Chapter 8: He Had Betrayed Her Long Ago

Eric Isaiah and Lennon Bauer immediately gave Vincent Clark a meaningful look, signaling him not to get involved.

Vincent Clark glanced at Eric Isaiah and Lennon Bauer, completely ignoring their hints. After handing the phone back to Eudora Cook, he continued, "Eudora, come with me!"

With that, he walked out of the dormitory alone.

Eudora Cook quickly asked Eric Isaiah and Lennon Bauer to watch over her suitcase. Picking up her handbag, she immediately followed Vincent Clark, leaving Eric Isaiah and Lennon Bauer looking at each other in confusion.

As Eudora Cook caught up with Vincent Clark, she noticed his heavy-hearted expression and couldn't help but ask, "Vincent, what's wrong?"

"Promise me, when you see Truman MacMillan, don't cry," Vincent Clark said solemnly as he continued walking.

In reality, this was between Truman MacMillan and Eudora Cook; why should he get involved? But...

Vincent Clark's brow furrowed at the thought.

Eudora Cook, thinking something serious had happened to Truman MacMillan, asked in a hoarse voice, "Is something wrong with Truman? Is he okay?"

"He's fine, and he's doing well," Vincent Clark replied coldly.

For the rest of the walk, no matter how much Eudora Cook questioned, Vincent Clark always evaded her with, "You'll know when we get there."

Eudora Cook had no choice but to keep quiet.

They went to the back gate of the school, where a wide road stretched outside, and across it were rows of five or six-story residential buildings and a food street.

Vincent Clark led Eudora Cook into an alley, and after turning a corner, they came to a stainless-steel gate. Young couples were coming and going through the gate.

Eudora Cook had a vague idea of what was happening, but she still couldn't bring herself to believe it.

Vincent Clark opened the stainless-steel gate and walked in. Eudora Cook lowered her head slightly and followed silently.

They went up to the third floor and stopped in front of a dark green security door. Vincent Clark took out a key from his pocket, opened the door, and went in. When Eudora Cook followed, she realized the apartment was three times larger than the small rental she shared with Phoebe Hamlet, with four bedrooms, a living room, balcony, dining room, and kitchen.

Vincent Clark walked straight to the leftmost door and knocked lightly.

Truman MacMillan's voice came from inside, "Who is it?"

"It's me!" Vincent Clark replied.

Truman MacMillan asked, "Didn't you say you were staying in the dorm tonight? Why are you back?"

"Come out, I need to talk to you," Vincent Clark said.

"Wait a moment, let me put on some clothes," Truman MacMillan responded.

Then, a woman's voice came from inside, "This man, really, he couldn't have picked a worse time."

"Darling, don't worry. Let me find out what he wants, and then I'll come back to you," Truman MacMillan cooed gently.

The voices from inside were not loud, but it was clear there was another woman besides Truman MacMillan.

Standing next to Vincent Clark, Eudora Cook heard everything clearly. There was another woman in the room with Truman MacMillan. It wasn't bedtime yet, so why did Truman MacMillan need to put on clothes before coming out?

Eudora Cook felt hurt in her heart, and tears welled up in her eyes.

When Truman MacMillan opened the door and saw Eudora Cook standing next to Vincent Clark, he was instantly stunned.

"Truman, what's the matter?" the woman's voice sounded again.

The next second, the woman appeared in front of Eudora Cook. She had long hair, red lips, and a light makeup, wearing Truman MacMillan's white shirt, exposing her fair, long legs.

"Oh, Vincent Clark. This bookworm man finally got a girlfriend!" The woman, after giving Eudora Cook a once-over, sneered with a slight smile.

Vincent Clark gave Laura Kennan a dismissive glance and was about to say something to Truman MacMillan, but Truman MacMillan cut him off first.

"She's my cousin! From the countryside!" Truman MacMillan smiled.

At that moment, Eudora Cook's heart ached so much that even her tears couldn't fall, and her lips trembled slightly.

"Yes, your cousin suddenly came to find you. So, I brought her here," Vincent Clark added coldly.

Truman MacMillan turned slightly and spoke softly to his girlfriend, Laura Kennan, "Laura, I'll take my cousin out for dinner and settle her in. She must be hungry after the long bus ride from the countryside."

"Okay, sure. I don't feel like going out, so I won't join you," Laura Kennan pouted, then turned to Eudora Cook with a smile, "Hello, little cousin. I'm your cousin's girlfriend, Laura Kennan."

"How... long have you two been together?" Eudora Cook's voice choked.

Laura Kennan blushed and, wrapping her arm around Truman MacMillan, replied, "Almost a year, right, Truman?"

"Let's not talk about that now. I need to take my cousin to eat," Truman MacMillan quickly changed the subject.

Laura Kennan nodded and released Truman MacMillan's hand.

Truman MacMillan stepped out of the room and closed the door, his face suddenly changing as he glared at Vincent Clark with anger.

Eudora Cook didn't say anything and turned to leave, even running without thinking.

Truman MacMillan hurried after her.
