Damon’s POV

Lucas turned to Junia, his expression softening the moment his eyes landed on her.

“Are you hurt anywhere?” he asked quietly, gently taking hold of her wrist to inspect it. “Did he hurt you?”

The concern in his voice almost made me sick. It was fake. It had to be. Deep down, I knew they were only putting on an act to make me jealous. There was no way Junia could have fallen for him in just four months.

Junia shook her head before looking at me with cold eyes. “Instead of following m

"Covering for him?" I repeated, my voice dropping into a dangerously quiet register that mirrored his own. "Are you seriously asking me that right now?"Lucas didn't flinch. He stood at the base of the stairs, broad-shouldered and imposing, his dark eyes searching my face with a cold, analytical intensity that felt like a slap."It's a straightforward question, Junia," Lucas said softly, though the edge in his baritone remained razor-sharp. "You built Carter Group from the ground up. You knew every ledger, every invoice, and every secret account Damon held. Yet when we drafted our contract to strip his assets, you conveniently omitted the offshore accounts in the Cayman holdings. Accounts that are currently being used to keep his firm afloat."A sharp, humorless laugh escaped my lips. I took a slow step down the stairs, closing the distance between us until I was looking him directly in the eye."I omitted them," I said, my chest heaving with suppressed fury, "because I didn't know ab

The next morning, I arrived at my office to find a giant vase of fresh lilies sitting directly in the middle of my mahogany desk. I paused at the threshold, my brows drawing together as I walked over and picked up the card tucked between the white petals. *“To my genius. Stay as beautiful as these lilies are. — Damon.”* A bitter, disbelieving laugh escaped my lips. I extended the card as far away from my body as possible, staring at the arrangement in complete disbelief. Did Damon genuinely believe that a bunch of flowers would make me forget about years of emotional abuse, corporate theft, and fraud? Worse yet—he had managed to do the absolute bare minimum while proving, once again, how little he had ever paid attention to me. In all seven years of our marriage, the man hadn't even bothered to learn that I was deathly allergic to lilies. Anger surged through my chest, hot and sharp. Before the pollen could trigger a fit of sneezing, I stepped forward to dump the entire vase into

By the time I returned to my office, I was both relieved and shocked. Why had Maya let it go so easily? She wasn’t the type to back down without a fight. The way she had spoken to me… it was as if she had become a completely different person. She had even asked if I had seen my husband. My husband. I smiled to myself. The Maya I knew had never been able to say that word so casually. Had she finally accepted everything? Maybe she really had changed. Either way, I was glad we were talking again like sisters.Suddenly, there was a knock on my office door. “Ma’am,” one of the employees said respectfully, “there are several people waiting to meet with you.”“Alright. Give me their details.”I glanced through the list. My eyes stopped on one name. Damon Carter. I scoffed. So he had finally received my email. “I’m sure he thinks his friend is still in charge,” I muttered. “Put Mr. Carter last.”The employee hesitated. “But, ma’am… he was the first to arrive.”I slowly lifted my head. “I said

I had taken longer than usual to return to the office because Lucas had insisted on driving me there. But I wasn’t going to let that happen. It would blow our cover far too quickly. When I arrived, everyone looked at me strangely. Was it because I was late? Or because I was still new and had already taken several days off? One thing about me, though, was that I cared very little about what people thought. Ignoring the curious stares, I quietly made my way to my office.I let out a slow sigh as I settled behind my desk. The stack of Sinclair Enterprises files waiting for me was enormous, so I began reviewing the company’s financial records one by one. The deeper I looked, the more shocked I became. Almost all the funding that had helped Damon expand his company had come from Sinclair Enterprises. How was that even possible? I was the one who had spent countless sleepless nights building Damon’s company, yet when I traced the financial records more carefully, I discovered that he had be

15“Lucas…”I looked at him as he gently pressed a warm towel against my forehead.“Hm?” he responded without looking up, his attention fixed on me.“I’m not feeling that bad,” I said softly. “Please, this really isn’t—”“Hey, Junia,” he interrupted politely. He finally looked at me, his expression calm but firm. “How am I supposed to explain to Mr. and Mrs. Larson that their daughter developed a high fever under my watch?” He paused before adding, “Besides, your hair is still cold and damp. Junia… please, let me bring your fever down.”I sighed, a small smile tugging at my lips. Apart from my parents, no one had ever taken care of me like this. No one. I had always been the one taking care of everyone else. Then my smile slowly faded as Maya crossed my mind. She had left the house because of me. She probably thought I didn’t care about her anymore. As though he had read my thoughts, Lucas spoke quietly. “Junia.”I looked up.“Maya will come around.” His voice remained steady. “You we

It’s a simple question, Maya,” Junia said, her voice smooth, level, and entirely devoid of anger. “Mrs. Carter was remarkably well-informed about our living arrangements tonight. Aside from the household staff, who answered directly to Lucas long before I arrived, you are the only person who roams this house freely at all hours.”I sighed. I knew nothing about this whole thing. I let out a small scoff. “Junia, how could you accuse me of that?” My voice trembled as I looked pleadingly toward Lucas. “I’m your cousin! I’ve done nothing but support you through your divorce! Lucas, you know me. I would never gossip about your private life to Damon’s family!”“She knew about our office interactions. She knew about our rooms.”“Stop, Junia,” I cut in. I had already noticed she no longer interacted with me the way she did when she first arrived. Maybe she didn’t need me anymore. “I won’t sit here and watch you tarnish my name in front of Lucas. He may be your husband, but he’s my boss too. I
