Chapter 1

I pointed at the condom on the floor and demanded an explanation from my wife, Annabelle Suther, yet she simply replied, "Isn't it just some milk? You country bumpkin, everyone does it like this nowadays!"

Her friend chimed in, "That's right! This is the trendy new way of drinking milk! You just don't get it!"

In reply, I scoffed. "Then how about you drink it in front of me right now?"

Annabelle's embarrassment turned to fury, and she came over to land a solid slap on my cheek. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

The sting on my cheek seemed to clear the fog in my head. For once, my mind was clear.

At that moment, the man beside Annabelle gently took her hand in his. Shooting me a challenging smile, he said, "Anna, don't be mad anymore. You'll only hurt your hand."

Bernard Lintell's soothing words calmed Annabelle down a little, but she still waved an impatient hand at me to shoo me away. "If you leave right now, I won't hold you accountable for ruining my fun!"

I took in the disdainful look in her eyes and felt a wave of pity for myself.

Today was Annabelle's birthday. In order to make her happy, I had booked out the most lavish restaurant in the city and prepared a diamond ring worth tens of millions of dollars.

However, not only had she not shown up despite agreeing to come, but she also hadn't even bothered to answer her phone.

I waited from six in the evening until eleven at night, at which point even the waiters began shooting me odd looks.

It wasn't until I saw her best friend's Instagram post that I learned she was at a bar, celebrating Bernard's birthday.

Worried about her safety, I had rushed over as quickly as I could, only to encounter such a sight.

Not once had she ever appreciated anything I did for her. In fact, she even went as far as to accuse me of restraining her freedom.

In that case, I would let her go to pursue that so-called freedom of hers!

"Fine. I'll give you the freedom you've been wishing for."

With a sneer, I spun and left without another backward glance.

Annabelle hadn't expected that I would just walk off like that instead of continuing to cajole her in a low, submissive tone. Confused and somewhat frustrated, she returned to the private room and threw herself into drinking.

By the time I returned home, I was beyond exhausted.

I was fast asleep when I heard a sound at my bedroom door.

Upon opening my eyes, I was greeted by Annabelle's infuriated expression as she charged over to me, reeking of alcohol. She demanded harshly, "Camden Goodman, didn't you see me drinking just now? Why didn't you prepare some hangover remedy for me beforehand?"

Annabelle had always had a low alcohol tolerance, so every time she got drunk in the past, I would have some hangover remedy waiting for her.

Every single time, I would have to coax her into drinking it, and she would always hit me and scold me. She would either complain about it tasting too bitter or lash out at me for being a busybody. A few days ago, she even smacked the bowl aside and told me not to give it to her anymore.

Yet, now that I was doing as she wished, she was displeased with me.

The swelling on my cheek hadn't even gone down yet. Slowly getting out of bed, I calmly looked at her and said, "I was waiting for you the whole night, which completely exhausted me. If you need a hangover remedy, you can make it yourself."

It seemed like Annabelle hadn't expected me to be that cold and distant, as by this point, I would usually be apologizing and begging for her forgiveness.

She opened her mouth, about to say something more, but then she realized that she was at the disadvantage here. Rolling her eyes at me, she left the room while muttering, "You're the one who decided to wait for me the whole night. It's not like I told you to. What's that got to do with me?"

There were some shuffling sounds outside the door before Annabelle entered again. She tossed a plastic container at me.

Glancing down, I saw that it was a seafood risotto that had been stirred into a disgusting mess, looking like something made from kitchen waste. It was utterly revolting.

She pursed her lips and pointedly avoided eye contact with me. "I don't have a habit of ruining other people's good moods, unlike you. I know you didn't have dinner, so I deliberately got you this."

For a moment, I was stunned.

We had known each other for seven years and had been married for three. In those ten years, she still hadn't realized that I was allergic to seafood.

Meeting her smug gaze, I said placidly, "I can't eat this."

In the past, I cherished everything she gave me. Even if it was a random wildflower she had plucked from the roadside, I would still carefully preserve it.

Hence, my current attitude was something she wasn't used to, and it left her at a loss.

At last, she couldn't help but resort to anger. "What's wrong with you? I got you some risotto out of the kindness of my heart, and you're refusing it? Camden, are you even a man? How could you be so petty? Are you seriously still angry with me right now?"

My temples throbbed with pain at her shrill shrieking. I explained softly, "It's not that I'm refusing your gesture, but that I can't eat—"

However, before I could finish, she cut me off. "Don't try to placate me with lousy excuses!"

The day our divorce was to be finalized, Annabelle arrived on time, with Bernard tagging along. She kept her head bowed in silence through the proceedings. It wasn't until the lawyer informed us of the division of assets that she finally raised her head."Hold on, did I hear wrong? Why am I only getting half the house and nothing else?" Annabelle looked at me, her body swaying as though she were about to collapse.Beside her, Bernard slammed a hand on the table and leaped to his feet. "What the fuck did you just say? Goodman is practically rolling in money, so why did we only get so little of his assets?""Calm down." The lawyer took his time explaining, "When they got married, the only asset Mr. Goodman brought to the table was a house. All other financial assets are not in his name."That last sentence had Annabelle and Bernard in an uproar.Annabelle sprang to her feet and yelled in disbelief, "Camden Goodman, did you have it all planned out from the beginning? Did you purpose

By the end of Annabelle's tirade, tears were streaming down her face. For once, she seemed to be showing her genuine emotions. However, I laughed like I had heard the funniest joke in the world. Wiping away my tears of mirth, I said, "So, you do know that I treated you like a queen and that I used to love you deeply. But do you remember how you treated me all these years?"No matter how deeply in love two people are, their relationship will still fail if they can't support each other. For the past three years, I have been struggling to maintain our relationship all on my own. Where were you then? You were either off having fun with your so-called friends or spending time with your precious Bernie!"Annabelle's lips quivered as she reached out a trembling hand to grab me. "Camden, I'm so sorry. I was a fool back then. Now, I know just how hard you've had it. Can you please forgive me one more time? This time, I really will change. I'll be your perfect wife. You've always wanted a c

I returned to my parents' house.Back when I insisted on marrying Annabelle, my relationship with my parents became incredibly tense. Now that I was back, Dad was absolutely delighted. He immediately dragged me off to purchase yet another company. When the topic of divorce and the division of assets came up, Dad teasingly asked me what my thoughts were.Shooting him a grin, I answered, "Well, I'm thankful for your foresight."We shared a smile.Hardly a few days had passed when Dad urged me to go on a blind date. Since his tone was firm and left no room for argument, I couldn't exactly refuse.Exasperated, I agreed to meet my blind date, Jennifer Eaton, at a cafe. Not wanting to waste her time, I told her from the get-go about my situation, at which point she also informed me that she wasn't interested in me.Seeing as our parents had stipulated we spend a certain amount of time together, we could only sit around and wait for that time to pass.Just as I was about to doze off i

The instant I left the restaurant, I had my assistant freeze Annabelle's credit card. I was certainly not going to sponsor her or her lover.Soon after that, Annabelle began calling me frantically, making close to 100 calls. Still, I ignored every single one of them. Then, one day, the hospital called to tell me that Annabelle had collapsed by the roadside and didn't have the money to pay for her medical bills, so they requested me to pay on her behalf. When I saw Annabelle again, her complexion was deathly pale, and her voice was so hoarse that she could hardly speak. She leaped out of bed as I entered her room, but then she hesitated, seemingly unsure of what to do. In the end, she tugged at my sleeve while complaining tearfully, "Camden, why did you freeze my card? Right now, I don't even have the money to pay for my own treatment. Could you please treat me better? Don't you feel the slightest bit of pity for me?"Her meek behavior reminded me of my past self. Many times bef

Several days later, Annabelle called me and weakly told me that she was feeling unwell. She even sent a photo of her on an IV drip.At the same time, I was visiting a couple-themed restaurant at the invitation of a client, Susan Woods. All around us, couples were lovingly sharing a meal with each other. Suddenly, I spotted two familiar figures among the crowd. The ambient lighting was dim, but I could still see Annabelle, who was supposed to be on an IV drip at the hospital, cuddled up to Bernard. There was a resentful and angry scowl on her face as she complained, "I finally got to leave that place. Bernie, you have no idea how much suffering I've endured the past few days! "Camden seems to have become a completely different person. Every time I have to see that indifferent face of his, I'm overcome with the urge to slap the living daylights out of him!"Bernard stroked her waist and smiled soothingly. "Don't be mad, Anna. Just hold on a little longer until I can think of a w

In an instant, the room fell deathly silent. It was as though someone had pressed the pause button. After several beats, Annabelle widened her eyes in disbelief. "Camden Goodman, have you gone nuts? Do you even know what you're saying right now?"Not a hint of emotion stirred in me as I answered, "I'm not crazy. In fact, I'm very calm right now. What? Do you think that instead of asking for a divorce, I should be standing here and watching as you fuck Bernard like nobody's around?"Annabelle went white, her entire body shaking from the force of her anger."I have no idea what you're talking about! Sure, Bernie and I were once together, but that was in the past! Now, we're just very good friends!""Friends?" I scoffed. "You mean the kind of friends who pick out rings together and have sex anytime, anywhere?""Camden Goodman!" Annabelle abruptly shrieked, her voice reaching a fever pitch. "Get the hell out of here!""Gladly," I replied with a look of disgust. "Every second spent h
