Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
Eliana, Callum, and Anthony were doing well, so they were discharged very quickly.

Anthony was busy with his farm.

Callum was a captain in the navy, and he had been stationed on an island for quite some time. I stayed with him there, so we returned to the military barracks as soon as he was discharged.

While I worked, I thought to myself, "It's almost Thanksgiving. Since Callum's been discharged safely, we should invite the soldiers under his command to celebrate.

"Those young soldiers are so far from home. While everyone else is celebrating, they're stuck here protecting us. This is a good opportunity to celebrate with them."

At that point, I turned to look at Callum, who was sitting on the couch.

Before I could speak, I saw a touched look on his face.

"Callum, shall we ask the troops over for dinner during Thanksgiving?"

Callum lowered his head and chuckled. "You can decide."

He didn't say much, but he clearly approved of the idea.

Therefore, things were settled.

Unexpectedly, Eliana came along with the troops on Thanksgiving. She watched me while I worked busily in the kitchen and kept repeating that she wanted to help. However, her feet remained firmly rooted to the spot.

There was an impatient look in her eyes when she looked at the young soldiers, who were talking loudly and horsing around.

Soon, everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, and the house was a mess.

While Callum was seeing off the guests, I started cleaning up.

Eliana sat there calmly with no intention of helping.

When Callum had seen off the guests and walked back, she giggled and went up to take his arm. "Cal—"

Before she could finish, Callum pulled his arm away and frowned as he said, "Sophie's been busy for the entire day. Why didn't you help out a little?"

He ignored her and turned around to help me clean up.

Eliana did not give up and kept tugging at his arm. "That's not my fault, Cal. I was about to help, but Sophie refused to let me."

When I saw this, I couldn't help thinking to myself, "I didn't refuse to let you help at all. You covered your nose and stayed far away before I could even ask. What could I do about that?

"But it's alright. As long as the soldiers enjoyed their meal today, I'll be happy. Even if it's a little tiring, I don't mind."

Callum's expression changed rapidly when he heard my thoughts.

He seemed unable to resist it any longer and spoke up. "If there isn't anything else, you should go home soon. Sophie and I still have work to do."

There was a flash of hatred in Eliana's eyes.

"Cal, are you angry at me because I didn't help Sophie clean up? But Sophie was just thinking that if it weren't for those stupid soldiers, she wouldn't have had to be so busy. She was secretly blaming you for bringing them back here!"

Eliana tugged on Callum's sleeve and whined coyly at him.

When I heard this, I pinched myself hard, and my eyes turned red at once. My tears began falling, and I looked at Callum without speaking.

I couldn't help thinking, "Why is Eliana slandering me like that? That's not what I thought at all. Callum must believe Eliana over me since he isn't saying anything. After all, they grew up together."

I hung my head and said nothing.

In my past life, Callum had looked at me with great disappointment after what Eliana had said. I had wanted to explain, but I was angry at his distrust in me and had stayed silent.

This time, I also remained silent.

Callum's expression was as dark as thunder.

Eliana looked even more smug when she saw Callum's expression. She thought that he believed her.

"Don't be too angry, Cal. It's normal for women to be a little grumpy. Besides, Sophie saved our lives.

"However, I wouldn't have done something like that. Those soldiers protect our country. Even if it's tiring or difficult, it's worth it as long as they're happy."

She had said exactly what I was thinking earlier. My lip curled involuntarily, but Callum snorted.

He looked at Eliana with annoyance in his eyes, unlike the tender way he had treated her as his younger sister in the past.

"Eliana, have you ever considered the fact that you're not the only one who can hear Sophie's thoughts? Maybe I can hear them too. Have you thought of the consequences of slandering Sophie?"

Upon hearing this, I looked up at them and pretended to be surprised.

Eliana had turned deathly pale, and she was looking at Callum in disbelief.

The next day, things went on as normal. Callum told Anthony about our plan and what we had deduced. We didn't tell Kyra in case she could not resist rushing up to fight it out with Eliana. The three of us ate dinner distractedly, after which I pulled Kyra back to my room to sleep.Callum and Anthony crouched in the corners of the yard, waiting for Eliana to fall into our trap.I lay on my bed as I listened to Kyra snoring beside me, but I couldn't help feeling nervous. What if I had guessed wrongly?Luckily, Eliana did not disappoint me.In the middle of the night, there was a commotion downstairs."Let me go! Let me go!"It was Eliana's voice, and when I heard her, I could no longer resist. I got out of bed. The noise had woken our neighbors, and the yard was already packed with onlookers. Eliana was sitting on the ground, looking even more pitiful than usual under the dim orange glow of the lamps. "Cal, what did I do wrong? Why are you and Ant doing this to me?"It w

After Kyra and I both got divorced, we heard that Eliana took turns comforting Anthony and Callum. She put in a lot of effort, but neither Callum nor Anthony chose to be with her. What was strange was that Anthony, who had always been focused on his career, died suddenly from an acute illness. Meanwhile, Callum's heart stopped suddenly while he was out on a mission. Both of them passed away. What was even stranger was that they had both left all their assets to Eliana.Although some people thought that it was impossible, more people thought that it might have been due to the fact that both Anthony's and Callum's families owed the Sullivans a debt. Since neither of them had any remaining relatives, they had decided to leave all their assets to Eliana, the only living descendant of the Sullivans. That was when it suddenly occurred to me that I might have been wrong all along. Perhaps what Eliana wanted wasn't Callum or Anthony, but what they owned.I reached down to caress my sto

It was a familiar voice, and I couldn't help cursing inwardly when I heard it. I thought, "She's here again… I'm standing right here, and she's acting as if I'm invisible. She's only got eyes for Cal."Callum heard my thoughts and put his fist to his lips, but I could still see a smile break out on his face. He turned to look outside when he saw how annoyed I was. "Didn't I tell you not to come to our home again?"Eliana's eyes turned red, and tears began rolling down her cheeks at once."Cal, what did I do wrong? Why must you all treat me like this? Ant told me not to go to his house again, either. Is it because Sophie and Kyra don't like me? Is that why—"She paused and looked up piteously at me.I couldn't help thinking to myself, "Who would like a woman who's trying to seduce their husband?"Callum heard my thoughts, and his expression flickered. "If there isn't anything in particular, you should go. Don't call me 'Cal' in the future, either. It sounds too affectionate

Eliana rarely made an appearance after that. My life with Callum became peaceful once more, and our relationship became stronger. However, Kyra turned up angrily at our place one day."Soph, Eliana is truly bad news!"I smacked myself on the head when I saw my sister, whose cheeks were bright red with anger. Oh no! I had been so focused on strengthening my relationship with Callum that I'd forgotten to ask Kyra how things were with her. At that thought, I hastily made her a cup of hot chocolate. I comforted her quickly. "What's wrong? What kind of terrible thing has she done to make you so angry?"My sister had been drinking her hot chocolate, but she slammed it down hard on the table."She's a two-faced bitch! She keeps coming to my house with presents lately, and she told me that she's doing it to thank me for donating blood to her. Of course, I'm happy to receive them. After all, I shed so much blood for free."I nodded at this point. There was nothing wrong with thin

Before I could figure things out, Callum said in a low voice, "Eliana isn't the little girl I grew up with anymore. Perhaps things had already changed by the time mine and Anthony's family were falsely accused. Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan were doing their best to get help for us, but Eliana went to report us and cut ties with us."I've always kept Mr. and Mrs. Sullivan's kindness to us in mind, and I kept telling myself that Eliana was just too young at the time. It was natural for her to be afraid in a situation like that. I didn't realize that she was no longer the kind, innocent little girl she once was."Callum paused and pushed me away so that he could look into my eyes. "Sophie, perhaps the heavens are giving me a hint. They gave me a chance to hear your thoughts. Otherwise, who knows how many misunderstandings there would have been between us?"I couldn't help but sigh as I saw the redness in his eyes.I looked into his eyes and asked seriously, "If you hadn't heard my thoughts, w

A dead silence fell over the living room. After a moment, Callum laughed softly, as if nothing had happened. "I was just teasing. You keep saying that you can hear Sophie's thoughts, but we live in the era of science now. How could that be possible?"I was just scaring you. However, you must not use that to slander Sophie anymore. Don't you think I know what kind of person she is?"He began urging Eliana to leave. Eliana breathed a long sigh of relief, but she looked defiant, as if ready to object. However, after a moment's thought, she left our home without saying anything. Her eyes were full of hatred, jealousy, and defiance.Unexpectedly, Callum took my hand as soon as Eliana left.He looked carefully at my expression and pretended to be casual as he asked, "Honey, do you think that telepathy exists?"My chest tightened, and my eyes widened as I smacked him on the arm. "What are you talking about? Are you about to say that you know everything I'm thinking? Well, tell me. W
