreated to the inside of the palace. Leaving everyone with opened mouths. It had been a lake wedding. The whole reason the kingdom was called Emerald kingdom was because of the lake. The shine, colour and beauty of it only reminded people of emeralds. "Why won't she be seen?" One complained. She was here only for the big reveal of the queen. Only to just be like those who had not
Michael was at the training grounds fighting with his dragon Jenkins. It was a crafty creature that did not use its fire until the very last moment. Michael knew this and he wanted to time it just right. He had his sword on his left hand swinging it smugly in order to cause the dragon an early release of that fire feared by all. Usually dragons did not like mortals acting smug to them so they always wanted to strike first when they saw that they were being disrespected. They saw themselves as the kings of kings. They had been alive for centuries. While the mortals only lived for years and then died ever so quickly. Jenkins was not so easily fooled. He could take this just like any great soldier. He would strike when necessary. Michael huffed. Only causing amusement from Jenkins."Fine then" Michael said in a battle cry his sword aimed directly at Jenkins who would not be swayed. He went to run and could see his target . His audience was captivated. His mother was nodding her head loo
Michael was asleep on his bed in his bedroom when he heard the door open. Him being a light sleeper opened his eyes ready to draw out his sword if this was a danger. But he was put to an ease when he came eye to eye with Arthur. He sat up from bed. His hands rubbing at his eyes. He pulled out his sword from the other side of his bed. Placing it on the little table close to his bed."My king. What brings you here?"Arthur had no answer for him. He should have been with his wife. It was nightfall but he couldn't seem to be able to force himself to go sleep in his bedroom . The bedroom that had his wife in. It had only been a few hours since they had gotten married. The queen was still not seen by anyone because she stayed where her husband left her. She still waited for his return but the king didn't return. Even now instead of being with her he was in his knight's bedroom .He stalked the bed. Michael didn't quite know how to react to him. This was not the king's first time in this roo
Like a vulture Michael ate the remains of the cake. It was too delicious for him to leave it just at a slice. That was why he ate the whole thing. It was a cake meant for the king. His mother had baked it especially just for the king who she knew had a sweet tooth. Her son and the king had been best friends for a very long time. This gave the cunning woman to know everything she had to know about the great king. His dislikes and likes were in her memory. Even sleeping she would tell you how he liked his tea and how he hated his meat."Mother what did you put in this? It's really good", he complimented as he licked his fingers making sure there was no lingering taste. "No wonder Arthur loves it so much ."His mother had not said a word just looked at her son. Observing him with her sharp eyes. He had not noticed this before. He had been too concerned in what he was eating than on his mother who was known of her unstoppable tongue. She could speak until you the one who was l
Arthur smiled. Joking was allowed. People could play with things. Maybe Michael thought he could play about this too. "Mike let's go to sleep. You must be tired". Michael's face changed. "Sleep?! Arthur did you not hear me? I am pregnant! I am carrying your baby! And you're telling me about sleep. I'm not sleeping. I am going to stand here until you hear me.""Mike what are you saying? And why are you shouting? I have two ears. And I am here standing in front of you tell me calmly what is happening."Michael took Arthur's hand. Taking it to his stomach. "This is your child. You placed him there.""You are serious?" Arthur asked now taking this whole thing very seriously. "Mike you can't joke with things like this""Would I really joke with something like this?! Don't you know me Arthur?" He pushed the king away from him. Turning to walk away only to be stopped by Arthur who held him from behind. "I'm sorry. Sorry that I am stupid. Sorry that I didn't believe you. Everythi
She was sure that her grandson was alright. He wouldn't be hurt by something so little. But she had to be sure. But even saw she had to check to make sure that truly everything was as it should with the little prince. She felt with her hands on Michael's stomach. Michael was biting at his finger nails. He bit his finger nails when he was nervous. As she had thought. Nothing was wrong with the baby. But she didn't say that to her son. "Do you see what you almost cost?!""What? Mom did I hurt him?" His eyes were blinking rapidly. His breathing going on overdrive. "Will he be okay? It's just been a week. ..will he-"Mona immediately regretted playing with her son like this. "Sorry dear. I was just making sure you won't do it again. You might not get this lucky next time. ""So he's fine?""Yes as healthy as can be."Michael threw a cookie to his mother's direction. "Mona don't do that! What if I had a heart attack here?" He brushed his not yet visible stomach. Glad th
Michael heard the screams upstairs. The midwives were there with Riya. Arthur continued to wrap Michael into his arms as they cuddled on the bed. "Arthur your wife is in labour" he reminded. "So?""What do you mean so? She is your wife. She is giving birth to your son. Your heir. The heir to the kingdom. You should be there."Arthur kissed Michael's neck. "Too kind. "Michael did not understand people telling him this. He wasn't kind just sensitive to things that happened around him."That woman has midwives looking after her she is going to be fine. Plus I married her because she is strong enough not to die in childbirth."Michael breathed holding his stomach. "Auh..hn""What is wrong?" Arthur asked quickly. Worry on his features. He and Michael sat up on bed. Michael held his hand. "Arthur call my mother.""What is happening? Are you okay?"'Ahh!" Michael screamed again. Squeezing Arthur's hand. "Call my mom! "Mona was a midwife. Michael didn't want anyone else helping
Two months later..."Garry my beautiful baby." Michael kissed the baby on his arms. As Arthur presented them to the crowd of people that came to witness this. "It's been long overdue. Too bad it took me almost dying and getting married to a sea witch to realize that I had everything I needed right next to me. My everything. My husband. And my co-king. I love you Michael." Yet again he made Michael blush without even trying. "I do not care about your opinions on the matter. All I wanted to address is that this man right here. This special gift that the gods have given me gave me a son. An heir. Your future king." The people went silent. Listening to their king's words. None spoke anything. Some had already accepted it. That this was how their kingdom would be now. It would be run by two kings. And that was that. But others were still stubborn stuck in the old ways as if they would help them move ahead in life. But nonetheless no one stopped the king's speech. "I give
