CHAPTER 41: DAMIANI couldn't see anything with the bag on my head, but I felt myself being carried and tossed into the back of a van with my hands and legs tied behind my back. The men who kidnapped me were arguing uncontrollably about who gets the last drop of the alcohol they were drinking. My stomach churned as they cackled and continued to rant, their words slurring as they drove the van recklessly. To pass time, I tried to count the times when they had mentioned a familiar name, "Damian". I didn't know who that was, but from what they were saying, he was responsible for the coup to overthrow Dashiell."Five…" I muttered under my breath as they continued to talk. "Six…"Just then, the van came to a halt. I heard the doors open and slam shut, and for a moment, there was silence…until they opened the back door and carried me out. They walked for a few minutes, this time with their mouths shut. The man who was carrying me kicked a door open and dropped me on the cold, metal floor,

CHAPTER 43: THE REVELATION *Present day*ZAHRA'S POV Beads of sweat gathered around my forehead as I was now seated on a metal chair with ropes tied tightly around my waist. I felt the air in my lungs start to cease as one of the holster girls who Anthony referred to as Nara Joe, continued to pull the end of the rope with her knee on the back of the metal chair.Anthony laughed as he noticed my eyes start to widen, almost popping out of their sockets as my face turned purple with stress, "This is the best day of my life," he cackled, his tone laced with abject mockery. In my head, I had thoughts spiraling on one thing, whether whatever Dashiell had planned would work, else all these risks we took would be for nothing. "Your boyfriend has abandoned you, but Damian is willing to take you in, if you'd just agree to join him. You know, he's merciful, unlike his brother, who is also your boyfriend. I mean, I would have killed you on sight, sliced your body in half and keep one here in

CHAPTER 45: IRRESISTIBLE ZAHRA'S POV "You!" I spat, my voice laced with venom. He laughed cheesily, "I just came to say hi to you, what's with the hostility?" I scoffed, poking my index finger against his chest, "Back off," I snapped. He removed my hands from his chest and drew closer to me, my back hitting the underwear racks. "And what if I don't 'back off'," he mocked, closing the space between us. His lips moved to my neck, trailing it till he reached my jaw. "I have no intention of hurting you, Zahra. My brother-" "Deserves your respect," I completed what he was about to say and pushed him off me. "You will be sorry, Damian. I promise you," I seethed and walked away.As I rushed out of the lingerie section, I noticed a figure lying helplessly inside the dressing room, and I tip-toed toward it. I slowly reached for the curtain and moved it aside to find Blazer lying on the floor with blood trickling out of his mouth. I dropped the lingerie I held in my hand and bent to his l

CHAPTER 47: BETRAYAL AT ITS FINESTZAHRA'S POVMy eyes scanned the frail, curly blonde-haired boy who stood near Simone. He bore a certain resemblance to Anthony and Adela with the blue eyes and deep dimples. "Come, let me see you," Dashiell ordered, and the boy stepped forward. I noticed how he was fourteen and yet a bit tall for his age, as he was taller than I am. The last time I checked my height, I think I was 5ft 6 inches tall. With the way he towered over me, he could be at least 5 ft 8 inches."What is your name?" Dashiell asked. The boy stood still with his chest forward and chin up as he replied, "Arvall, sir," Arvall. What an odd name."So, Arvall, what did Simone and Nara Joe tell you? How did they approach you? Where did they approach you? And what was your response when they told you about their mission?" Arvall's lips formed into a thin line, "They came to me with an offer to go against Damian and stay under the protection of the current Godfather. I was appalled at

CHAPTERS 49: FAMILY 'AFFAIR'ZAHRA'S POV The next morning, I stirred awake, stretching my arms as the morning light filtered in through the large window in Dashiell's room. I slowly disentangled myself from his grasp, moving toward the bedside table to take my phone."10:14 am," I whispered, looking back as I heard Dashiell start to wake up."Morning," I greeted, shuffling around the room, looking for my flip-flops.He propped himself up, his head resting on his hand as he watched me, "Morning, baby." he answered, a smirk on his face.I rushed into the bathroom to take a shower, slipping my clothes off as the events of last night came rushing into my head. Well, not the near death experience, but, mostly the part where Dashiell asked me to be his girlfriend. And, now, he's calling me babe. Fantastic.I heard him knock on the door, "I'll use the bathroom in your room. Hurry up, we don't want to be late for the Sizzler's engagement event," I smiled, washing the soap off my face, "O
