Plot Twists

"No matter how carefully one hides and covers up, the truth will come out if fate wills it." The moment I confirm that Felix Johnson is really cheating on me, this trending post pops up on my phone. Calmly, I tap on it and open the comments section. Under a post titled "Infidelity", I continue typing away with icy fingers. "It's so ironic. A coworker casually takes a photo during a trip and posts it on social media. Out of thousands of people in the background, he and my best friend just happened to be caught in the frame. "Our wedding is only three days away. But now, I'm rushing over in the middle of the night to catch them in the act."

Chapter 1

Natasha Winters' POV

I locked my phone after posting the comment. I had set my wedding photo as the wallpaper.

I leaned against the hotel's stark-white walls and tiredly closed my eyes. I waited until the intense and wild noises in the room died down before raising my hand and knocking on the door emotionlessly. My wedding band glinted around my ring finger.

"Who is it?"

My boyfriend, Felix Johnson, was topless when he opened the door.

I shoved him aside and stormed into the room.

The woman on the bed was stunned, looking like she had no idea how to react.

"Natasha…"

"I forced her into this, Natasha. You can take all your frustrations out on me. Just don't hurt Vera!"

Disregarding his own well-being, Felix pulled the beautiful woman, Vera Foster, into his embrace to protect her. They looked like a pair of star-crossed lovers, doing whatever they could to become one with each other before the end of the world.

I quietly stood in the dark, emotionlessly breathing in the fishy stench in the air. I didn't cause a fuss and simply committed the scene before me to memory.

I begged myself not to turn back—to deny them my forgiveness.

I scrolled through my email until I found the invitation to Enrio that had been sitting in my inbox for a long time. It was the last day for me to respond. My hands were shaking when I pressed the "accept" button.

From that day on, the love and friendship that I cherished the most became nothing more than an illusion.

There were no hysterical outbursts as I expected.

Dead silence descended upon the room.

I removed the wedding band from my ring finger and gently placed it on the table. My words were short, simple, and devoid of emotion when I said, "I'll be giving this ring back to you. I'll also return your wedding gift.

"We can either cancel the wedding, or the two of you can go through with it. I'm fine with either option."

I turned around and left after I was done speaking. I didn't even question them.

The sound of something heavy falling to the floor came from behind me.

Vera fell from the bed and staggered forward. Tears streamed down her face as she sank to her knees by my feet.

"I'm sorry, Natasha. I'm so sorry… I was the shameless one. I'm the one who intentionally seduced Felix. The person he loves the most has always been you. You can scold me and hurt me as much as you want. Just don't keep everything inside, okay?"

Felix hastily picked up a shirt from the floor and draped it across Vera's shoulders. He then kneeled next to her at my feet. However, the tone of his voice wasn't colored by regret. Instead, he sounded immensely pained.

"It's not like that, Natasha. It's all my fault. Vera has cared for you the most since you were kids. I'm the one who forced her to be with me. You can take out all your hatred and resentment on me."

My legs felt incredibly heavy as if they were weighed down by lead blocks.

My eyes were hollow as I turned to look at the two people I used to love the most.

I could still remember how the first birthday cake that I ever received was clumsily made by Vera. Although I loved drawing, I had no talent for it, but she would still earnestly display the doodles that I made on her wall.

She also had a box that she dearly cherished that she used to collect all the "useless" things that belonged to me, including candy wrappers, movie stubs, and spare sheets of paper that I scribbled my feelings onto.

Vera did all of this because I was her best friend.

As for Felix, he ran to the convenience store with a flaming-red face when I got my period for the first time, buying sanitary pads from every brand that was available.

I had a weak stomach, so he always secretly sneaked snacks into my bag. He also took down notes about my food allergies and preferences in his phone.

When I failed my interviews and cried about how incapable I was, he meticulously edited my resume without a single word, spending the entire night on it until dawn broke on the horizon.

Felix did all of this because I was his one and only rose.

In the past, I genuinely believed that I was the luckiest woman in the world. However, at that moment, the two people I loved the most were kneeling before me.

Who should I blame for what was happening?

Was there anyone I could blame?
