It was pouring rain when I drove past the supermarket and saw my pregnant neighbor across the street struggling to carry her shopping bags while waiting for the bus with a wobbly umbrella. The wind and rain were relentless, and she was soaked.I pulled over and offered her a ride, dropping her off on my way home.Afterward, she got my contact information and said she wanted to send some money as a thank you. I declined; it was just a small favor, after all."Cindy, you're such a kind-hearted girl. Young people lack compassion nowadays, but meeting you is such a blessing!"Her compliment made me feel a little giddy. When I got home and told my friend about it, she warned me, "Cindy Waters, you better watch out. If something happens along the way, she might hold you responsible!""Really? She seemed pretty decent to me.""Decent? You don't get it. What if she claimed she got sick because your driving was bumpy? You're so generous."To emphasize the point, my friend sent me a few

The two of them still tried to argue."We're neighbors; what's wrong with asking for help? It's not like we don't have a car. This young girl is just being petty!"She even had the audacity to complain about me! I had never met anyone so shameless.Even the police could not take it anymore. "Enough! Stop twisting things around. If you keep this up, we'll charge you with provoking trouble. Don't think that being pregnant exempts you from detention. If this young woman decides to press charges after you give birth, you can still end up in jail."After they heard that legal explanation, they panicked. When they realized they would have to apologize to me, the pregnant neighbor did so reluctantly.I took advantage of the situation and glanced at their names—Peter Jeffords and Lisa Diaz. Knowing their names would come in handy later. With the police backing me up, they both got a thorough scolding. When Lisa walked out, she shot me a glare."Cindy, you've gone too far!"My friend sa

Peter's face contorted in rage, and he looked ready to lash out, but the police stopped him. "That's enough. Stop with the pity act. You have two choices—pay up or face charges. Who instigated this?"There's no way a pregnant woman would keep putting herself in harm's way. As her partner, you share the responsibility."Peter roared in frustration. "We don't have the money! All I've got is my life. Just put a pregnant woman in jail, then!"The police were not about to indulge him. They issued a fine and placed them under bail pending trial. That fine was more than just 700 dollars. When Peter saw the total, he froze in disbelief. Lisa began crying and pleading, though they had no choice but to pay up.The police gave them a stern lecture before leaving. Then, the couple left with faces as dark as thunderclouds.By the time I returned home, changed the lock, and cleaned up, it was already past midnight. I could not just bear that anger. However, the thought of constantly having t

The reporter froze, and when they realized the crowd had grown, Peter and Lisa started to panic."You're all in this together!" Peter yelled.I sneered, "Even with evidence shoved in your face, you still won't admit it? Fine, let's see how you'll explain yourself to the police!"Peter raised his hand, ready to lash out, but just then, the police arrived. After hearing the situation, the officers brought us all to the station. Lisa, clutching her belly, began shouting."You can't treat a pregnant woman like this! This is outrageous, and you're doing it on camera!"I laughed coldly. "Since when does being pregnant put you above the law?"Then, I turned to the reporter. "And as for you, which company are you from? I'll hold you accountable as well."I've recorded everything today. Get ready. I won't settle this quietly!"Camilla Diaz, right? Let's see how you fare!"My outburst startled Lisa so much that she forgot to keep up her act.I presented all my evidence at the station,

Sensing trouble, Camilla tried to flee, but I grabbed her firmly."I warned you last time, yet you dared to come back. I won't let you off this time!"She immediately panicked, and the nearby elderly women quickly stepped in, holding her down and surrounding her.Camilla grew visibly frightened while Lisa was rushed to the hospital. At seven months pregnant, Lisa delivered prematurely. Her baby was sent to the incubator, but she could not afford the expenses. The apartment she lived in was only a rental, and her plan to leverage the situation for internet fame had utterly backfired. My decisive evidence and videos shattered their schemes.Camilla was arrested for threatening me and conspiring with Lisa to extort money. At the police station, she tearfully confessed that the two sisters had plotted everything.
