Chloe and I sat cross-legged in the middle of her bed, bent over a stack of papers, some crumpled, some straightened, as we discussed names between ourselves. Chloe was elated when I told her that I had finally decided to start the catering business we'd been talking so much about.

When I asked for her help in picking out a name, drafting a proposal, and doing all of the basics that starting a business would require, Chloe jumped on it. It was what she did for a living anyway so it only made sense that she would handle this for me.

I tried and failed to convince her to let me pay for her services, and insisted that this didn't count as work. We were just having fun and making good use of our hands and brains while at it.

There were springs in her feet that showed how excited she was for me. It wasn't that I had expected any less, It was in fact that her infectious joy was a reminder that despite the brief lull that we'd had when Chloe suddenly disappeared into her shell, my best frien

  • To Love Again   Chapter 127

Walker’s call came in at 8:00am on Friday; 4 hours ahead of the 24 hours I gave him. That was Walker, efficient as hell. I was still in bed though I had barely gotten any sleep all night. My thumb jabbed the answer button. I was sitting up before the phone reached my ear."Walker. Talk to me. Did you find her? Where is she?" My voice sounded rough, like I’d swallowed sand. It was a the voice of frustration. His voice was flat, like always. "I’ve got something. You know the black van you said she was taken away in? I found it. It’s registered to a guy named Marcus Delaney. He lives out .""Delaney? Is he involved? Where is he?" I was already swinging my legs out of bed, the cold floor biting into my bare feet. My mind raced. I could go there now. I would find him. Find…"Unlikely," Walker cut in, breaking my thoughts. "The van was reported stolen two days before Marissa was taken. The owner filed a police report."Stolen?" Disappointment warred with the flicker of hope that had risen i

  • To Love Again   Chapter 126

There was only one person that I knew who could find a man even if he was hidden under a rock. It was the same person who’d found Anthony out when he started that ill thought-out sabotage against Kingston Enterprise. Walker. We kept Walker around for purposes such as this. He didn’t like to be seen much so we never met physically. He didn’t like to speak much too. All Walker needed was the tiniest of details and he would find out whatever you needed him to find out. So now as I texted him the details of the black van that Marissa had been taken away in, I let myself be a little hopeful. Just a little hopeful. If there was anyone who could find Marissa, it was Walker. No one knew where he got his information, and one asked. As he always said, he had his way.On it, boss. Give me a few days.I glanced at my phone as his response popped up on the screen.I don’t have a few days, Walker. I need you to find her in 24 hours. His response came almost immediately after. On it.I didn’t doubt

Chapter 124Jordan's POVThree days!It had been three more days since Marissa had gone missing. Two days since her mother had shown up at the door to announce that Anthony was out of jail. Two days since I'd been turning all of New York city over in search of the woman I'd come to love so much that the mere thought of living without her has continued to squeeze painfully at my heart.Caleb had infact confirmed that Anthony had been released from jail. First, the warders had tried to play innocent. They'd claimed not to have an idea who or what Caleb was talking about, but a name drop, revealing him as a Kingston, and a single threat to have them all thrown in the same cell Anthony had occupied only days before had them rethinking their answers. In the end, they had admitted to having let him go after his lawyer provided a Magistrate's order of release. That didn't make much sense to me when Caleb relayed it to me hours later. It didn't make much sense to him either. I was certain tha

It hurt to sit there, powerless and look up only to be greeted with a gleeful smile on Layla's traitorous face. She'd come in with Anthony this time. I hadn't seen her since that first day when she'd come to rub her betrayal in my face.Anthony stood behind her, an eerily calm look on his face. He was dressed in a navy blue shirt and clean jeans. He always did like to look clean… good, even. Like all was perfect with him. It's the people in his life that he treated like trash, not the things he bought with his money. No, he treasured those. His gaze swept over me where I sat crouched on the floor. Hadn't he said before that my weakness was pathetic? Well, now he could enjoy taking in the view of my pathetic self. He smiled. Probably at how small I looked sitting there. In truth, I wasn't sure I had much fight left in me. “Well, look at that,” he said. “She finally ate.”I didn’t respond. I let my eyes drop, made my shoulders hunch just slightly. I had a mission, and if this was going

  • To Love Again   Chapter 123

Marissa's POVI didn't know how many days it had been in here. The days wore on drearily. I was aware that I'd spent more than mere hours in here but I couldn't say just how long it had been. The only way I measured the hours was by the faint shift in temperature. I saw that it was warmer when the sun was probably up, colder when night crept in. There was no window, no clock, no sound except the occasional footsteps outside the bolted door, and the uneven dripping from a pipe somewhere nearby.I sat with my knees pulled up to my chest, my back against the wall. The floor beneath me was hard, damp in some places, and my legs ached from staying in the same curled position for too long. My wrists hurt. He hadn't tied me up, not physically, but every corner of this room was like a shackle. And the silence! Oh, the silence was loud. It was deafening. It was maddening. There was a tray on the floor a few feet away from me. A single slice of bread and half a bottle of water. They'd given me

  • To Love Again   Chapter 122

I was at the door in a millisecond.“What did you know, Elizabeth?"The panic in her eyes had my heart beating faster than it had ever beat, but I struggled for calm. No need getting worked up now when I didn't know what she was talking about. When she didn't respond to my question, I asked her again and her panicked eyes came to rest on mine before she spoke.“It's Anthony. It's him. I knew he was up to no good!"Chloe rolled her eyes and looked to me as if to say, I just knew we couldn't trust her.“What the hell are you talking about?” Chloe asked. “Anthony is in jail and will be for a couple more months so what do you mean it's…”"It's him! I swear it. Believe me, I know what I'm saying.”My ears were ringing with rage, and I tried desperately to cling to the calm I'd mustered earlier."Calm down, Elizabeth, and tell us exactly what you know." I said. "He called me! Yesterday morning. At first, I didn't know who it was, but then he called me his favorite ally and asked if I was w
