“Can’t you look where you’re going?” a man's voice cut through me like ice. I looked up at the stranger I'd bumped into - he was good-looking, but his tone was venomous. My heart pounded as I met his gaze.

“I-I’m so sorry,” I stammered, my throat tightening. “I didn’t mean to—”

He laughed, a dark, mirthless sound that sent shivers down my spine. “Can your apologies replace the clothes you just ruined with that cheap drink of yours?” he asked coldly.

My head dropped, tears blurring my vision as shame burned through me. I couldn't find the words to respond. When I didn't speak, he scoffed, muttered something under his breath, and walked away, leaving me standing there like I didn't matter. Like I was invisible.

I stood there for what felt like hours, though it was probably just a minute. Slowly, I walked to the trash bin and threw away the muffin and what was left of my milkshake. My clothes were stained too - and somehow, it was all my fault.

Why was it always like this? Why did people from wealthy backgrounds think it was okay to trample on those who weren’t? I walked to a nearby bench and sat down, wiping away tears as they fell freely. I was lost in my thoughts, deep in self-pity, and didn't notice when someone sat beside me.

It wasn't until she gently tapped my shoulder that I flinched. “Oh, my dear, I’m sorry to startle you,” a soft voice said. I turned to see a woman with kind eyes and a warm smile. “I saw you crying and thought I should keep you company. A pretty young lady like you shouldn’t be in tears.”

She reached out and patted my cheek with the back of her hand - it was warm, motherly, and gentle. That single gesture broke me. I missed my mom so much. Fresh tears slipped down my face, but this time, I smiled softly at the elegant woman sitting beside me. She looked rich, composed, but there was kindness in her eyes.

We talked, we laughed. She asked if it was my first time in New York, and I told her yes - that I'd recently relocated and had been job hunting ever since. When I mentioned I was an architect, her eyes lit up with surprise. “My company is currently in need of an architect,” she said.

I blinked. She gave me an email address, the company location, and told me to come in the following Monday. Just like that - no interview, no stress. My mouth fell open when she mentioned the company's name: Reed's Global. I couldn't believe it.

Only then did I realize who she was - Mrs. Reed. The woman was gentle, kind - nothing like the reputation tied to her family name. After a few minutes, she checked her phone and stood up. “My dear, I’m sorry I can’t stay longer,” she said warmly. “I have somewhere to be. Take care - we’ll meet again.”

She smiled, then paused and looked back at me. “Emily,” she said softly, “you look so much like my late best friend.” There was sadness in her smile as she turned and walked toward her waiting car, her bodyguards following closely behind. I sat there in shock.

I had no idea that the woman who'd just shown me kindness was about to change my life forever.

  • UNDER HIS COMMAND    Seventy-Two Hours Under His Command

I trudged into the cafeteria, my appetite having vanished by the time I arrived. The smell of food - fried chicken, rice, coffee - turned my stomach, making it roil with a queasy unease that had nothing to do with hunger. My mind was still stuck in Liam Reed's office, the memory of his cold voice echoing in my head like a mantra. I scanned the room, my eyes locking onto Chris and Riele at their usual table near the windows. Chris caught my gaze first."Whoa," he said, half rising from his seat, his brow furrowed with concern. "You look like you've seen a ghost.""Worse," I muttered, dropping my bag and sinking into the seat beside them, feeling like I'd been punched in the gut.Riele leaned forward, worry etched on her face. "What happened? Why did the assistant call you like that?" Her voice was low and gentle, but it was laced with a concern that made my heart sink.I hesitated, unsure how to put into words the sense of unease that had settled over me. Saying it out loud made it fee

Silence followed me like a shadow as I walked out of the conference room. Every step felt heavy, the weight of the entire department's gaze burning into my back. I could sense Jenna's glare without even turning around - it was like a cold draft on the back of my neck. Whispers trailed me down the hallway, and I kept my head down, my eyes fixed on the floor.I made my way to where Chris and Riele were waiting, the only two people I could call friends in this place. Just as I reached their area, a voice cut through the murmur. "Emily." I froze, my heart skipping a beat.Turning slowly, I saw Mr. Reed's assistant standing a few feet away, her expression neutral. "The CEO wants to see you. Now." My heart skipped again, and I nodded, swallowing hard, as I followed her down a quiet corridor I'd never been to before. The farther we walked, the quieter the building became, the air growing colder with each step. She stopped in front of a tall, dark door, and I felt a shiver run down my spine.

  • UNDER HIS COMMAND    The CEO’s Decision

I'd been at Reed's Global for a week, and it felt like an eternity. Exhaustion clung to me like a damp shroud, and tension simmered just below the surface, waiting to boil over. That morning, I woke up feeling drained, my stomach twisted into knots. We were presenting to the CEO today, and the thought alone made my nerves skitter.I'd stayed up past midnight, pouring my heart into the project, and had sent it to Jenna, our team lead, as instructed. But when she replied hours later, telling me to submit my final design, I was taken aback - I could've sworn I'd already done that. A nagging doubt crept in, but I pushed it aside.I dressed with care, opting for my usual professional look: a grey knee-length skirt, a sky-blue blouse, and one-inch heels that clicked on the floor. My hair was neatly brushed and packed into a low bun, a simple yet polished finish. As I arrived at the office, I dropped my bag at my desk and followed my teammates to the conference room, the air thick with tensi

  • UNDER HIS COMMAND    The Woman He Wanted Gone

I muttered, my voice shaking, "Oh... you work here too?" The question sounded foolish the moment it left my lips. His presence screamed authority, and a shiver of fear ran down my spine for reasons I couldn't quite explain. I hadn't even noticed the elevator had stopped moving. Then, he spoke, his voice sharp as a knife. "What the hell are you doing in my company?" he demanded. "And how dare you use my personal elevator?" I froze, my heart racing like a wild animal."Are y-you... Mr. Reed?" I whispered, my voice barely audible. He didn't answer. Instead, he grabbed my wrist tightly and dragged me out of the elevator, his grip rough enough to make me stumble."Don't let me ever see you in this company again," he snapped, his words cold and menacing. "You ruined my outfit the other day - I let that go. Now you're in my company, inside my elevator, acting innocent?" His grip tightened, like a vice. "Is that the new trick you gold diggers use to trap rich men?" Tears spilled down my cheek

  • UNDER HIS COMMAND    The Worst Coincidence

I woke up ridiculously early, my body buzzing with excitement like a live wire. Today was my first day at Reed's Global, and sleep had been a lost cause. I couldn't shake the feeling that this was it, the start of something big.I jumped out of bed and got ready in record time, smoothing my long, wavy brown hair into a neat bun. A quick glance in the mirror and I nodded, satisfied - I looked the part. My outfit was simple, yet professional: a knee-length brown pencil skirt, a cream silk blouse tucked in, brown pointed flats, and a matching brown bag. Safe, but not boring. As I locked my door, I caught Mary, my elderly neighbor, outside with her fluffy brown cat curled up in her arms. She smiled and wished me luck, and that small gesture warmed my heart. I headed down the long staircase and straight into a waiting taxi. The drive took an eternity - almost an hour and a half. But I was glad I'd woken up early; showing up late on my first day would've been a disaster. When the taxi final
