It's my husband, Niall Luther's birthday. I take my son to the hospital to visit Niall since he's working late; I want to surprise him. However, we get into an accident on the way there. When I rush to the hospital with my bloodied son in my arms, I see Niall holding his first love's daughter. He coos at her and says, "This might be a small wound, but there's a risk of infection if it isn't handled well!" His first love, Chelsea Blanc, gives him a chiding look. "You treat Lulu so well that I'm getting jealous." Niall wraps an arm around her. "It's only because I love you. You're the one I love the most." I pull out my phone and call him. He keeps his arm around Lulu White and rejects my call. So, I text him, telling him our son is injured and has been taken to the hospital where he works. I tell him he needs to attend to our son. However, he berates me for lying. I have no choice but to take my son elsewhere for treatment. Before leaving, I see Niall kiss Chelsea tenderly and tell her he wants to take her to an amusement park. That's when I know he and I are over.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

I did not expect to get into a sudden car accident while taking my son to the hospital to celebrate my husband's birthday.

There was a hideous wound on my son's forehead from where glass shards had cut into it. His face was covered with blood.

I frantically called my husband for help.

"Stop calling me, or I'm filing for divorce!" my husband, Niall Luther, bellowed over the phone.

I let my hands fall limply at my sides as I told my son, "Daddy's really busy. Let's find another doctor to treat your wounds first."

My son nodded sensibly. "It's okay, Mommy. It doesn't hurt!"

Despite his words, the wound on his forehead was two inches long, and one could almost catch a glimpse of bone peeking from the gap.

How could it not hurt?

My eyes reddened involuntarily, but I looked up to catch sight of Niall standing inside one of the hospital rooms.

Was he not busy?

I could not resist stepping closer and just so happened to see him helping Chelsea Blanc's daughter—Lulu White—disinfect her wound with a cotton ball.

"Oh dear, how did you get hurt?" Niall was asking. "You know what they say, girls should avoid getting scars on their bodies. Does it hurt?"

Lulu replied innocently, "It doesn't hurt anymore now that Mr. Niall's here to see me."

Chelsea hugged him from behind, smiling. "Shayla called you just now to tell you that your son's gotten into an accident. Are you really not going to see them?"

Niall immediately frowned at the mention of my name. "Stop mentioning her! She's full of lies! Cyrus was just fine, so how could he have suddenly gotten into an accident?

"It's all just a ploy to get my attention!"

Chelsea's voice was filled with concern as she asked, "Still, wouldn't it be better to give them a call? What if something really did happen to them?"

At that, Niall impatiently picked up his phone and called someone from the same medical department as him.

Moments later, he nearly crushed his phone tightly as he spat, "I told you that woman was lying! There were no accident victims who arrived at the hospital today!

"Who do they think they are to celebrate my birthday with me?"

The smile on Chelsea's face widened. "Who are you thinking of spending your birthday with then?"

"You and Lulu, of course!" he replied without hesitation.

Listening to these words, I felt terrible.

After all, Niall and I were only together by accident in the first place. I still remember how cold his gaze was when he looked at me before we picked up our marriage certificate.

"I'm only marrying you because of the child," he had said. "But I don't want anybody else to know of our marriage! It's difficult for a married man to receive promotions in the workplace.

"You've already tied me down in marriage. I don't want you dragging down my career as well."

For the sake of our child, all I had been able to do was agree.

So, throughout all these years, he had always outwardly claimed to be single.

I was the only one who would silently care for our child.
