Chapter 3

Author: Wild Sprint
Bernard deliberately waved his hand at me, letting me get an even better look at the diamond ring on his finger.

With a light laugh, he said, "Come on, Mr. Goodman, don't be so nitpicky. Anna put a lot of effort and thought into picking out that gift for you. At the very least, you should feel touched at her intention!"

There was no way I could feel touched at receiving a gift that was actually her lover's leftovers.

Pouting, Annabelle cooed, "Camden, I'll confront the store employee later, okay? Luckily, I had another surprise prepared!"

"What is it?"

She took my arm and pressed herself against me. "We've been married for so many years already, yet you've never really fit in. Well, today, I want to bring you to meet my friends! Expand your horizon, you know?"

Apparently, expanding my horizon meant taking me to a chaotic bar.

When we arrived at the private room, Annabelle entered first, followed closely by Bernard.

A chorus of voices immediately called out a greeting.

"Hey there, Anna. Brought your husband with you again, huh?"

Annabelle didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with their wording, while behind her, Bernard wore a delighted smile.

But I certainly wasn't about to let it slip. Leaning against the doorway, I raked a gaze over those loud, flashy young men and women. In an indifferent tone, I said, "Her husband is right here."

In an instant, the atmosphere became uncomfortably tense.

Annabelle threw me a disdainful look. "It was just a slip of the tongue. Do you have to be so petty?"

With that, she spun around, not bothering to spare me another glance as she rallied them for a round of drinking.

The gathering started with Annabelle singing her heart out with her friends, but it wasn't long before the private room was filled with cigarette smoke.

Unable to stand the stench, I stepped outside for a breath of fresh air.

When I returned, I didn't even get the chance to push the door open when the sounds coming from inside had me trembling.

It had only been a little over ten minutes since I left, yet the atmosphere in the room had drastically changed.

In the dim lighting of the room, I could see the way Annabelle's body was entangled with Bernard's intimately.

Bernard growled lustfully, "Do you want it, Anna?"

Tossing her arms over his shoulders, Annabelle smiled seductively. "Just a quickie before he comes back."

A laugh left his lips. "How daring of you. What if he happens to come in while we're still at it?"

Annabelle answered flippantly, "It doesn't matter. He can't bear to leave me anyway."

They smiled at each other, then the next second, clothes were flying through the air as they ripped at each other impatiently.

As I watched it all play out, I laughed silently.

Annabelle truly had prepared such a huge surprise for me. In that case, I couldn't be a spoilsport.

With an expressionless face, I pushed the door open and entered.

The slight creaking of the door opening instantly made everyone in the room freeze.

Annabelle's head snapped up, and I could see the flush on her face due to their exertions.

A hint of panic flickered in her eyes, but she quickly calmed down and demanded, "Camden, don't you know to knock before you enter?"

I laughed. "If I had knocked, I wouldn't have been able to see such an interesting scene."

Slowly making my way over to them, I tossed a box of condoms at Bernard.

"When it comes to sex, ensuring your safety is the most basic of precautions. You wouldn't want to get any diseases, would you?"

Then, I helpfully stepped back. "You guys can continue now. I won't bother you."

However, Annabelle grew upset and crawled off of Bernard. Wrapping a blanket around her partially nude body, she jabbed a furious finger at me.

"Camden Goodman, what the fuck is wrong with you? As if I need you to tell me what to do!"

I explained calmly, "I'm just doing it for your own good."

Yet, that only seemed to piss her off more. "For my own good? If you really were doing it for my own good, then why are you always ruining my fun? Don't you know that interrupting someone in the middle of sex is the worst thing you can do?"

So, this was my wife. Somehow, she was able to berate me so righteously even when I had already caught her in the act of sleeping with another man.

The others in the room were snickering quietly, which only bolstered Annabelle further.

"Camden, didn't you say that you would give me my freedom? If you continue to stick your nose into my business while claiming it's for my own good, you can say goodbye to our relationship!"

This was Annabelle's trump card.

Everyone knew that my biggest weakness was my fear of Annabelle leaving me.

I was so afraid that I had always been submissive and servile toward her. Even when she hit or scold me, I never once fought back. Every time we had a conflict, all she needed to do was threaten me with this, and I would immediately apologize and beg for mercy.

Everyone present probably expected me to once again swallow my humiliation and set aside my pride to beg Annabelle not to leave me.

However, this time, I simply met her arrogant gaze with an indifferent one and said placidly, "Alright, then let's divorce."

The day our divorce was to be finalized, Annabelle arrived on time, with Bernard tagging along. She kept her head bowed in silence through the proceedings. It wasn't until the lawyer informed us of the division of assets that she finally raised her head."Hold on, did I hear wrong? Why am I only getting half the house and nothing else?" Annabelle looked at me, her body swaying as though she were about to collapse.Beside her, Bernard slammed a hand on the table and leaped to his feet. "What the fuck did you just say? Goodman is practically rolling in money, so why did we only get so little of his assets?""Calm down." The lawyer took his time explaining, "When they got married, the only asset Mr. Goodman brought to the table was a house. All other financial assets are not in his name."That last sentence had Annabelle and Bernard in an uproar.Annabelle sprang to her feet and yelled in disbelief, "Camden Goodman, did you have it all planned out from the beginning? Did you purpose

By the end of Annabelle's tirade, tears were streaming down her face. For once, she seemed to be showing her genuine emotions. However, I laughed like I had heard the funniest joke in the world. Wiping away my tears of mirth, I said, "So, you do know that I treated you like a queen and that I used to love you deeply. But do you remember how you treated me all these years?"No matter how deeply in love two people are, their relationship will still fail if they can't support each other. For the past three years, I have been struggling to maintain our relationship all on my own. Where were you then? You were either off having fun with your so-called friends or spending time with your precious Bernie!"Annabelle's lips quivered as she reached out a trembling hand to grab me. "Camden, I'm so sorry. I was a fool back then. Now, I know just how hard you've had it. Can you please forgive me one more time? This time, I really will change. I'll be your perfect wife. You've always wanted a c

I returned to my parents' house.Back when I insisted on marrying Annabelle, my relationship with my parents became incredibly tense. Now that I was back, Dad was absolutely delighted. He immediately dragged me off to purchase yet another company. When the topic of divorce and the division of assets came up, Dad teasingly asked me what my thoughts were.Shooting him a grin, I answered, "Well, I'm thankful for your foresight."We shared a smile.Hardly a few days had passed when Dad urged me to go on a blind date. Since his tone was firm and left no room for argument, I couldn't exactly refuse.Exasperated, I agreed to meet my blind date, Jennifer Eaton, at a cafe. Not wanting to waste her time, I told her from the get-go about my situation, at which point she also informed me that she wasn't interested in me.Seeing as our parents had stipulated we spend a certain amount of time together, we could only sit around and wait for that time to pass.Just as I was about to doze off i

The instant I left the restaurant, I had my assistant freeze Annabelle's credit card. I was certainly not going to sponsor her or her lover.Soon after that, Annabelle began calling me frantically, making close to 100 calls. Still, I ignored every single one of them. Then, one day, the hospital called to tell me that Annabelle had collapsed by the roadside and didn't have the money to pay for her medical bills, so they requested me to pay on her behalf. When I saw Annabelle again, her complexion was deathly pale, and her voice was so hoarse that she could hardly speak. She leaped out of bed as I entered her room, but then she hesitated, seemingly unsure of what to do. In the end, she tugged at my sleeve while complaining tearfully, "Camden, why did you freeze my card? Right now, I don't even have the money to pay for my own treatment. Could you please treat me better? Don't you feel the slightest bit of pity for me?"Her meek behavior reminded me of my past self. Many times bef

Several days later, Annabelle called me and weakly told me that she was feeling unwell. She even sent a photo of her on an IV drip.At the same time, I was visiting a couple-themed restaurant at the invitation of a client, Susan Woods. All around us, couples were lovingly sharing a meal with each other. Suddenly, I spotted two familiar figures among the crowd. The ambient lighting was dim, but I could still see Annabelle, who was supposed to be on an IV drip at the hospital, cuddled up to Bernard. There was a resentful and angry scowl on her face as she complained, "I finally got to leave that place. Bernie, you have no idea how much suffering I've endured the past few days! "Camden seems to have become a completely different person. Every time I have to see that indifferent face of his, I'm overcome with the urge to slap the living daylights out of him!"Bernard stroked her waist and smiled soothingly. "Don't be mad, Anna. Just hold on a little longer until I can think of a w

In an instant, the room fell deathly silent. It was as though someone had pressed the pause button. After several beats, Annabelle widened her eyes in disbelief. "Camden Goodman, have you gone nuts? Do you even know what you're saying right now?"Not a hint of emotion stirred in me as I answered, "I'm not crazy. In fact, I'm very calm right now. What? Do you think that instead of asking for a divorce, I should be standing here and watching as you fuck Bernard like nobody's around?"Annabelle went white, her entire body shaking from the force of her anger."I have no idea what you're talking about! Sure, Bernie and I were once together, but that was in the past! Now, we're just very good friends!""Friends?" I scoffed. "You mean the kind of friends who pick out rings together and have sex anytime, anywhere?""Camden Goodman!" Annabelle abruptly shrieked, her voice reaching a fever pitch. "Get the hell out of here!""Gladly," I replied with a look of disgust. "Every second spent h
