Aria sat at the breakfast table, her gaze fixed on the dark coffee swirling in her cup—it reminded her of the prisoner’s eyes. He had looked straight at her, unflinching, until the soldiers dragged him away. The intensity of that stare still lingered, unsettling her. Chapter 3: A Cry for Help

Aria couldn’t recall how she made her way back to her chambers. She slowly sank onto the edge of her bed, her thoughts a whirlwind of fear and uncertainty about what her sister might be enduring. She struggled to pull herself together, but the weight of the situation lingered. At least her sister was still alive. Was that a selfish thought to have?Aria clenched her fists. Aria and Adrian walked through the long dark tunnel that led to the caves where the different prisoners were chained. The new prisoner got a small cave of his own. As they neared she could hear the clinging of metal chains which meant that he was trying to break them. He stopped when they stepped inside and they caught sight of him. He was bare chested in the cold cave but Aria knew the cold didn't affect werewolves.The prisoner remained still, his dark eyes turning to the entrance and glaring at them with resentment. Aria had always tried to avoid being near these creatures. She always watched them from a far distance but now she was closer than she had ever been except for that one time. Chapter 5: Echoes of the Past

Aria spent the rest of her day going between the laboratory and inventory. She didn't eat or take a break and her uncle who usually nagged her about it was on a trip. Adrian let her bury herself in work, knowing she was in too much pain to have free time that would allow her to think of other things, like where her sister was.Aria focused on developing her father's inventions further. Most of them needed precision and lots of practice. Aria wanted to make the use easier so more soldiers could use it. She had already developed an easier use of the clamp. Aria decided to ignore the prisoner for a week before talking to him again even if that meant waiting to find her sister. There was no other way. In the numbness of pain, Marcus sensed a female scent. The sweet scent of daisies woke him up from his drugged state. The vile human king had left him chained to the wall, hanging by his arms. His legs could barely hold him up. He was losing a lot of blood from having been shot with obsidian bullets.
