ADELINE'S POV

But first, I had to survive the next few months.

I had to make sure Hope was born safely.

And I had to make sure nobody killed us before then.

A week later, something happened that changed everything.

I was lying in bed when I heard loud noises in the hallway.

Shouting.

Running footsteps.

Gunshots.

"What's happening?" I called out.

Nobody answered.

More gunshots.

Then silence.

The door to my room opened.

"Elena," a voice said.

A voice I didn't recognize.

"Who are you?"

"My name is Marcus. I'm here to take you somewhere safe."

"Where's Daniel? Where are the FBI agents?"

"They're dealing with a situation. We need to move. Now."

"I'm not going anywhere with you. I don't know who you are."
