Not just one bottle. "Mom!" I called out. "Mom, come back!" But she was already gone. I reached over to the table next to my bed. I felt around for the bottle Rebecca had left. But it wasn't there. My mother had taken it. But what if there was another bottle? What if Rebecca had left more than one thing? I felt around the table more carefully. And then my hand touched something else. Something small. Something that felt like a pill bottle. "No," I whispered. I picked it up and shook it. Pills rattled inside. Rebecca had left two bottles. My mother had only taken one. The other one was still here. "Nurse!" I called out. "I need help!" A nurse came running in.

We waited two weeks. So my mother could plan a small ceremony.
