Emma’s POV

It had been more than three weeks since the night Maddie walked in on us, and the silence since then had been unbearable. I had not spoken to either of them, though I tried, God knows I tried, especially with Maddie. She made it clear she wanted nothing to do with me, as if our friendship had truly ended. And for what? I could almost accept her shutting me out, pretending I did not exist, but Zane? That was something else entirely.

We had promised each other that if Maddie could not handle the truth, we would step back. But he never even had the respect to tell me face-to-face that it was over. His silence spoke louder than any words. To me, it meant everything we shared was fake. He never cared, not once, and the only fool in this story was me, for believing a single word he ever said.

The last three weeks had been hell. I had never felt this empty, this lost. To cope, I became someone I hardly recognised. Almost every night I was out, drinking too much, calling in sick to

  • Wetting The Bed Of My Best Friend's Brother    Had I lost my best friend?

Emma’s povZane and I were sprawled on my sofa, stealing kisses; he was poking at my ribs and I was laughing so much that I could not stop squealing. A few days had passed since our conversation and everything had been moving in the right direction. This weekend we had planned to be honest with Maddie, to lay everything out before whatever this was became more serious. I was dreading her reaction, but Zane and I had agreed that if she could not accept it we would slow things down and give her space, because we did not want to lose her."Zane, stop," I said as he dug his fingers into my side. He laughed loudly and then bent down to kiss me. Heat built between us and our kisses deepened, until, suddenly, a voice cut straight through the moment."WHAT THE…" Maddie shouted from behind us.We both separated so quickly that my heart hammered. Maddie stood in the doorway with a look I had never seen on her before: wounded and betrayed. My throat opened but no words would come. I tried to mov

  • Wetting The Bed Of My Best Friend's Brother    ....you know this means we have to tell Maddie

Emma’s POVWhen my eyes opened, the room was still dark. I reached for my phone and saw the time, five in the morning. I had barely slept for a couple of hours, and the pounding in my head reminded me why. I reached for the painkillers Zane had left by the bed, swallowing them with the glass of water. The taste of alcohol still lingered on my tongue, making me grimace. I needed to brush my teeth immediately.I carefully slipped out of bed, not wanting to wake him, only to realise he was not there at all. My chest sank. When did he leave? My mind went straight back to what we had talked about last night. Had I pushed too far? Maybe it had been too much, and that was why he walked out. He could have at least said something.I made my way to the bathroom, brushed my teeth twice, and drowned my mouth in minty mouthwash before heading for the kitchen to grab another drink. But when I stepped into the living room, a figure sitting in the dark on the sofa made me stop in my tracks.“Zane?” M

  • Wetting The Bed Of My Best Friend's Brother    How did I end up in bed?

Zane’s POVThe night had finally wound down, and for once, I was the only one sober. It fell on me to make sure everyone got home safely, and Emma was the last stop. That guy Maddie and Jackson tried setting her up with earlier? I had pulled him aside for a quiet talk. He quickly realised it was pointless to even try anything. I may have put a bit of fear in him, but that was the goal, to keep him far away from her. And I made it clear he should never mention what I said.By the time the cab stopped in front of her apartment, Emma had already dozed off. I paid the driver, got out, and circled around to her side. I lifted her into my arms, her head instinctively tucking into my chest, her arms looping around my neck as she slept. I could not help but chuckle softly as I looked down at her. She had definitely drunk more than she could handle, but at least everyone had enjoyed themselves tonight.I searched through her bag for her keys, unlocked the door, and carried her inside. After se

  • Wetting The Bed Of My Best Friend's Brother    I am sorry. I was jealous

Emma’s POVMaddie and I headed to the bar to meet up with everyone for our night out. There were about ten of us altogether, including Zane, which made things a little complicated since he and I had been spending so much time together lately. Tonight, though, we would have to pretend like nothing was going on between us.Zane and Jackson had gone ahead, complaining we were taking forever to get ready. Typical men. When we finally reached the table, I noticed there were eleven people instead of ten. Sitting with them was a guy I had never seen before. He was cute, I would give him that.“Maddie, who is he?” I asked, curious.“That is Olly, one of Jackson’s friends,” she said with a sweet smile. “He is a really nice guy.” Her expression, however, told me there was more behind that smile.“Please do not tell me you are trying to set me up again,” I said, narrowing my eyes at her.She gave me a guilty nod before rushing over to join the group, leaving me no chance to argue. I should have

  • Wetting The Bed Of My Best Friend's Brother    Your freckles are cute

Zane’s POVI had been stuck in Emma’s apartment for what felt like forever. Four hours had already passed, and I was still waiting. She had texted earlier to say she was on her way, so I stayed put, stretched out on her sofa, mindlessly switching through her channels. For the past hour, my mind kept circling the same thought, should Emma and I tell Maddie the truth? She deserved to know. If she ever found out on her own that I had been sleeping with her best friend behind her back, she would probably tear me apart. But at least the lies would be over. Then again, how could I even explain it? It was not like Emma and I were in a real relationship, we were just messing around. How would Maddie take that? The front door swung open, pulling me from my thoughts. “I brought coffee and doughnuts,” Emma called out as she walked in.“It is the least you could do after leaving me here all day,” I shouted back with a smirk. She appeared in front of me, balancing the bag and cups in her hands, h
